In the wild, bearded dragons would attack each other for mating and other stuff, but still, they often go for the tail (as seen in the video) and they rarely fight until death. Wow…if this were two dogs being forced to fight I’m pretty sure it would have been flagged as animal abuse and yanked off of KZbin immediately. The fact that this gets a pass because “they’re just lizards” is sickening. As a beardie owner I can’t fathom putting my animals through this level of stress and risking fatal injury. A friend happens to be a herp (reptile) vet and it never fails to disturb me when she talks about treating lizards maimed by each other because some a-hole thought it would be funny to throw two highly solitary, highly territorial animals together in a tank and let them attack each other until-whoopsie!-the tank is doused in blood and one of the animals has been injured to the point where its mobility will be severely damaged…if it manages to survive. Just because your pet isn’t fluffy doesn’t mean it isn’t deserving of the same respect and kindness you show a dog or a cat. Yes, bearded dragons live in a harsh desert backdrop where males that encounter each other can do serious damage, particularly during breeding season. But the argument that “they fight in the wild” and therefore it’s okay to force them into a dangerous scenario under your watch for your own amusement is a jarring reminder that any jerk with cash can be a pet owner-no proof of humanity required. As a pet owner you’re supposed to create a life for these animals that’s LESS stressful than the wild: an environment where they get the best nutrition and veterinary care, have ample space to climb and bask, receive daily enrichment, and most of all love. Creating lizard Thunderdome isn’t love. You’re supposed to be their protector but someone needs to intervene and protect these animals from you. Even if these lizards escape a fight without serious injury their stress levels are through the roof. It’s only a matter of time until one of your forced beardie fights results in an injury the lizard can’t come back from. Animal abuse (and make no mistake that purposely putting your pets in danger is animal abuse no matter what species is involved) is often one of the earlier signs of psychopathy, and filming it for entertainment is a special brand of sick. I hope you become the inadvertent sequel to Don’t F-k With Cats so that any future boss or date (though something tells me you’ve been single since you were a zygote) can google you and discover that your name is synonymous with animal abuse.
