In the US, corporate rights expanded earlier than voting rights for women. In 1886, in Santa Clara County vs the Southern Pacific Railroad the SCOTUS ruled that the 14th amendment applied to corporations, granting corporations the rights of citizens. In 1978, the Court styled that corporations had the right to free speech , i.e. spending money to support their political candidates on state ballot initiatives. In 2010, with the Citizens United decision, all restraints were removed so that billionaires could literally buy their candidates and the election of their candidates. Bribery in politics was totally legalized. Any possibility of democracy foreclosed.

Jill Stein, an anti-war candidate, was my only candidate for President in 2024. She recently disappointed me by calling Vladimir Putin, "a war criminal". She revealed total ignorance of the war against Russia that the US began in 2014 with a coup against the legal government in Ukraine. Nevertheless, I voted for her by absentee ballot a couple of days ago, because she would not be elected and her positions on other issues needed support, It was not easy for me, because I admire the courage and good judgment of Pres.
