Doesn’t it feel like we blinked, and suddenly Ozempic is everywhere? Ozempic is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes that also promotes weight loss. It is effective. But, it comes with some complaints. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. And the cost of Ozempic is a significant barrier for many. In this video, I will explain how Ozempic causes weight loss by mimicking the action of a naturally occurring hormone called GLP-1 and how you can boost that hormone by eating great-tasting foods.

Your cadence, tone and demeanor are nothing short of mesmerizing. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It’s interesting…I have been doing a lot of fermenting as of late-carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers (aka pickles) and even some fermenting in honey with garlic and other things. I have even been trying to create naturally fermented sodas with “ginger bug”. I have not yet mastered that. Yes the honey is high in sugar and so that needs to be slowed down. lol. But let me tell you!!!! I can be starving and I’ll eat a few big fermented carrots and I feel so full. I know I can’t build proper nutrition on that but it definitely gives a feeling of satiety. But what has me so excited is that the weight has been coming off and pretty quick. Almost to the point that I hoped I was okay. lol. I have wondered if it is all of the fermentation. And this video really makes me believe that it is! That feels so good!! I’ll be checking out more videos. This is my first one. Thank you!!!

I’ve had success in the past year on about 80 net carbs a day. I don’t count vegetables but do count fruit. From the first week, my appetite and ‘grazing’ cravings that were constant before were all but managed. There’s enough flexibility in 80 net carbs to cover some favorites when I want them without re-triggering appetite. Down 15 in 8 months - slow but sustainable so far and with a side benefit that going out to eat doesn’t sound as good as what I make at home now, so I’m saving money.

Thank you! I have lost over 100 pounds over a period of 4 years by eating real food like you recommended on this video. My cholesterol levels and blood sugars were all normal. Recently I was told I needed more protein and nuts and nut butters were recommended. My cholesterol went off the charts and my weight loss came to a halt. I only have 10 pounds to go to reach my goal. Now I am returning to my tried and true foods- yogurt for breakfast, salads with a variety of vegetables, and healthy protein like fish and chicken for dinner. This video was so helpful I’m sharing it with my family and friends.

@CozyRevolution So are you saying that you think the nuts and nut butters caused an increase in your cholesterol? They don't contain cholesterol so do you think the oils/fats in them somehow contributed to cholesterol staying in your blood? And weight gain?

These drugs seem so tempting to use for weight loss. My question is, what do you do once you loose your excess weight? Stay on these drugs, go on a diet 😢, or then change your eating habits as you describe? 2 years ago, I found Dr Becky and I have never looked back! During this time I have lost 76 lbs and I no longer take any medication for diabetes or high blood pressure! Bonus..... no outrageous cost for these drugs! By the way, I have maintained my weight loss and have a consistent A1C of 5.2. This is so do-able. Thank you so much Dr. Becky!

Yes, you wod need to change your lifestyle if you want things to be different. You also need to be aware that these drugs cause muscle loss as well as fat loss, so less muscle burns fewer calories and makes it harder for your body to regulate glucose. It would be good to be sure you are trying to maintain muscle. I see the value in thee as short term measures to get people who are obese into a safer weight, but longer term they can do more harm than good if you rely on them

@@matthewhunter6421 That would explain my docs response when I asked for it when my numbers have been high for years. He said "no, not worth it for you. You can loose it normally as if you take this drug you may be on it for life. " After doing this way of eating on this channel, I lost most of that weight drug free and brought my numbers all in the green. And taking medicine for a food problem seems silly.

Luckily there's a good salad bar in the nearest supermarket. Ozempic is not everywhere in my world. I'm in Ireland and I don't know one single person who's taken it. However, if you mix a spoon of psyllium husk into a yogurt, you'll be full for hours. That's my top tip for cheapempic. Day four of my diet 4th January and I have the evangelism of a new dieter. I need to keep this mindset.

I am a type 2 diabetic and I tried Ozempic. I lost weight, but also lost muscle as well as fat. I experienced the side effects mentioned nausea, intermittent sharp pains in my stomach and once I vomited. Also, experienced explosive diarrhea going from that to constipation. I decided to take myself off of the Ozempic and start lifting weights to counteract any muscle loss that I may have experienced. While I acknowledge the side effects all pharmaceuticals come with side effects some more severe than others. To me personally it was worth it for me to try the Ozempic. It was worth it to me to jump start my weight loss now I am more confident going to the gym. I have been using the machines but have been hesitant to go to the area where the free weights are. Another factor for me in deciding to stop the Ozempic was the concern of my family members as well as the cost of the monthly medication.

Eating before bed actually increased my fat loss, infact, I ate 6 meals a day/moderate meals and one of those was before bed. it consisted of protein and an EFA. I ate 30 and below on the glycemic level chart, 6 moderate meals a day, drank 1.5 gallons of water a day, and weight trained. I went from a US size 14 down to a size 3.. so you will NEVER convince me that eating before bed will cause weight gain. I increased my metabolism! All of this advice came from a friend of mine that was not only an expert in nutrition but he was also an instructor for strength training. Again, YOU WILL NEVER CONVINCE ME THAT YOU GAIN WEIGHT FROM EATING AT NIGHT.. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU'RE EATING!

The takeaway for me was good portion. The slow digestion the big portions makes a pokey belly and feels like I overate. But now that I understand it, I can put the right things together, but in smaller portions and feel satisfied for longer while it burns fat. I didn't understand that part of metabolism until now.

@user-xp5qx8wg9x
@user-xp5qx8wg9x 11 күн бұрын
Maybe think of the semiglutide help as your opportunity to learn to eat in a healthy, slim persons way and allow your body to get used to eating less while also feeling satisfied. I say this because unwanted side effects can come at any moment and you may have to give up the semiglutide. If you have been eating smaller amounts of fattening foods because of the semiglutide, you will go back to needing more of that fattening food to feel even semi-satisfied . Take this opportunity to learn a new way of eating, you will be very glad you took this time to learn a new habit that will help you take off and keep off the fat you don't want. I'm speaking from experience.

My sister had gastric sleeve surgery about 22 years ago, she lost a lot of weight after that by adding exercise, but she has chronic nutrient malabsorption issues. She's been on adderrall for the past 20+ years also and antidepressants intermittently. Last couple of years she started gaining back weight, has now been on ozempic injections for the past 7 months, has lost almost all the weight she gained. She is not reporting any side effects, but we don't talk very often. My feeling is if weight loss isn't really sustainable in a healthy way, pick a different way. But that's me. As I've gone through menopause a few years now at age 60, grains are not my friend, refined sugar is like a bomb to my metabolism. I'm giving Mediterranean keto a go because I can't to dairy, at all, and saturated fat makes my extremely insulin resistant. I'm looking forward to seeing how this works. Thanks Becky!

I appreciate your comment. There is no one size fits all. I lost 25 pounds recently by eliminating the "healthy" foods such as yogurt, whole grains, starchy veggies such as sweet potatoes and fruit. The carbohydrates and sugar in them (natural or no) were not my friend. I ate primarily meat, eggs, low carb veggies, salads, nuts and cheese. The weight melted off and my bloodwork improved. Might not work for everyone but it worked for me.

If I switch to following this diet, can constipation become a problem because of the digestion slowing down? What will prevent it? I’m not just preparing meals for myself (71), but also for my husband who is much older (15+yrs) and goes into distress if he doesn’t substantially eliminate himself daily and “on schedule”. Thank you for addressing a natural way to achieve a diet to side-step the use of “Ozempic” drugs.

Dr. Becky, This video was so timely! My husband was recommended this drug for his type diabetes diagnosis. I asked if we could wait and get more information. He agreed. What we are noticing is that there is a spike of glucose first thing in the morning; around 130. Immediately eating food gets it down to say 110 and then it goes up which it should do after he eats. Is this normal? He is using the free glucose monitor for the next 10 days. My biggest concern is that this won’t change behavior much for him. Like reading labels and eating on the run. One other question. Hot flashes in the night. Is diabetes connected to hot flashes? Your advice sounds good. Easy to follow. Can’t wait to dig into. Cindy

Hello, I was hesitating to take Wegovi to give me a hand, but I was afraid for my gallbladder wich has a large choletilithiasis. This video encourages me to try something else. Especially since I have recently known that half of the people using this type of drug quickly regain their initial weight.

Thanks, Dr Becky, but I'll just skip the salad and eat only the fats/ protein part. YUM!!! Nothing satiates me like a 400g steak with some chestnut mushrooms and/ or onions. I don't need to eat for another 20 hours when I do this, so the salads are unnecessary for me, personally.

Interesting video. As of Dec 2024, I'm going completely carnivore. ZERO sugar, ZERO Carbs, ZERO vegetables or other plant materials, ZERO alcohol. I eat twice a day, 12 hours apart. (Not quite ready for OMAD) Meats (ALL), Fish (Wild Caught ONLY), Eggs, Limited Cheese and LOTS OF BUTTER. Once you get past the first 30 days to purge your body of your sugar and carb cravings, you will feel great! And the occasional 24 hour FAST helps too. Another simple step to burn calories is to stay in a short sleeved shirt at work if they keep the thermostat on the cool side. Your body will adjust your own temperature to keep you comfortable.

I am on ozempic, a switch from Mounjaro. I am Type 2 for about 28 years. While I never really lost a lot of weight on either. Maybe a total of 10 pounds. My A1C went from 8.9 to 6.2. So a win. Mounjaro worked better, I have less side effects than ozempic. I got switched because of lack of supply for the Mounjaro. I try to eat healthy, and get exercise, during the winter months,it is hard to get out and exercise.

@diane Where I stay it gets really hot in summers and going out even for a walk is a pain. So what I do is home exercises. Squats - 100 variations, pick whatever version works for you. Next wall sits, also a type of squats (yay!). Next planks (you can start with half planks and then go to full version also both half and full can be done on the bed). Next leg raises and reverse crunches. Next standing elbow to opposite knee crunches. Start with 5 squats and 30 second half planks. 3 days later increase the number. 5 to 10 squats 30 second to 45 second planks. A week later add a new above mentioned exercise. Wall sit start with 20 seconds day after day increase the time in 20 second increments till one day you can wall sit for 2 minutes or more. Rinse repeat. Do some light stretching before and after exercise to help you do exercises with ease. Hope this helps. Remember exercising helps your body and your mind. You got this.

@ thanks for the info. Unfortunately I can’t do most of the exercises you recommended. Bad knee and trying not to have surgery so no squats of any kind. And last year I fell and broke my back and smashed my shoulder, so many exercises are put. I do some yoga stretches to help keep my mobility and hopefully this year can do more gardening. At 73 the body isn’t young anymore. Walking for short times is so far the best exercise, just hard to do outside in the winter. I really appreciate all your suggestions though.

My days activities and thoughts are so tied up in thoughts, responsibilities and others needs that even though I eat regular healthy meals when I get alone time I binge. I eat an un-noticeable amount of food from a dozen things around the kitchen. When I’m done binging I watch You Tube or Netflix until 2AM, get up at 5. 63, 5’11”, 280 lbs. talk to Dr and cardiologist and all I get is , ”well you have to stop.” Like it’s that easy. my Dr wants me to start shots like Ozempic.

I can do yogurt and berries for breakfast during the work week and even on Saturday. Although, I would miss the granola crunch. There are keto grain free granolas out there. However, we have a big family breakfast on Sundays. I don't want to have to resist bacon, toast, fried potatoes, pancakes, or french toast. I'm guessing the eggs are okay. I, also don't want to stay 100+ pounds overweight. Lunch and dinner might not be too difficult. I just might have to eat in a separate room when my family has that big pasta dinner, or mashed potatoes. That saying "Eat to live not live to eat" probably applies. I might have to go with treating my problem like the addiction that it is. Okay I'm done whining now and ready to take this challenge for a healthier life.
