true, i just wish i could stop putting that pressure on myself. i feel guilty for just not feeling like drawing one day, and i have so many personal art project ideas i want to do, but any time i draw something not artfight related i feel like i'm wasting my time and energy. i haven't started my first job yet but i will pretty soon, and i can't imagine how much more frustrating it'll be when i do. i know there's no real pressure to do a certain amount of attacks, but i just feel guilty for no real reason.

Becoming an adult artist definitely feels so different from being a child/teenage artist (obviously). I am putting some more details into my ArtFight drawings but since starting a job (way to go planning on that one me LOL) I feel like I aswell am now going to have to schedule when I can draw. I also feel like the anger comes from a place of not understanding how much time responsibilities take up, when I was younger I was never as busy as I am now (work, friends, hobbies, streaming)

Wasnt even aware that was such a hot topic. I have been doing AF since 2017, and always found a good mix of minors and adults in the userbase, many of the adults having fulltime jobs and families. So that did not feel unusual at all to me! Im 39 with a fulltime job and have to take care of everything on my own and do commissions on the side for doctors visits, but artfight is huge fun to me and I usually put my sidehussles on hold for all of July, just for this. The result being that its day 4, and I finished over 20 attacks already. How? Well The people who do artfight because they want to get attacked or revenged, simply dont seem to get the point, as you said! My personal reasons I do artfight are: - It feels great to get comments like "Oh my gosh you drew them so cute!" or "this made my day" or even just "lol" We live on a planet that is on fire right now, and makeing some peoples day even just a tiny bit brighter, thats a success to me, and it lifts my own spirits in return! Heals myself a little bit too! winwin! - boosting small artists confidence by drawing their characters and acknowledging that they may not be "there" yet artwise, but their ideas are fire! - its great exercise! Artfight taught me speedartstrats, and higher flexibility in the topics I draw. Something I may not have done if it had been purely for myself. - sometimes you just need to draw to unwind after a long day, but dont know what to draw. Pick random character, GO! Artfight is an endless prompt maschine for indecisive trouts like me. This being said, i fully agree with your statements! - If you are an adult, put your physical and mental health first. Some of us heal through art, but not everyone does. - Keep in mind that nobody owes you a revenge attack and neither do you owe anyone else. (thats a hard one, cause you kind of feel like you HAVE to revenge. Wich is why some people, me included, write on their profle that they will DM a revenge if they dont manage to finish a revenge during artfight! Its perfectly fine! It will jst not count to the teampoints.) - Pick characters that you are itching to draw or want to challenge yourself with, and you will be golden! Even silly art is very welcome on artfight, and from personal experience I can say that many adult artists actually prefer shitpost attacks. Just check their permissions, if you are unsure if someone is okay with something or not.

and hey if that is how you feel about it. Then just take a step back and dont worry about it! lots of people do it in other ways. LIke ive seen Inktobers where people do little tiny mini books ( like a mini doodle every day ) ive seen people just do Drawtober where they do sketches

It's my first Artfight with a proper full-time job, so I finally feel the struggle too. But I actually think it's a good opportunity for me as a perfectionist to learn to just call things 'done' (I guess I needed that lol). Only doing sketches is a really good way to combat that, too! Another way to get a few more attacks out is to look for simple-shaped characters like that blorbo thing, I personally always make sure to feature my clob character on my card so people know I got one for a quick attack/revenge. Blob characters are valid and more people should allow themselves to draw them without thinking they're being lazy! (Also I barely know anyone who picked Seafoam so I gotta bookmark your babies for later)

I'm also in my 30s, a full-time artist, and a mom with a 2 year. I'm doing Artfight for the first time this year. I feel a deep NEED to do Arfight for my creative soul even if it's just a few things, or it's a simple drawing. As an adult it's hard to take time off without feeling guilty for not being productive and hustling to pay bills. It's dystopian, it's F-ed up IMO, I hate it. I realized that hustle culture is bad for my mental health, and I'm trying to allow myself to let go and have fun once in a while. I have bills and a credit card to pay off and commissions to do, BUT I'm lucky to be in a position where I can take some time off to do Artfight, and I'll be fine; my family will be fine. Artfight just started, but I'm having so much fun, I'm not stressing over my artfight goals or revenge attacking, I am just vibing and drawing character that inspire me, at my own pace and it's great. Everyone participating have fun! Everyone who is not, no stress

I’ve wanted to talk about adulting as a grown up artist but haven’t felt prepared to cover it - needless to say the title definitely got my attention 😊 art fight as an adult can feel like a temp part time job just because of how deliberate we have to be with planning/scheduling it around our responsibilities, jobs and family obligations. I haven’t watched this fully yet but I just wanna say: Something that’s bothered me as I’ve grown older is this growing… sense of duty?? To not align myself with those younger than me. It’s more so I have this fear of being idolized by younger artists just because my artstyle seems to appeal to many and all. It’s something that I’ve been trying to tackle, and I feel worried that maybe people will think I’m snooty or something for wanting to not form parasocial relationships with others online. I just don’t want to influence people in a negative way I suppose. There’s also this thing of that I’m just an artist online; and I feel like in this day and age of the internet, people are very hypercritical of what artists do. But I just wanna create to create. I don’t wanna have to worry about being a kid’s first exposure to some adult topic but… It’s not like there’s much I can do about that beyond making it known my artwork is intended for older people. 😭 I’m only 20 (so I probably seem like a baby to you) but as I get older it’s something I hope I don’t have to worry about so much.

Happy disability pride month! 🏳🌈 I'm celebrating by taking it easy. 🏳⚧❤ I think AF can be tough too bc there's more people doing it every year, so that's more people likely to be young artists with not much awareness of limiting factors for adult artists. It can also be hard to estimate prep time for it - refs, what characters to give priority to, do's and don'ts, ect - so crunch thru june and burnout in july. I'm waiting until Creator Clash in september tho. Seeing everyone talk about AF is my reminder to work on references at my own pace and get excited for it. Bc otherwise if I don't have reminders and a 'deadline' my mentally-ill ass is NOT getting anything done lmao. I think the teams this year are Early Bird and Night Owl, I'm very conflicted on what team to join bc I love morning and night equally. XD

TBH the best thing that works for (ME ) and has taken me years to perfect is a physical Calendar and to-do lists where instead of time frames I do lists of just stuff to do in the day. So I have a calendar for July as shown in the video. Then what I normally do is I go week to week and I write down things that need to get done daily. Then when i do that task I either highlight it or cross it out to show its done
