This was very interesting to see. Regardless it is a simulator and you can land on your keisters and come out alive, it is in some way comforting to see the preparations for a scenario like this. (Which I hope I never will have to face). Good work, Pranas!

After the second turn of the landing gear gravity extension lever, there are no possibilities to restow the l/g doors. For that reason, pilots should expect a decrease in climb performance in the event of a go around even after resetting gears' normal operations (assuming no mechanical damage). In addition, nose wheel steering is inhibited. The doosr don't significantly affect a belly landing. He has performed the correct procedure ;)

At the end, Pranas forgot to remove headphones and just thrust them off his ahead into the cockpit. Anyways, I actually fond this entertaining. I like how everything goes bonkers when you shut the engines down. I watch this everyday.

My guess, only that I'm no pilot, is that the spoilers mainly work by dumping the lift from the wings by disrupting the airflow to provide maximum weight and therefore traction to the wheels. Since in this case we have no wheels, having additional control over the attitude of the plane for as long as possible would be far preferable.

Here after PIA 8303 crash, when the landing gear did not go down, and the pilot attempted to land, scraped and damaged the engine, went for a go-around, and crashed on top of a residential area.... I don't think they followed this checklist 😯😕

I guess he was all concentrated to recover from stall caused with high rate of descent while trying to descend from more than 5000 feet *(instead of 3000 feet as per SOP) for landing. May be he didn't realize that there was a malfunction with the landing gears but no one at Control Tower noticed and informed him either :(
@ZunarZulfiqar
@ZunarZulfiqar 4 жыл бұрын
@@FruityFarterSG You can hear ATC ask "Confirm, you'll attempt a belly landing?" Just before the pilot declared mayday. I'm pretty sure ATC was aware of of the landing gear malfunction. It could be that the captain tried using g-force to try and force the landing gear out. Also, you can hear the master caution warning going off in the background when the pilot was talking. If I'm not mistaken, that was a landing gear warning the same as in this video at 10:49. We don't know exactly what happened, so I'm just guessing.
@FruityFarterSG
@FruityFarterSG 4 жыл бұрын
@@ZunarZulfiqar they asked because on the first landing attempt the plane landed on belly as the gears failed to retract, they must have thought that the plane still has the same issue along with failed engines. Only pilot knew that he was able to retract the gears later on (as can be seen in video clip) but since he already had a more serious issue to deal with (failed engines) he didn't inform the control tower about it. If you listen to the audio the pilot doesn't say anything in response to their question about belly landing

Pranas followed the correct procedure. The gear lever has no effect on the landing gear doors after a gravity extension as they're unlock permanently, so it wouldn't work.

Really cool! But, this landing actually doesn't seem very realistic. The plane stops way too quickly. From touch down to a complete stop takes just about 14 seconds. Aluminium against asfalt/concrete have much lower friction than rubber (tires) against asfalt/concrete. Just search for "belly landing" at KZbin and watch videos of real ones - the plane just keeps sliding "for ages" before it finally comes to a stop (a lot slower than in a normal landing). I didn't saw at fist there is a video cut during the "braking" - but it still looks like it slows down very fast (wich caught my attension). Also there is another video of the same thing with a B737 where there is a tree line at the side of the runway. That realy shows the very short stopping distance (even tho the video is cut)
@jg63776
@jg63776 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there is less friction, but there is a larger surface area on the belly of the aircraft compared to the small tread of the tires, which would create more friction. Correct me if I’m wrong.

When the plane first makes contact with the tail down, most of its weight is still being carried by the lift of the wings, so contact is not as bad at first. When the plane settles, most of the landing stress is going to be carried by the engine nacelles and the wing roots, which usually have more structural reinforcement-they're carrying most of the stresses from thrust and lift forces, respectively, in normal flight. If you came in flat or with the nose down, then most of the landing force is going to be pressed against the nose, caving it in and risking more damage/death. Plus, in all cases, you want to contact the runway with as little vertical speed as possible, which you can only do with a nose-up attitude anyways.

This landing was more berserk than normal because you left the gear doors open. That is some scraping done!
@fmsgpp

They would not deploy due to the hydraulic loss of pressure (it takes a while), but because they wouldn't obviously recieve any signal of the main landing gear struts compression by the LGCIU.
@juliashenandoah3965
@juliashenandoah3965 Жыл бұрын
Interesting, so this is the REAL procedure what to do when the gear does not come out. KZbinrs just land as usual in XPlane or other simulators and well... that´s it. No difference between a landing with gear out. But in real Airbusses the engines must be shut off and fuel cut-off, and discharge the fire extinguisher systems in the turbines after coming to a halt. I personally would have done another safety feature to prevent the whole aircraft from intense burning when something goes wrong during the landing: Try to fly until the kerosene tanks are almost empty. Empty tanks are no danger.

Silly question here, would'nt you at least cycle the gear lever at least once just to be certain before belly landing? And #2 would it not be somewhat smoother to at least try to close the l/g doors before the crunching?
@eddievhfan1984
@eddievhfan1984 2 жыл бұрын
1. Cycling the landing gear lever would not do much good in this scenario, since if the wheels are unlocked but not dropping, there's likely some kind of physical blockage going on. 2. Once the landing gear doors are unlocked via emergency gear extension, they can only be closed again after maintenance, since they're likely completely disconnected from the main gear extension/retraction mechanisms as a result. Typically, if the emergency gear extension is working properly, the doors are unlocked, the gear up-locks are released, and gravity forces the gear out of their wells and pushes the doors open.
@farismufti
@farismufti 11 жыл бұрын
Ok, that is simple. First, spoilers during no landing gear landings are a little dangerous, thats because a pilot doesnt want the plane to exert more force against the ground and to reduce drag against the ground,and to reduce damage and danger, even the QRH says so. And second, EVEN IF the pilot arms the spoilers, they wont deploy after touchdown, becasue as you saw, he shut down BOTH engines before touchdown, so the spoilers wont deploy because of lack of engine hydrolic power. reply please

There is no reason to compare as both do the same and both make good planes. Both did major technological innovations. Boeing made a successful airliner first but airbus did the fly by wire and other innovative technologies first so both are just equal.
@kevinkokalari5242
@kevinkokalari5242 8 жыл бұрын
+Power Well Its up to the pilots. Both companies are different. Boeing planes are more "manual" and mechanical and let the the pilot correct mistakes while the airbus is usually simpler to start and has smarter flight computers and auto-pilot and the computer correct a pilots mistake, but if there is a fault in the computers, the airplane can make corrections that are not needed like in the Quantas a330 flight in 2009. I've heard that it's harder to fly an airbus because the controll stick is very sensetiv if you compare to the classic yoke of the Boeing planes.

Okay "bugy bug" it seems you've learnt alot from flight simulator, sadly, what that game has taught you is wrong, please wikipedia some more about the "bs" you're trying to correct from an experienced pilot before actually doing it, do not forget that some facts in the internet are posted by people like you that make their researches on wikipedia/yahoo answers, therefore, people without a valid point. Next time dont get so cocky about topics you dont know anything about, and next time you ask a flight attendant to let you in cockpit, ask the pilots instead of looking around like a wierdo. Good luck buddy.

john strauss no no no and no sir.... I have just checked Wikipedia, your source...."When an airplane is BEING LOADED, the capacity for extra weight in the wing is greater than the capacity for extra weight in the fuselage. Designers of airplanes can optimise the maximum takeoff weight and prevent overloading in the fuselage by specifying a MZFW. This is usually done for large airplanes." of course it reduces the beinding moment in flight, BUT you never rip off your wings with no fuel !! where did you see that ? otherwise you do not declare a mayday due to "running short of fuel" but you say "mayday mayday mayday, we hav eno fuel, we gonna lose our wings ".... QUOTE in wikipedia any moment they say you rip off your wings in flight lol The MZFW is the maximum wieght that the plane can stand, with pax on board, with no fuel in the wings. That is the definition sir.

john strauss please find and show me a link that says we can lose wings in flight if we fly with a MZFW :) this Mass is a limitation on ground not in flight.....and please stop with experrienced pilot, it does not mean antyhing nowaydays especially with all these "game boys" cockpit. As you know about AF447, they were 3 in a cockpit, all experienced, and they did not detect a stall...be humble. ;)

You want to land at the airport so the airport's emergency response can get there immediately. It would be harder for them to get to you if you landed on the ground elsewhere, and the ground is not as level and well-maintained as the runway so there could be all sorts of things that rip the plane apart there.
