Just because the movie was never made doesn't mean it would've been an excellent movie had it been made. I mean if Kevin Smith who later directed and wrote Yoga Hosers and Tusk says your script sucks then it probably sucks. I remember reading the leaked Kevin Smith Superman script online too. It also sucked so it's probably a good thing that was never made either. Nicholas Cage was all wrong as Superman anyway.

If it was given a few rewrites to accommodate the events of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, I could see this happening. It would be best to address how American tourists and corporations have done more harm than good to Hawaii. As for guest stars, I could see Michelle Pfeiffer as the ghost with the most new love interest. Let's throw in Kevin Smith and Nic Cage to have the meta-joke come full circle.

With that said I hope Tim can find a way to work elements from the Hawaiian script into the story treatment for a 3rd film which is obviously going to be titled 'Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.'

Beetlejuice Goes To Hawaii would have been a better movie than the one we know today in 2024. It made sense and would have been an interesting sequel. It might have been heavily criticized, but it was certainly memorable and fun. If the plot was entertaining, the movie would have been worth the cost of the movie ticket.

Yeah, no, I‘m glad we didn‘t get that one. It sounds more like an episode from the cartoon, and if you look at it, bits and pieces did end up in there. We got several episodes that took place on a beach, even one on a cruising ship, and also a few that had BJ turn jealous or had him save her from a forced marriage with a bull (& having multiple bovine kids). I do like the bogus part of the idea, but not the setting. Seeing this, I‘m even more happy with how the sequel turned out, and I now also get Betelgeuse‘s out-of-the-blue romantic obsession with Lydia. That one was clearly a left-over from Hawaii.

This could have worked brilliantly, keeping the original characters and their motivations but transplanting them onto a new backdrop totally unlike the original, _a.l.a._ ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre II’, and marrying Burton’s dark and bizarre slanted architectures and geometric silhouettes with the lurid ‘Aloha!’ hibiscus and Piña Coladas Hawaiian setting. I guess I’d have to concede it though that it would have to have been literally perfect or else it would most probably have become a spectacular failure, much as I would like it to have been made . . . _Hell,_ even if it were ‘Ghostbusters II’-tier quality, that would have been fine.

I wonder if he managed to scratch the tiki kitsch itch when he produced Cabin Boy? I love that movie, and you can definitely see his mark on it. The 90s was the perfect time for something like that, and overall I liked the script, but you could get rid of the wife as she seems completely irrelevant. With a little luck, we might get to go tropical for the 3rd one. (Ortega could pull of beach bunny...)

I dunno... I think the central problem is, how much nostalgia for early-60s surf movies would people *really* have still had circa 1990? A story this reliant on known tropes requires an audience that knows those tropes. This sounds like a theatrical flop, VHS cult classic, at best.

There is something interesting in that idea, I'm just not super into the Deetz family coming back. As much as I like them in the original movie, I'd prefer the goes Hawaiian concept with another family. That way whoever he tried to manipulate to get out of the afterlife wouldn't have prior knowledge that he is a deceitful character. Why would Lydia ever trust him after all her and her family went through in the original movie? Having it be a new person even plays into how much of a scummy hustler Bettlejuice is, he isn't trying to get married out of love, but just to get out of the afterlife at any cost.

Maybe parts of this script will be in Beetlejuice 3 if it happened but I think the third film should be in 2026 or 2028. I think BJ3 should also take ideas from Wes Craven’s new nightmare and have Geena Davis play as herself or of Barbara appeared again but she can look how she did in the original film when she touched Lydia’s hand when wearing her wedding dress.

But in our universe, we're stuck w/a Beetlejuice sequel way too late where that ship has long sailed. Perhaps if Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ends up being a huge success, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian ends up revived & greenlit. Switch out the Lydia character for Astrid (Jenna Ortega's character), & problem solved. Or maybe turn it into a play, or stop-motion, animated movie.
