lol the world doesn't end when the caps melt friend. They have melted before. Where I live has been a tropical rainforest then was under a sheet of ice now is going back to the tropical costal rain forest and the natural cycle continues

It's old. One of my favorites. From the time when I was a kid. Watched it with my dad and mom time several times.

If only they made movies at the end of the seventies like they did in the early sixties, with Panavision, CinemaScope, Colour by Deluxe, etc. This movie with its magnificent Arctic landscape would have been amazing. As it is, everything is dark, sound quality is poor, and the images are low definition. A shame.

According to IMDB, Sir Don Sharp's troubled adaptation of Alstair MacLean's "Bear Island" with honorary Oscar winner Donald Sutherland, Academy Award winner Dame Vanessa Redgrave and Oscar nominee Richard Widmark along with Sir Christopher Lee, Barbara Parkins and Lloyd Bridges. It was a co-production of Taft International Pictures/Keith Barish Enterprises in association with HBO Pictures and Bel-Air Entertainment from Selkirk Films & CFDC and distributed by Columbia Pictures in the USA, Canada and other countries on Friday, January 23, 1981 in its excellent full widescreen format-2.35:1 while Paramount/Trifecta owned most of the TV syndication rights when it was aired on Lifetime in Spring 1986 but Lionsgate has owned the home entertainment rights of "Bear Island" on video in August 20, 1991 and laserdisc in March 25, 1996. Poor picture quality also. Reminded me of John Carpenter's The Thing, but in this case, gold was the monster.

@@fuzzfacelogic789 It seems like a lot of the movies these days are so dark. I thought it was interesting to note that old movies were shot in the day and then they turned them into night scenes by lowering the exposure while editing. Pretty neat trick.

How many perfect people can be bred from say; 1934 to 1945? And their children’s children etc???. Children don’t ask to be “perfect” ???

The biggest effort of this movie is not to show what is happening.

They almost always are, they usually can only manage a basic summary of the novel.

The best a movie can hope for, is never better, but only roughly equivalent to the book - and that’s so rare. I can only think of one, off the top of my head. Are there any movies you think live up to the book?
