I got mine from Thomann Germany back in November 2019 before they were available here and I posted a review on sweetwater on the crave, it's an absolute must have for the price! I'm telling you right now after this bad boy I now have 20 synths and 3 drum machines and 2 groove boxes. Thanks Daniel again for your amazing demos

I feel like this is a bit of an unfair demo as the delay pedal it’s hooked up to is an entirely separate machine itself that cost more than the actual synth you’re demoing. Just a personal take.

This is always the great debate. Demo with or without effects. Most people will use effects so this gives you a idea of what it can do with effects.
@Curverbak3 ай бұрын
I get your point but it’s not uncommon for a reverb/delay device to be more expensive than the synth/source. I recently saw a video of a Behringer 2600 with a Strymon Magneto. Even with a 2600 the FX device was the more expensive one.

@@biggrime I’ve got a general idea of what the effects I use do to sounds, though. When I pull up a product demo I want to hear what the actual product is offering so I can make the judgement call if I want to find out what I can do with that with my own gear.

You could put a couple smoke detectors and a pack of matches in front of Daniel and he'd kick out a jam and have everyone's head bobbing. Truly a remarkable man. The Vatican should make him the Saint of analog synthesis.

It is a fun instrument, ive had a lot of fun with mine, either doing tight sequences or layered with other synths in melodies

I have one and I love it. It's closely based on the Mother32, but not identical. Sounds totally different, it's a lot cheaper, it's a lovely analog mono synth for the buck.

CAUTION! Be careful around the 5:00 mark; those frequencies are ear-splitting! You guys need a video editor that's not deaf. Other than that, it's a great demo.

Re: "synth must have": The west pest. the wave folder and that twisted envelo-filter thing and the other insane features that aren't on any other synths I have make it essential for my little twisted semi rig. i think semi-modules in that form factor would sell. I would buy a highly controllable lfo and twin filter modules, and a modulatable digital effects module without jumping into full modular(paging Mr stillman). (the take5 has really messed my head up. Why can't everyone do some of these awesome things) edit: Uno pro desktop is a lower priced dual filter option but you can't really do anything extra semi with it like on a matriarch but ya I want that as a semi option for a tenth the price.

so if you patch in ext audio does it delink the white noise and replace it with the EXT?
@telantas11 күн бұрын
Exactly. But you can still have noise in your mix, you would need to patch the noise out from the patch bay back in (e.g. use the on-board mixer for that).

As soon as I see a synth being demoed with another box I’m suspicious that something is boring about that synth that it can’t carry its own weight. How much is the incredibly expensive box making that noise - not a fair first impression. Please just show us the synth.

Hi cav-eiremusic. I got my first flattop in 2013 at a motorcycle rally in Chicago. One of the booths were giving free haircuts... if... you got a flattop. Everyone I knew said they really liked it, so I've done it ever since. Strangely, I had never gotten a flattop the whole 13 years that I was in the Army (1981-1993). -_Daniel_

Yes to the flattop! 👍. Dave Gahan would be proud!
@michael70189 ай бұрын
Sounds thin…filters are not up to par also. Needs lots of reverbs to make it sound ok. But for that price it’s a good entry level for home use synth. Wouldn’t want to fire this up live with its lack of potent vcos and cheap filter. These are what I call popcorn synths 😅. The 2 old Korg Volca I own sound way better. So for that price, buy yourself a Volca and save $.

Description above says, "invoke a distinctive array of powerful tones, from dirty basses to searing leads". I heard none of this, just a lot of playing around with the oscillator, resonance, cutoff, arping. Nothing on creating sounds or using it in an application environment. Just monkeying around making noises. Not a useful video at all.
@makeshift_battlefield_music Жыл бұрын
I think the appeal of this instrument is it is a cheap device for people to learn simple synthesis up to an advanced level using the patch bay and other instruments with it. To be honest, ive never been too blown away by the sounds ive made with mine compared to any other synth, quality of the sound is definitely good, and it is fun to play with, but very much oriented to the beginner or someone adding it to other devices
