What do @FullyCharged think about the new government extending subsidies of £22 billion in Carbon capture so gas power stations can carry on burning stuff for the next 25 years. Surely that money would be better spent installing mass battery storage so we can get rid of gas altogether?

@@alanhat5252 Mmmm... Not too sure. If we had started CC 50 years ago, £22bn would have been OK, with that timescale! However, we just don't have the time to mess around with a currently innefectual solution like CC :(( We MUST spent money on solutions that will have an impact WITH FIVE YEARS. Wind, Solar & Batteries are the ONLY options in this timescale! Certainly, CC may be used in 20+ years, but only after we have got over the existing hurdle. In the distant future, we will STILL be using Oil, we'll still be burning oil & we'll still be generating huge amounts of CO2 from various manufacturing processes - These are what we will need CC for...

In 2012 I guarantee your Nissan leaf was powered by electricity form burning fossil fuels. Just because you dont see it coming out an exhaust pipe doesnt mean diesel fumes were not being produced for you to make your journeys. Out of sight out of mind, someone else's problem, still the same result.

I've been following Fully Charged/Everything Electric for many years and really enjoy the content that you put out. I've also been to three of the shows and they were great. I actually live in Argyll about an hour or so from Tayvallich so was very pleased to see that recent episode so close to home. My wife an I both drive electric cars and we installed a heat pump just under two years ago. There have been a couple of issues with my car but overall it's been a really good experience. However, there is something that I think you might seriously consider. I always try and read/watch what people that I really disagree with are saying. More often than not there is something within what they say that I find myself in agreement with and that helps to keep me grounded and not become a fanboy or overly defensive. I really think it would be great if you invited to the shows and had a panel (also had podcasts) with some of the KZbin anti EV folks out there. It would allow everyone to shine a little light on some inconsistences on both sides and the hope would be that we all come away with a more balanced view and learn something from each other. Thank you all for your hard work, it is very much appreciated, and especially to Robert for making the effort to get things started all these years ago. P.S. Glad you're looking to bring back the North show as it's a lot closer for the Scottish fraternity to travel to and it's a really great venue.

Nice to know. With solar on my roof it costs me nothing to charge my EV. Obviously Perth, Western Australia is somewhat different to the UK.

Sounds good, but may I ask what a typical solar installation might cost in your part of the world? Not just the panels, I mean everything required to make it viable - wiring, widgets, magic boxes, etc. How much sun do you get annually? Are there any government grants or schemes available to help people 'go green'? Here in the UK, worthwhile [sic] solar is an absolute rip-off - unless one's £oaded, in which case a few thousand quid is neither here nor there, and one probably wouldn't be bothered about trying to save money by investing in renewables in the first place.😞 [Note - I don't usually say 'one', but did so here because I didn't want you to think I was focusing on you (and your finances) personally!🙂]

@@EleanorPeterson I am fortunate to not need to borrow money for either the car or the solar set up. I never included any thought of being paid for the electricity that I export to the grid. I have 25 panels, and a 15kWh battery. The solar system cost about AU$24000. I am saving about $1200 per annum in electricity costs and $2500 to $3000 in petrol at current prices. In six or seven years I will be even on the initial cost of the solar system. I had my last car for seventeen years. I doubt I will feel any pressure to sell this one for a long time. As a purely financial investment, it made a lot of sense. The bonus is that the car is great, and with the battery, I can charge it from 3am on yesterday's left over sunshine. Yes, Perth is a very sunny place. We average 8.8 hours of sunshine per day and 138 clear days per year. About one third of houses here have solar systems. Usually without the battery.

Here in South West UK, it's better for me to export as much solar as possible, where I get paid 10 Pence per kWhr more than I buy a kWhr off peek. So I charge the car, run the dishwasher, washing machine and heat the hot water at night, so I can send as much as possible to the grid in the daytime. This is the same theory as having a battery, but I'm using the grid as my battery, and getting the energy back at night, but at a lower cost. So far it's working well, so well in fact that my car is effectively free to run.

I have been inspired by your shows for a few years. I really appreciate your informed, factual, and often amusing content. Sounded out Jack on my shortlist of EVs at the Vancouver show in 2023 and ordered an Ioniq 6 AWD upon my arrival home. (Thanks for your thoughts Jack!) Have put 13,000km on it since, a mix of winter and milder weather. It is really fun to drive, convenient especially in the winter as it starts the day charged, I heat it while I am having my breakfast, and if I must “refill”, I don’t freeze my fingers at gas pumps because once the charging starts one can go inside or sit in the car. It is by far the best car I have ever driven in my 50 years of driving, largely because it is electric. One does have to plan longer road trips where I live, especially in cold weather (less than -10C), and perhaps allow for an extra stop, but I am getting really good at aligning my main charging session with lunch and my bladder definitely has a shorter range than the I6! Most importantly, I have had no real problems and rediscovered the joy of driving! Thank you Fully Charged!

The Fully Charged crew do an amazing job and the Fair Charge initiative has helped a few more positive stories come out. I really hope Electric Vehicles UK can perform as you wish as it is like climbing a huge mountain. I also feel that the car companies have not been doing anything to promote their EV's and looking at worldwide sales for this last month it seems to be Tesla, BYD and Nio that have the biggest shares. I've followed Fully Charged since very early days if not the start. I was already a fan of Robert from many things including his Carpool show (he beat James Corden and Jerry Senfield to it on that idea). I'm a proud patron and so excited about how this franchise has expanded into what it is today and to have been a small part of it. Until this year I have been to every UK Fully Charged Show and the first Everything Electric Show in London. Unfortunately my new job rota means I have been unable to attend any shows since. I'm gutted. I hope I can attend a few next year. The venues are always well chosen and I particularly miss going to Farnborough and Harrogate. Harrogate is a stunningly beautiful location. I always attend as many of the three days as I can as there is way more to see and do than anyone could possibly fit in. Nothing better cements the idea that electric transport is back than the existence of Fully Charged. To go to a show and see endless proof of how far renewable technology has come confirms that the future is inevitable. Well done all. Keep up the hard work and don't forget to keep having fun on the way.

I'm sitting here in Oz watching this, I'm looking at Dan's jacket and thinking I'd be happy/proud to wear that, it would be a great conversation starter - I'd even be happy to pay shipping from UK to Oz! I paused the video, went to the interwebs and looked for the merch - gave up and came back to the video, and the next words out of Imogen's mouth were "..the one that I get asked all the time is, will there be merchandise?" :-) So yes please, get on with it. I mentioned I am going to the show this weekend and we got on to the subject of Evs. She didn't seem keen on them and when I asked the first comment was about the batteries (life and disposal) and the second on charging. As a keen cyclist living in a flat I can see her point on the charging side. But I had to put her right on the batteries with knowledge gained from your shows. So thanks for all the education, keep it coming.

For me, tied in with the stop burning stuff campaign, a revenue opportunity for fully charged would be training. Starting with media training for the industry, giving them the tools to get the positive messages out effectively, open sessions could also be offered at the events. Second round of training could be pulling together experts to give them a holistic course electricians, solar companies, heat pumps and heating engineers, installers, Car chargers, council planners, architects etc. can all use to create well designed efficient anf future proofed systems.

@@decimal1815 Why do they need a 200 mile range? Seriously - are they actually driving 200 miles a day? Whilst I get that some (very few) people do that sort of daily mileage in their personal car - if 99% of your driving is less than 200 miles a day, you don't need a 200 mile range. However, if you're prepared to put up with a slightly lower range, there's plenty of 2017-18 Renault Zoes - some even with outright owned batteries - for less than £7k.

@@theelectricmonk3909 why does anyone need 200 mile range? The charging infrastructure may be crap where they live, and they may have to charge on public chargers that are not always accessible. If they do a 50 mile commute to work each day, they don't need to charge every day.. There are two reliable public rapid chargers near me for example. All the others are frequently offline. There's no way I'd be relying on them to get to work every day. There are very few battery owned ZE40 for less than £7k with rapid charging option.

@@decimal1815 So tell them to wait a year, or even two. By that time, there likely will be much more charging infrastructure, hopefully more reliable and cheaper too. There'll also be a considerably larger number of second hand >200 mile range cars available. In the meantime, buy a small highly efficient used petrol or diesel car that'll keep them going until they can switch over to the future.

We really enjoyed the show in Vancouver. Well done. My wife had a list of activities lined up in Vancouver as she is not a ‘wander the exhibit booths’ person. She stayed for the 3 days and loved the talks. We were kept busy moving between the two theatres. Please keep the overlapping activities. I understand with the support of BC Hydro why you are in Vancouver. As you become more comfortable I hope you will consider a show in Ontario. Doesn’t have to be Toronto. Actually better if it’s not. Traffic is appalling. I wanted to comment on one aspect of this podcast which I enjoyed. Media can be negative but they really see themselves as protectors of the public. If organizations are saying one thing and the rabid nutter is saying the opposite, media outlets will notice the person, not the organization or company. It’s not about getting the ‘true’ facts out. So I suggest you focus your efforts on individual testimonials. Not by experts but just people. When the media outlets see their audience liking and wanting EVs they will respond to them in a much more positive way. By keeping constant correction out of your message, you will be more successful in the long term changing an attitude. Responding with cold information makes you look corporate and critical of the media that you want on your side. Responding with John and Susan and their 4 year EV experience will be seen positively by both the public but also the media. Make them your friends. Get to know them.

I've been a bit of an eco-warrior since my grand children arrived and I realised what a mess my generation and those that came before, have made of our planet. I bought a Nissan leaf on PCP to see if I could live with an EV. I have to say it is a vastly underrated car and I instantly loved it. My wife then bought a ZOE which she still owns and would not swap it for anything! I have since installed solar panels, smart charging, an air source heat pump, induction hob and moved to Intelligent Octopus Go. Also replaced the Leaf with a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD which I love! We run our cars for pennies and burn nothing in our household. Even had the gas supply disconnected! It's not cheap to make these changes but we NEED to get on board somehow. I feel the government could put more incentives in place rather than bringing in Road Tax for EVs. Keep up the good work guys!

I'm always battling misinformation online, and I've often thought that industry and government are not doing enough to combat it. By getting the government involved, I don't mean to censor the misinfo, but merely counteract it and produce wide-reaching articles that are factually correct and not patronising. Government and industry should work together on this. I recently was among the first to comment on Facebook on an Autocar article on September's SMMT car sales. Despite EV sales being up, the general message was that sales are down. The vitriol and anger from anti-EVers was incredible. I merely pointed out the misleading headline and mentioned climate change. I've had over 100 replies and counting, mostly personal insults.

In the UK the FUD is very real, the number of people (when I mention I plan to buy an EV) say "well the battery's aren't ready.." etc etc seems to be increasing, this is despite a lot EV ownership and even large electric buses in this area

Those “large electric buses” are FUD. Garbage products from dodgy, scam producers, these Stirling (as in Lucas) fraudbuggies can set back UK electrification by decades…

I'm always having to explain to colleagues and friends why we have an EV as a family car. I'm always getting asked the same old questions like, am I worried about getting stranded with a flat battery, or isn't it inconvenient to keep stopping to charge it on a long journey, and the latest, asking if I'm worried that it might go on fire and kill us all!! The truth is for 90% of our driving, we charge at home on an EV tariff, which gives us genuine 2.5 Pence per mile driving, so having to charge a few times per year on an open Tesla Supercharger is not really an issue. When we drive over 300 miles to visit family members, some still ask if we get fed-up driving there in a EV, as it's so "inconvenient" to stop ½ way for a break. We do stop for a break about ½ way, but it's for us to take a break, more than the car, but we do charge the car at the same time, so it's not an inconvenience at all. There's so much FUD about, it's difficult to keep having to defend our decision to drive an EV, so no I don't. I just say it's up to us what we drive, same as it's up to you what you drive. I'm currently saving for our second EV, so I can get rid of our last ICE vehicle, as I know from experience, that an EV is so much less hassle long term than an ICE vehicle.

Yay, Sydney in March again, health permitting that would be show #3 for me

This is what it costs us. $1 Australian to travel 100 klms in my Model Y. The reasons. We have solar so charging during the day is $3 per 60kwh. At night we have a deal with our supplier at 8 cents per kwh for charging between midnight and 6 am, so that costs $4.80. That's less than $1.00 per 100 k but we make a long distant trips maybe 2 - 3 times per year and will use super chargers which brings it up to about $1 per 100 k over the course of the year. That is 15 times less than the Mazda CX5 we replaced. Additionally, we are a two car family. The other one is a VW ICE but because the EV is so cheap to run we take it 75% of the time where as before then the use was more like 50/ 50. We are saving close to $4,000 per year on fuel.

Crazy that you see Australia so optimistically. Society here is so practiced in the default response of "but we're not some European country" to stone wall everything from trains to bike lanes. And people are still so much in love with big 4x4 Utes. I see that hard to shift. On the plus side, I think EVs speak for themselves. Once I sat in one I instantly "got it". Brands like BYD and MG make EVs much more attainable in the Australian market.

Yes our EV car market is still growing but our home/commercial energy solutions are off the charts. From energy saving devices to batteries and rooftop solar our uptake on these items per capita is among the highest in the world.

Well done you two and the team, you really have push the boat out and made first class video entertainment. I am sorry to hear of the people you had to let go, must of been very hard. But your plans Dan sound solid and look forward to the next 5 years of Fully Charged. I wound like to make a suggestion, Farmers, they are an integral part of our lives and must play a significant role in the transition. Is there anyway we can see you guys give them some footage on the channel like solar farms for example, or and wind turbines. These areas get a very negative response in the normal media channels, I think its time we gave them a head up!!! PS I think there is a risk that being seen to be too successful, can give poeple the wrong impression of the channel, and perhaps that why you've decided to focus on your selves in this episode. Nothing wrong with that. However, some negativity is not a bad thing, but not striking the balance, and favouring possitivity can also be as damaging, as being negative. Just saying!!

well done for doing the rapid response thing, there's a couple of youtubers in the UK at the moment, one is a dealer who is making daily videos on why EVs are not selling, etc etc, im not going to name and shame, but he keeps going on about brakes pads and discs not lasting 80000-100000km and tyres not lasting 40000kms etc. i would love to see an EV pro rapid response video on this to prove it either way? ( i know tesla tyres can wear in the inside if not tracked correctly etc) he also mentions about lots of EVs on a well know car online website in the UK that are not selling or their prices have dropped by a lot every week etc he shows examples of this and to be honest, deprecation does bother me . would love this addressed also with a pro EV or an explanation of why he sees this. keep up the good work, will be going to the fully charged show next year hopefully

Excellent content once again for someone that is fully invested in the transition. I am sure you guys have been looking at how you engage with a broader audience as EVs go from niche to mainstream. I wonder if you have considered a spin off channel that is more light hearted, entertainment or adventure based to get some broader exposure without impacting the core channel. Like scrap heap challenge, mighty car mods, or similar. Something where electric or sustainable is fundamental but the challenge, adventure, travel whatever is of equal importance, primarily as.a way of appealing to more than the techy boffin types. Something that could pull in carwow type numbers of around 10 million but could still be done on a budget.

Enjoyed this video. A problem I have recently encountered is trying to program my Zappi charger. The instructions are full of jargon and are less than intuitive. Also some configuration has to be done on the actual Zappi, some can be done on the app and some can be done via the web page. I don't know if other chargers are the same. Similarly my Renault Zoe is equally annoying when it comes to the interfaces both in the car and on the app. Any chance of finding out from the companies manufacturing this equipment whether they actually do any usability testing? I am retired but previously worked in a retail company in IT and there was an entire department of people who knew little of IT who were charged with testing all new interfaces to find out if they understood them.

I thought that Fully Charged was doing occasional advertorial content already. I enjoy the positive deep dives into a product or firm and would if they were paid. After all the firms are paying to attend the exhibitions and I think that principle sits naturally with the video content too, providing it’s always signposted clearly.

Just like sustrans (cycling) you are doing what the Government should be funding and promoting. Most people don't think beyond their wallet, so new/renewable technologies need to be made cheaper than the alternative (burning stuff). Given that even our new Government has proved itself to be in the pockets of the oil and gas companies ( carbon capture funding) you have set your selves a considerable challenge. I really do hope you succeed.

Dan is such a breath of fresh air. Tactfully tells it like it is. I think one of the major barriers to new energy adoption went in the UK general election. The confience will return but it'll be a long road, because the majority of people are, unfortunately, much poorer and ill-informed. Most certainly don't watch TFC/EE/Ss, or informative Others, and that's a real problem. And the mainstream media ensures that entrenched opinions remain. So a rapid response to the FUD will go some way to battling this - It'll need to be loud. My opinion is that much of the FUD impact will actually go away once BEVs reach a percentage that self generates - the famous tipping point. I thought I knew where that was, but honestly I don't anymore. However, if we all keep on telling the truth, with a loud enough voice, slowly the majority of people will start to realise it. And poorer people must be included, because there is no electrification revolution without them.

Bitterly disappointed to hear there will be no show in Harrogate in 2025. I bought 3 day tickets for 2023 and 2024 but for personal reasons was not able to attend. I was intending to make special arrangements in advance to ensure I could attendance in 2025. Would be grateful to hear as soon as possible the stated alternative event in the North next year and maybe I can support that instead.

I've always wondered if people paid for the videos focused on one company as they were often very soft interviews that were pretty much promotional videos and free advertising. I would have asked some tougher questions and given a more balanced perspective of the companies featured, perhaps mentioning (or quoting) competitors' / other technologies opinion.

For reference, I live 4,000 km (38 hours of driving one way) from Vancouver and this is taking a short cut through the US. Driving through Canada , which I did last year , it takes a lot longer. I notice no mention of the TV cross-over - hope that hasn't completely died as an idea - seems like a good Ch4 match. Pity that EE North at Harrogate won’t happen this year. Having travelled half the length of the UK to get to the nearest EE show in 2022 and 2023 it really riles that you are still so centered on the S E of England and haven’t moved even further north than Harrogate. Having said that it was very noticeable this year that the 2024 was less well attended and had fewer exhibits than 2023. Could it be that the greater distance between shows will actually bring in more interest? I refuse point blank to fly or get on a packed train to London to spend a hot sweaty day in the over crowded London catchment area. I’m sure that there are many of your fans in Scotland who feel the same especially regarding the cost to travel south and the need for at least two nights in an overpriced hotel local to the shows (thanks to demand led pricing £400 a night in a budget hotel near to the show is not on on most people’s budget)

I did it solo with a collie dog as co driver in 33 days. First Polestar and first canine copilot to do the lap. I’d love to tell our story at the EE Sydney show!
