Lost 70 lbs on low carb three yrs ago. I'm still low carb, and I will always be low carb, forever. I've kept it off, and I'm not going back to being obese. You have to change your lifestyle and way of eating forever, not just go on a "diet". Godspeed on your journeys.

Welp, I had lost 30 pounds in the first 8 months of 2022, and then I gained 25 of them back over the delicious holiday season. You might say I “Fell Off the Wagon,” but in truth I fell off the wagon, bounced into a few boulders, rolled over a couple of cacti, and ended up in a tangle of tumbleweeds. But don’t worry, I’m up, dusted off, and running after that wagon!

Our stories are very similar. I started keto in January of 2021 and in 8 months lost 25 pounds. Went off keto for 16 months (thru December 2022) and gained back 15 pounds. Back on the wagon again. May God bless both our efforts to be healthy and slim!

@Thundercat I have been keto/carnivore since 2/24/2022. Over those holidays I lost 1 pound. I did not eat anything that was not keto/carnivore even though my family and friends emphatically promised me It was “okay” and you have lost “so much, you’ve got this!” I have never regretted not listening to them. Some of them were downright irate that I wouldn’t enjoy their foods with them. You will succeed, I promise! It took me years to understand I can’t even take “a little taste” I read every label every time and rarely do I use any “keto friendly” foods. I wish you well on your keto journey. You’ve got this

Three months on keto I lost 30 lbs. now at my goal weight. Love keto. Being in O.A., I haven't touched sugar or processed foods in twenty years so keto was a bonus. I munch whatever I like as long as it's carb free or very, very low carb. Just keep your CARBOHYDRATE COUNTER book on your desktop, if you have doubts. I eat big salads with shrimp, nuts and lots of green veggies, mayo, organic oils; eggs with spinach, salmon with creamy coleslaw, etc., etc. Treat: a small square of dark, sugar free chocolate. Put it in coffee with heavy cream for a mocha flavor. Also have one low-carb Enlightenment KETO ice cream bar once a day for a treat, with coffee: I consider it a "meal." Basically, eat 1-2 meals a day. Here's the real deal about keto: you don't feel hungry. The more fat, the less hunge. I also do intermittent fasting this way: I just don't eat when I'm not hungry. I wait for a long time between meals, and rarely eat breakfast any more. As Dr. Gillaspy says: just keep pushing up meal times. Sometimes I don't eat until 3-4 pm, then have one nice sized meal. A few hours later, a keto chocolate bar with decaf coffee before bed and never feel hungry for a minute. Keto is heaven for anyone who has struggled with weight for years. Also: keto seems to have balanced me out emotionally. I feel more energetic, have fun exercising (not in a huge way, but do some Pilates and aerobics at home with YT videos, because I work at home.

@SpunkyHomeSchoolBlog
@SpunkyHomeSchoolBlog 2 жыл бұрын
I bought the Auvon blood glucose monitoring system from Amazon. It has a digital monitor and strips that absorb the sample and produces a read in seconds. I would love a continuous monitor but they are pricey. I use this to take a glucose read in the morning before breaking my fast to make sure I have a blood sugar level under 100. I also used it to see how certain foods that are labeled low glycemic and high glycemic affect me. That was more for my benefit. I also take my glucose read about 2 hours after eating and see if it is below 140. Doing this for 6 weeks gave me incredible info on how different foods and eating times affected me. I had a high triglyceride reading and my doctor believed I was definitely moving toward insulin resistance and I to trouble areas because of the weight gain and belly bloat. She was right. I monitored glucose and introduced intermittent fasting and my weight stabilized.

It seems insidious to just allow such a significant change just spring up on us! 8:25: Agreed! Time restricted eating and low carb is a permanent part of my lifestyle😊

I started Becky’s program 10 months ago and have lost 15 lbs and kept it off without “pain”. I did drop the 2 cups of vegetables because it did not work for me and eventually morphed into a low cal “almost” keto diet. I really love keto coffee and was drinking it daily until my cholesterol went way up. Time restricted fasting is actually pretty easy. It is not hard at all to do 16 hours a day; I have gone as far as 20 some days with no hunger pains. But for me to make this a life long habit, I had to allow for infrequent cheating. Like when I made some Christmas cookies for neighbors and coworkers. Or the infrequent dinner at a nice restaurant when I will have some bread and/or a dessert. But I’m back on the wagon the next day and never do this at home. That’s how it works for me because when I followed strict rules in the past with no allowance for an occasional “cheat”, I just finally gave in and gained the weight back.

I lost 105lbs and counting. This is my suggestion... 1) 1g protein per lbs for my goal weight 2) high saturated fat like avocado, coconut and olive oils. Also butter when I get cravings. 3) intermittent fasting i started with 16/8 but my comfort zone is now 20/4. 4) minimum 5k steps approx 2 miles 3 or 4 times a week. 5) most important... no sugar! 20g or less carbs in only 1 meal if at all. If you plateau I suggest learning about "fat fasting". Good luck everyone. Tip: stay away from highly processed foods and pay close attention to what's in the "keto" trendy foods. I'm full blown carnivore but I'm aware some ppl don't want to live this way so figure out what best suits you and you can stick to easily.

That's amazing congrats. I have tried eating OMAD and when I was eating carbs and working out I was hungry 24/7 no mater how much I eat. On Keto (with less than 15 grams of carbs per day) I'm not hungry I just can't lose any weight. So between Keto, fasting, and working out I couldn't lose a pound for 4 years. I don't eat anything processed and I'm about 15 net carbs per day. Is it possible that low carb, OMAD/fasting or Keto just doesn't work for some of us? In addition I was doing resistance training and cardio five times a week plus in the last three months I added a four mile daily walk and I couldn't lose anything. In fact I think I have gained some inches. Needless to say I have quit working out after many many years... I even had my doctor test me to see if there is anything wrong. My blood test came back great and he says everything is good. I think I am probably eating too much when I do eat. At the end of the day calories are still important. I am at a loss at this point. Thank you.
@devintompkins9626
@devintompkins9626 Жыл бұрын
@@EEEBA1 carbs are my problem and it retains water easily. Have you tried going zero carbs zero sugar? Ear only protein from animal foods? How is your saturated far intake? I have about 70% of my diet is from fats 25% animal protein and 5% other... I try to keep the other close to zero. Have you looked into fat fasting? I do 48h fasts at least 4 times a month because It's easy and ii feel great during and after. Try changing your feeding times so it's not consistent. Aside from all this it sounds like you may be snacking which causes insulin spike thus fat storing. Have you considered taking hot baths or cold showers? Both cause a slight irregularities and your heart works slightly more to pump blood in turn forces more calories to be used.

Low carb (on most day) helped me lose 38 pounds. Started 9/2021, 62 yrs old, weight goal reached by Feb 2022. Knees felt "new", energy level most days higher and gassy stomach issues, almost gone. Xmas was my biggest cheat but I do pretty well replacing crackers/candy with nuts and fruit. I can eat fruit but I know some can't. It's my dessert most days. Thank you Dr Becky for "clicking" with me and explaining everything so well. I also ran marathon in 40s and although thin, not "running thin" so some would look twice. Please address the idea that time restricting feeding (or IF) can lead to lowered metabolism or fat storage from “starvation mode.” I am not talking about prolonged fasting like 36, 48, 72 hours etc. I’m taking about 16/8 or 18/6 lifestyle Is it true that doing 16/8 of 18/6 or other combos will cause one’s metabolism to drop due to the inherent caloric reduction that comes with IF?

I have a question: I have been working on going processed sugar free and so far have been doing well with that. I know that most gluten type flours break down into glucose in the intestine so have been working on being careful with eating gluten products. However, I buy wheat berries and mill my own flour to make bread with honey as the sweetener. I typically have one piece of this bread with an egg or two for breakfast. How ‘bad’ is this type of flour? In my mind it is much healthier because the whole wheat berry is utilized.

This winter I try to maintain the weight that makes me feel good, which also gives me the energy and strength, I need at the gym. I don't eat any processed foods or sugar. I've learned that if I want to drop weight, I just reduce protein intake and increase my fat. I never actually get hungry anymore. I can eat twice a day with no problems. I quit eating after 4 PM and won't eat my first meal until 7 AM. I don't have to count calories anymore. My videos shows my physique now at 69. Strength is the key to not get elderly.

Loosing weight is simple but not easy. I lost forty pounds by eating a diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and meat twice a week. If God made it, I eat it. If He didn’t I occasionally eat it, but very rarely. Intermittent fasting as a lifestyle has been very helpful as well. Sent a goal to eat well, not loose weight. If you focus on a healthy diet, the weight loss will be a “side effect” of taking good care of yourself.

Does the LMNT taste salty? I don't want to drink a salty drink. You said it's delicious, but I am not fond of salty drinks. I also do not drink sugary drinks at all. I like plain drinks without sugar as well.

Calories in/out isn't really effective; because the body's metabolism adjusts. Losing weight is more about increasing metabolism, and hormones. Insulin is a hormone.

The magic time for regular fasting is 72 hours. Do that twice a month. The rest of the time do OMAD 20/4. And cut out all seed oils, sugars, carbs and processed foods.

@@jodysanchez5163 Hello Jody. I drink water with a pinch of natural salt (lake salt, sea salt, Himalayan pink salt). Also, you can have black tea or black coffee. And you can also put pure butter in your tea or coffee too because it does not raise blood sugar. Check out Bullet Proof Coffee for ideas. Actually, I normally drink bubbly water I make my self with a Soda Stream but you can have whatever water you like. You can also have a squirt of lemon in your water.

Good information, low carb, high fat and IF is the way to go!!! When you change from Sugar burning to fat burning, you won’t feel the hunger !! The problem is most people are scared of eating healthy fat, eggs, cheese, butter, heavy cream, organ meat, fatty meat,…!!! Just low carb and IF won’t do it!!! It is the fat that make you change from sugar burning mode to fat burning!!! It is the fat that keep you full because of slow digestion!! I run 10k just before breaking my 18 hr fast! 👍🏻🏃🏽‍♂️🥚☕️☀️🫀

Yes, more exercise can make you hungrier! No doubt. Also, can wear down joints unless swimming or low impact. The good thing ab exercise is that it makes the insulin use more efficient. Seems to be all ab a bunch of hormones and trying to control them and the brain's settings on what your weight should be. I guess after losing weight, u shld stay at a weight for a while to reset your brain? Then maybe try to lose more? It is not so easy. And then you get to where ya want to be and your like..okay, now what? Treat yourself to a calorie-rich treat? Nope. Lol.

Hi @dr.Becky - I like LMNT but it’s 1,000 mg of sodium per packet. Incorporating one packet a day, plus my regular food intake which already has a lot of salt to it, can that be too much sodium/salt? Thanks!
@beckygillaspy
@beckygillaspy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Catherine, many things lower your sodium levels (i.e., fasting, low-carb/keto, avoiding processed foods, exercise, sweating). I have discussed sodium recommendations in past videos. But if you'd like to know your sodium level, you can ask your doctor to measure it the next time you schedule a blood test.

Search dairy free keto. You don't have to have eggs or dairy to be in ketosis if they don't agree with you. Just keep your carbs low.

A supplement with sodium? that's crazy! Most of us get too much salt.
@BobbyFromNJ
@BobbyFromNJ Жыл бұрын
It's only "too much" salt on a high carbohydrate diet. Once you remove carbs, sodium is flushed from your system at an increased rate so it needs replenishing. Not only that, but the removal of overly processed packed foods (such as ramen noodle soup kits) also reduces sodium intake.
