In The Purple Cow, at the end of the book, Seth has his personal email address (at least that's how it is in the Romanian version I read), I sent him an email of appreciation and was overwhelmed by the fact that I got an reply back from him. For me this is what living the Practice means :)

34:53 my biggest takeaway. As a creative, I take direct or indirect feedback, (or lack thereof) personally. I think I have really been putting a lot of myself into my work, and expecting people to want to go along that "Journey". "Forgive the audience for not wanted to go the on the journey with you."👍 And know the difference between making what you want to create, and what you want the audience to respond to you. Thank you Mr Godin 👌

“Instead of asking yourself what ‘what would you do if you couldn’t fail’ ask yourself ‘what would you do if you KNEW you were gonna fail?” 👏 Genius because that question detaches you from the outcome. Then you are free to create what YOU want. 👏

I wish you had pressed him to expand more on the last topic, deadlines. You can do an entire podcast just on that ! It''s probably the biggest thing I've struggled with, even since school, and I know I'm not alone. For instance, what would he do if a deadline is approaching and the project can't be completed in any satisfactory fashion. Do you just "meet the deadline" and do really crappy work just to meet the deadline? Or do you communicate with the customer that the original expectations are simply not realistic for the time allowed (thus moving the deadline). The trouble with doing this is the deadline can become a moving goalpost and I would have loved to hear his thoughts on this.

Problem is, that generally for the "non attachment" to work, you have to be in financially and ideally socially / emotionally sound place. It is easy - at least for me - to create from that place without any stakes, but once the outcome could decide if you will finally have some friends, or if you will have finally at least some feeling of financial security, it is almost impossible to get to that free state of mind.

right. sometimes you have no other option as to play it save. if you cant pay your rent you have to take the meh paid job. but i see it more as a state of mind not a practical tipp for every situation.
@exprezzion3 жыл бұрын
knowing that's the place to be, rather than some far-off all-in-one unattainable place one could chase forever, one can make a five month or five year or perhaps even five decade plan to be able to free themselves of attachment to certain outcomes from their work for at least a certain amount of time. I'm on the hook of that clock now. it's the tightrope. it feels great at least.
