Lollies are an important indication of how you have changed as a human being. As a child my favourite was the cider lolly from the ice cream van, because I could pretend I was getting drunk. Jock the ice cream van man used to visit Sandown High at lunchtimes for a while in the early 90s. I used to get a Lyons Maid Turkish Delight (about 40p I think) nearly every day, subject to my cash flow and Jock's supplies. Mint Crisp or Toffee Crumble were decent fallback options. These days a white choc magnum is my go-to, although gallingly expensive.

A Fab was an early favourite lolly, then mini-milks as per MrEd below. Finally any sort of 'ice pole' during senior school hot summers, when the bus ride home was unbearably hot. You could get a few of them with 20p I think. the trick was to roll up from the bottom as you ate to get all the melted bits. What was in the blue ones? Also yes, the pampas -swinger story was around when we were kids but I wont Google it on a work laptop, for now. And congrats 117, i was so close to winning a holy Marek relic, the IoW tea towel.... When I was in secondary school during the mid 80's I used to get 1 whole pound a day for dinner and bus fare. So I used to buy an off brand Feast from the ice-cream van in the school each day for 20p instead of lunch and walk to and from school. That way I would have £4 at the end of week and combined with my pocket money I could buy a Spectrum game every two weeks.
@cdwc

I used to do a similar thing with my tuck shop money. 10p a day, I would have a Mars Bar on Friday for 12p or something and then save the rest up. Occasionally I would waver mid week and have to buy an Caramac (I think these were around 8p).

I've always liked the chocolate Feast. Tried to buy one on a walk last summer - the van was called Olly's Lollies - how could I not?! They were sold out of the mint flavour and I proceeded to lose half my ice cream when it fell off further down the road! This was after opening my wallet and accidentally spilling the full contents of coins in to my rucksack... Even after spotting the sign that said 'card payments are accepted!' It was a nice idea, though. I honestly can't remember the price. But hopefully less than a chocolate bar today. Congratulations to that Cool Dude!

Wow. I looked it up and the vaguest memory of them appeared in my brain. You can't beat the old ice cream boards. Lord Toffingham was a brilliant name.

Marek, as a subsidiary question perhaps you should ask how many Cool Dudes gagged/boaked/retched as a child as the lolly stick tickled their epiglottis when they blew down the base of the lolly wrapper to release it from the frozen confection within?
