Thank you! I just had a wild mom Quail hatch 12 chicks in my yard! I have been in heaven watching them running around my yard the last few days. I put a very shallow pan of water out for them and they love it!!

A baby quail came right up to our back door last night during the fireworks ( i'm guessing the noise scared them). It looked like it was newly hatched. I put it in a box with a heating pad on low and covered the pad with a towel and some baby chick crumble and a lid with some water in it. He wouldn't eat or drink then I watched your video and tried what you did. It worked like a charm! Thank-you!

Yes. .... Tap with finger at food so they learn to eat. Dip their beak in water. You can feed them non medicated chick starter. Take their water away at night so they do not drown

It worked with a quail hatchling we found in the road. It wouldn’t drink until we gently dipped its beak it water. Thanks!

Many thanks, been searching for "quail cage plans" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (do a search on google ) ? It is a great one of a kind product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got great results with it.

I use chic starter too mate. I agree about the water issue. I've not tried teaching them to drink. Mine seem to do it but jeez the drowning issue was a problem until I worked it out. Good clip.

we had the worst luck with our recent hatch. They were late, many were stuck in egg and we had to break them out (humidity reading 65%) . We only put a tiny bit of water in a plastic lid, barely enough to be wet, and several still managed to drown themselves. All of our past hatches were 90% hatch and we would only lose 1 or 2. Really bad luck this time. They seem to have a suicide pact going on. Oh, forgot to mention, several managed to wiggle themselves under the brooder tray and die. We have used this brood multiple times with no problems. Is very frustrating

Thank you for this video. I found a single abandoned baby quail today. It’s sleeping now. In the morning I’ll try to get it to eat and drink. If I am lucky enough to help it survive, how old should it be before I release it?
@lifeinthailand2 жыл бұрын
I would release it as soon as it is strong enough to go, if it can run it can go. I would put it somewhere in tall grass or bushes, somewhere it would normally hide and feel safe. I would not worry as much about feeding it, as I would about it drinking water. I have resuced many young birds, if not injured, they normally just need somewhere safe to rest and get it strength back.

I breed coturnix jumbo quail. They need at least 23% gamebird feed. I feed mine 28%. They lay more eggs and larger. I have read that they can do ok on low protein but I only feed high protein so I know they get what they need.

I was like, oh my gosh Paul you just set the waterer on the quail 😱 you squashed ur little peanut, lol!! My neighbor’s daughter hatched out some quail and when they were old enough put them outside in a cage. Well we have big red-tail hawks and it was like ringing the dinner bell...no more quail but a fat happy hawk....

I feel there must be a better food and water system for newborn chicks. Mine just make a mess on everything, get wet (even with the gravel). Lost 3 out of 9 in my first hatch.
