I used to raise rabbits on our small farm and please don’t beat yourself up about the kits. It’s sad but you’re right when you say they are very very fragile. Also bunny moms are EXTREMELY instinctual and will often reject a litter to begin a new one. That’s why they breed at such a fast rate and why the phrase “breeding like rabbits” exists. Motherhood comes in crazy shapes in sizes, and nothing in nature is inherently “good” or “bad.” Like how elephant mothers give all their care to one calf every 4-5 years or so and a rabbit can have 7 litters in a year. It makes you think about how diverse nature is.

Something I learned bc of our chickens recently is that they prefer being flat footed, so a 2-4” flat roosting surface is great since they don’t like curl their feet when they sleep like wild birds do. I love our chickens so much and hope y’all get so much joy from them!

Ya definitely don’t feel bad about the buns… it’s not very common for the mamas to have a successful first litter. Also they’re so fragile … I grew up raising rabbits and you’re definitely just doing your best aha that’s all you can do :,) hopefully when you guys decide to breed them again it’s successful!

You should try “bunny boxes” ! When I had rabbits, that was a LIFESAVER for me. & lay hay/straw in the box & that will encourage mama will create her nest around it!
