@@jameswest6161 in my earlier years. I had a AT45 touch down, still in the touch down zone and a Citation business jet join final closer than I instructed him to. He came in over the app lights while the AT45 literally just touched. I had to make the jet go arround to rejoin final. He was over the AT when he turned. I nearly pissed myself 😅😅

I might have mentioned this to you before but really appreciate your use of the checklist and overall attitude and flying techniques. I have owned 3 Bonanzas and a Baron since 1983 and been a CFI-I for 29 years and you are a great inspiration for other young ladies as well as others. I taught my son to fly beginning at age 15 and instrument rating in our S35. He spent 22 years in the USAF and flew all three fighters and is with UAL as a 777 instructor. I also taught a 22 year old young lady Instrument, Commercial, and CFI and she now flys the Airbus for Frontier. What I mean by all this is that I hope you continue to excel in GA and inspire others. This can be life changing for others. Keep it up.

I want to thank you for letting us follow your passion for flight. I'm 58 yrs old and getting ready for retirement. My wife and I were on the lookout for a new truck and a 5th-wheel trailer. That all changed when I saw your videos. Needless to say, you gave an old man searching for youth admirations. I got the bug and did the research. Now I'm a 58 yrs old student pilot. I am already looking for a Mooney or a Beechcraft. Just so you know new truck and 5th-wheel for what we were looking for is around $130,000.00 not to include the $40.00 to $80.00 per night at a campsite. plus time setting it up. After talking to our pilot for work who also is a DPE has bought 6 planes in the last 20 years and might have lost a total of $5,000.00 Way better return than 5 yrs and an old trailer to trade in. So if any old people are watching this go for the plane. At the night's end, there are no bugs in a double-tree hotel. Thank you Stevie for your inspiration with a new dream of not being put out to pasture. I will keep you updated on my progress. Keep doing what makes you happy.

Are you a pilot? This kind of trip is pretty straight forward for a qualified pilot. She seems pretty comfortable flying so has probably got a fair amount of flying experience, old plane too so none of the advanced avionics you get on modern planes.

My wife and I did a similar trip when we were your age back in the 80’s. We did it in a 1947 Luscombe with a hand-held radio. It was pretty cool taking off with sleeping bags, a tent and toothbrushes and not much else. All our other stuff was going by truck. Departure was Waterville Nova Scotia to Vancouver British Columbia. I still have the plane and did a few trips since then, but they pale in comparison to that trip.

I have to admit, I got a little emotional watching this. When I was 21 (many, MANY years ago :-) ), I was going to do what you are doing. I was going to move from Texas to Florida. I was going to going to fly my C150 halfway across the country and just get a fresh start! Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out the way I was hoping and life took me in another direction but I am so glad that you actually ARE getting to do this. It is quite an accomplishment and it sounds like you have so much support from your family and friends and this just makes me very happy! I wish you safe travels and many, many more adventures!

Hi Chris, I guess she makes a lot of us live the moment we could not have at that age. Me I lost my family at age of 9 years so I had a rough childhood, and since I remember I would dream about being some kind of computer wizard that I could afford a plane and fly anywhere I wanted to. Now 46 years old and working as QA Software tester engineer I could afford a plane but I feel kind of old to try and buy one, so I enjoy flying with Stevie.

I'm a retired from both the Air Force (20 Years) and FAA/DOD (20 Years) controller. For 40 years I always looked forward to going to work. It's refreshing to hear good VFR radio etiquette young lady and especially seeing excellent checklist use. 40 years as a controller will do that to ya: CHECKLIST, CHECKLIST, CHECKLIST; it'll save your life. Your flight instructor taught you well. My favirote GA airplanes are the BE-35 & BE-55. I spent a good amount of time back in the late 60's/early 70's in a BE-55 in the Kansas City/St. Louis/Branson, Misouri area and miss it very much. Something to keep in mind: Not far from K52 across the Illinois line SE of Hannibal, Mo. is PPQ (Pittsfield/Penstone) airport that back in the day sold us a lot of gas and fed us alot of breakfast's too. Or loaned us a car to drive into town for eats. I'm betting they still do. I truly enjoyed the 1st leg of your Mi. to Ca. trip. You made an old guy happy today Miss Stevie. Many thanks. A dear friend's son is a controller at SoCal approach who also uses "Adios" after a freq change: Listen out for him. Looking forward to leg's 2 & 3 enroute to Ca. SO many bad weather situations (sometimes with fatalities) would be prevented if pilots were better about doing that.

When I was a kid, my neighbor had a Bonanza -- took me flying on a number of clear and sunny Saturdays. Brings back memories to "fly" in your Bonanza. I had no idea how complicated it was with the 3 fuel tanks.

Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the flight! The fuel system is certainly unique and requires lots of planning and oversight. Some Bonanzas have even more complicated systems than mine, with auxiliary wing tanks and tip tanks. To make matters more complicated, you can only view the fuel quantity of one tank at a time in my airplane - there's only one fuel gauge and you have to toggle which tank is shown. The majority of Bonanza engine failures are due to fuel starvation (that's the statistic they gave us in the ABS training, at least) so paying attention to where your fuel is is key. I'm looking forward to getting an engine monitor soon that will show me the fuel quantity in all three tanks at once!

I just sold my 1954 E35. N3495B. I loved having the 3 tanks. I usually used two tanks. I set my GPS to remind me to switch tanks every 30 minutes. They all pump to the left tank. So I should be empty on the other two before the left tank. I never liked it where you draw from both and when you're out, you're out. Now it's a crisis. If I'm out I should still have 30 minutes to find a place to put it down. Fuel management. The easy part. My first instructor was very big on fuel management. He had a very bad life-changing experience.

I started flying around the age of 17. One of the best things I ever did. Unfortunately I never went back to it after starting a business 30 years ago. Watching your video brought back a lot of great memories. You did a great job for this being your first solo cross country flight and did a fantastic job with video. Not sure about the US but in europe aircraft radio speech is very standardised, you know the standardised phrases for what you need to communicate and you just say it. It's not like you're trying to think up what to say on the fly.

From a retired 27-year Baron pilot it was a sheer joy watching part 1 of your cross country adventure. Looking forward to Part 2. Nice job flying the aircraft, professional in every respect. Regardless of the age, Beechcraft airplanes are virtually indestructable as long as they are well maintained and flown safely. Looks like you have what it takes in both departments. BTW, the shoulder harness mod was a wise investment! Double and triple checking the door latch is always smart in a Beech, and even then it doesn't mean the door won't pop open right at lift off. Been there, done that (IFR even!). Don't know about the Bonanza, but those hot starts on a Baron were always a moment of anxiety due to vapor lock, especially on hot days here in the southeast. Hope you enjoy your life in aviation as much as I did seeing the country from the left front seat. Fly safe!

Kudos to you for giving props to Stevie for her methodology. Doing things the same way [correctly] every time has saved many from busting their butts! I had a V35B for many, many years and am so impressed with Stevie's flights/procedures I could burst! The only twin I was privy to before life kicked my butt and I shelved my medical was a baby Baron. I have nothing to compare it to, but it was a magnificent airplane. BTW, Bos also suffer from the hot start syndrome. Many events of cycling the boost pump/pulling the mix to idle to get the engine start. IO-520 in my Bo.

@@ScammerStopper Sorry but flying a small high performance single engine piston is not safer than driving. It's not overly dangerous but it's not without danger. Someone told me years ago flying a single was about as dangerous as riding a motorcycle and that seems to be about right.

Very impressive young lady. Just graduated from UM (Go Blue!) with engineering degree, pilot that is flying solo across country, great personality. Her parents did a great job. I showed my son this video and told him that if he ever meets someone like this, get a ring on her finger asap.

Makes me think of how important it is to make the right choices when you're young. Should have stayed in a music curriculum in college as that's where my strengths and accolades were in HS, but I was worried about not getting a job in that field. Should have asked the girl out that I was smitten by from the first moment I saw her. I wish I had the 'push' from my parents that some other kids had. It might have given me the confidence to go with music or feel prodded enough to ask that girl out. The reason I say this is because I feel my journey from that point on became too much about my own confusion and 'subjectivity.' Parents got divorced literally right after i graduated HS also. Choose the right path and you don't have to worry about all the peripheral things. Watching this video just reminded me of how much we control our own destiny when we make the right choices. Anyhow. Your comment just rally tapped into my own parallel thoughts :)

For GA plane a bonanza would be considered a complex airplane. A lot more going on then a Cessna 150.

Hi Stevie, I'm so glad to see you doing your thing in your own airplane. I learned to fly in 1964, and got my ticket in August. Three of us bought a Boeing Stearman, and in '66 I bought a 1948 35 Bonanza in New Jersey, and took an airliner there. I had zero time in retract and controllable prop. (Electric). I spent 3 or 4 days, doing takeoffs and landings, because of a stationary front, keeping me from any travel. I found the Bonanza very easy to fly, and loved mine as much as you love yours. Such a great airplane, as long as you don't fall asleep at the controls. I enjoyed mine for twenty years, and sold it for a down payment for a house for the new bride ! (Should have kept the Bonanza). I'm too old to fly now(going on 85) but loved my Stearman and Beech, which I put many hours on both ! Hi Bob, I'm glad you enjoyed the flight! I also had zero complex time when I bought my Bonanza and I spent a few days doing laps in the pattern learning to fly it as well. Nothing flies quite like an old E-series Bo! Mine is a 1952 and also has the electric prop. Very cool that you had a Stearman alongside the Bonanza, those are beautiful airplanes. @@HK45Mark23 yeah, me and my dad are trying to get me into a flight school near my home airport, but because of the new laws my state government has created, i need my birth certificate and some special permit just to get inside the plane. and to get this “special permit” i need to make an appointment to go get one which my parents don’t feel like doing. so we're waiting until January (not too long away!) and if we still need to make an appointment then we'll just make one for that permit

I think this is amazing. As a specialist, I often work with people who live with anxiety and depression. I watched this video and thought about our fears of flying (so to speak.) And for the most part; it's not the fear of flying, it's the fear of falling - or in my career, it's a fear of failing. I thought about people who limit themselves due to their intimidations of learning new things. And here I am now; I am in awe of this young woman and in fact, I am going to use this inspiration to help others who do not believe they have the ability to help themselves. Long trips in the airplane are great. Many years ago I took a Piper Archer from Aretz Airport in Lafayette, IN to Key West International. A great flight! I learned to fly at Aretz, now closed, but it was one of the small, untowered airports you talk about. They lived and breathed aviation there. I was so blessed to start out with a great group of people.

I loved this video. I just found it by luck. I have been fascinated by flying my entire life. When I was in college my brother learned to fly and I loved every second of flying with him. But the last thing that I need right now is another expensive hobby so thanks a lot for prompting this temptation. I think that may be overexaggerating a bit. ATC is definitely in control and they serve a vital function in aviation. If every pilot did whatever they wanted to do, when they wanted to, we'd have chaos in the skies and way more aviation related mishaps. IF ATC tells you to do something, they're telling you for a reason. They'll do their best to accommodate you, but they are most definitely the ones in control.

@@Hayden-ju3wk Spot on. It an ATC instruction is beyond the scope of ability or common sense, the PIC is absolutely empowered to refuse the instruction in favor of one he/she can comply with safely. Most of the ATC folk are reasonable with that, but don't be bullied into an instruction you are uncomfortable with. The PIC has the last word in what is safe for his travels, right or wrong [as far as ATC is concerned]. I'd think the only caveat in that would be if by refusing an instruction, the pilot puts his airplane in the path of another. But, that goes back to common sense, so...

Especially working remote, winter is extremely boring and draining. Would love to move somewhere else but my whole life is here. Be grateful you have friends in a sunny state!

These are really enjoyable and relaxing vid's to watch: there's stuff going on, but the scenery out the windows is cool, the stuff in cabin is encompassing enough to be almost in the plane. The plane is cool - I hadn't realised that these were designed in 1947, just after WW2 - they still look so good! Please if you've time to edit it together (and have the footage), might we see the rest of the trip? Thanks for the work putting it together. :)
