How much has your total cost been and how hard is ground school? Any tips, thanks.
@LRobichauxIV2 жыл бұрын
@@fireworksguy666 I chose the online King Schools ground school. Was not "hard," but it's important not to allow yourself to be intimidated by all the new material you've never seen / heard before. You'll pick it up - it's just new and a good amount of memorization. Just keep going over it. I probably watched half of the material more than one time. I'm sure there are many ways to approach learning to fly, but here is what worked for me: (1) before you do anything, see an FAA certified doc to ensure you can get your medical (you don't want to spend a bunch of time and money only to find out you cannot clear your medical), (2) get ALL ground school completed before you take first flying lesson, and (3) watch copious amounts of high-quality KZbin videos on flying instruction, particularly on ATC communication. For instance, it helped me just watching Stevie do her cross country trips with VFR following communicating hand-offs from one ATC to another to another. There are TONS of aviation KZbinrs out there that are pretty good. As far as cost goes, my experience is not typical so you shouldn't use my experience as representative. I chose to do all my training in a Cirrus SR-20 G6 at a Cirrus Platinum Training Center because I want to buy a SR-22 when I'm done with instrument certification. There are really good schools out there that use standard training aircraft who have gotten the costs down to a pretty reasonable level.

Stevie actually arrived here in late October 2021, and had prearranged a hangar at KCMA prior to her arrival. During the second leg, she can be heard in the video saying that if any pilots in the area recall her call sign "...remember the date of October, this is me in the Bonanza." So she's been in So Cal for a bit, likely getting settled in and working. At the very end of this third video, you can see that the trip took three days, covered 1,846 miles, required 5-fuel stops and used 200-gallons of 100-LL. She also mentions that the actual flying time was a bit over 16-hours, so I'm guessing it simply took awhile to edit the video then post it. Belated welcome to the West Coast, Stevie, and yes, the Waypoint closes at 1600 local, but the food and vibe are awesome. Enjoy...

Back in around 2006 my dad and I were in an amateur rocketry club. We launched high powered rockets, some people's rockets could even reach the edge of space! Usually these events were held on very large farms with enough airspace and land. At one of these events there was a runway on the farm and a beautiful yellow canvassed Piper Cub landed and the pilot offered to take me up in it for a short ride. It was incredible. First time I've ever been on an airplane and I got to sit in a seat forward of the pilot. Glad I found this channel, it's pretty great.

She's monitoring a radio while transmitting on another. Antenna coax running together and antennas near each other on the top of the aircraft without radio interlock is what's causing this.
@vk2ig2 жыл бұрын
@@astral9872 Certainly that's causing the distortion on the audio when Stevie is transmitting. However; the static that @John Cline talks about is quite evident in all three videos whenever she is listening to distant stations and not transmitting at all, which suggests either ignition noise through faulty grounding of the ignition system, or deterioration in the coax shield or radio ground.

You will have a great time there exploring all the airports there and other venues. As a resident of southern California for 75 years, El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Westchester, Van Nuys, I have always been around airports. I have always been a aircraft fanatic since I could hold a toy airplane in my hand. My father was a pilot in the late thirties until 1945, when I was born. He was a mechanic in Bangalore, India during WWII, keeping P-39 Aircorba's in the air. He flew various general aviation aircraft whenever he had the chance on his off days. I still have his log books for reference. My plan is to build RC models of all the planes he has flown. I have a good start, with plans, lots, etc. A couple are the Rose Parakeet he flew out of Mines Field (LAX) Taylorcraft, and my favorite is the Luscombe 8A. One of his instructors at Burbank Airport was Anthony (Tony) Lavier. Lots of history I can go on and on. I never flew with my father but I did with one of his work friends at Northrop at 10 years old couldn't reach the rudder pedals but was able to fly the plane for about ten minutes ale and elev controls, fun times. Have fun with your Bonanza and now your Cessna 140A. John

It looks really overwhelming just watching the video: flying the aircraft, keeping track of the instruments, navigating the route, communicating with ATC, and also talking to the camera...... can't believe human beings can do so much things simultaneously....

Keep in mind she edited out many hours of silence, and she only talks to the camera when nothing else needs her attention.

Thank You! A great digest on your travel and this post was my favorite. I sensed ( to my little brain) what small plane pilots experience and feel elated that it is: that serious and that rewarding.

I could’ve driven from Michigan to CA faster, but it’s all about the journey! 09:25 Great toss!

Exactly! I could have done the flight in a day and a half but wanted to take my time and explore a little. Definitely an adventure!

Thank you for posting the final chapter of your trip. I appreciate that it’s hard to keep the motivation up for the effort involved in video editing projects as time goes on after a flight - but - YOU DID IT- yay!

This was awesome. I just stumbled onto her videos on the I’m moving to Ca and I’m flying myself there. The jargon between her and flight control boggles my mind and her knowledge of her plane blows me away. You go girl! Peace from San Diego!

"bout time!! LOL Thanks for the update. Gearing up to finally get my ticket this year, I am an A&P and never got around to formally logging hours on all my maintenance test flights but you have motivated me to get it done so I can enjoy the other side of aviation. You and your vid's are an inspiration for real!! Fellow Michigander also, GO BLUE!!!

Grew up flying out of KCMA with family, be sure to check out their commemorative air force. Sometimes they will have their planes sitting out on the runway and getting the chance to speak with the techs/pilots is awesome. Gets you behind the scenes to what would otherwise be behind a rope at an airshow! Enjoy the beautiful weather there
