How did you come up with that 354 lbs number? 1700 in/lbs = 141.6 ft/lbs 141.6 ft/lbs = 192 N.m 2 inches = 0.05 m 192 / 0.05 = 3840 N 3840 / 9.8 = 391 kg 391 kg = 862 lbs That's 862 lbs of free hanging weight at 2 inches away from pivot point, at 4 inches it's gonna be 431 lbs. If Cold Steel can only hold 354 lbs at 4 inches away Benchmade win according to physic and math.
@robinvandenbergh91848 жыл бұрын
+delavega92 how can you just say how much its gonna be at 4 inch?.....just by dividing the amount in half....are you for real? .according to physic and math.....yeah right..
@robinvandenbergh91848 жыл бұрын
+piet jansen and cold steel apllies pressure much faster and also does high impact tests...totally different ball game. i like benchmade...but tri ad lock is simply the best choice...especially when you look at total benchmade line and total cs line...overall you cant say benchmade makes stronger locks and keep a straight face

Wish at the end they show a list of previous test so we can pause and make a comparison. That would immensely help in choosing one model over another for the tasks we mainly use our knives for, eg, I would never need an over built Adamas as my edc. I’m a 940 guy and even then I barely reach its potential strength.
@barrywirth18079 жыл бұрын
The average person isn't going to apply extremely slow gradual pressure like that. I would like to see a realistic test with a quick jerking motion.
@hugeshows8 жыл бұрын
+barry wirth A quick jerking motion with enough force to break the lock or knife would simply knock it out of your hand instead. The only way a person would ever have knife fail in their hand is if they are applying leveraged steady force.

@TheScotchaholic2 жыл бұрын
@@pruthvirajbhople Exactly. This test is great for revealing constant pressure lock strength, but in the real world, least likely to happen. Shock strength tests reveals the locks ability to stay in place and durable for more likely induced stress - like you mentioned, batoning or the infamous Cold Steel over swing test with free weights, that have exposed many "hard use" posers in lock design.

Would be interesting to see how it takes it when the pressure is applied to bottom side of the handle. I know if I had to put anywhere near 130 ft pounds of pressure like that on a knife I would be cussing my edge out for being so dull.

@Osprey19945 жыл бұрын
Other companies have done similar tests although not as controlled I would say, and results continue to suggest that the Axis lock is one of the stronger locks. Problem with what you are requesting is that Benchmade cannot take another companies knife and test it against their own without permission most likely. I know Cold Steel would happily offer up their knives but I don't know about Spyderco and definitely not SOG (do people still buy their knives?). Spyderco compression locks are very strong too.
@xx05jurtos5 ай бұрын
It’s not the steady pressure that makes the lock fail, it’s the whacking which is much more a realistic use-case.

THEZOMBIEBUNKER Cold Steel uses MUCH inferior steel, and is made in China. NO THANKS. I'll support America every single time, over a country that hates us. May not make sense to you right now, but it will someday. China is NOT our friend, and the companies that are in bed with them are trash IMO.

Funny every video I see is benchmade failing then fanboys saying how good they are. My coldsteel code 4 has better steel better lock it's only down fall made in Japan not US.i love buying US ,but I'm not buying inferior knife overpriced just because it was made home. When benchmade makes a knives worth $200dollars I'll buy one but I never found a need for more $100 anything over that is not worth it to me even a m390 knives can be found under $100 and USA made but no lock is better then coldsteel also I've seen benchmade break at blade a few times. Just my feeling on old video
@pbs15164 жыл бұрын
What? I've never seen a cold steel lock being so strong… Doing the math, it corresponds to around 400kg of hanging mass applied at 5cm of the pivot, which makes around 900lbs at 2 inch if you prefer. I've never seen a cold steel video with so much hanging weigth capacity, they're more about 2-3 times less, and it Always end with an explosion of the knife.
@richardhenry19694 жыл бұрын
@@pbs1516 funny every axis lock failed both ways before a tri-ad lock an they don't cost a ridiculous amount like benchmade for a production knife. @Wildwestwrangler4 жыл бұрын
The benchmark is cold steel's triad lock designed by Andrew Demko!!!
@TheScotchaholic2 жыл бұрын
@@Wildwestwrangler Exactly. As equally important as this constant pressure test is, similar to the Cold Steel free weight hanging test, SHOCK testing like Cold Steel does with the over-swing free weight test, will test a lock's ability to be durable and stay in place. Emergency wood batoning for survival, induces the most realistic stress on a knife's lock. The Tri-Ad is a proven lock refinement on the already well time tested lockback.
@tolikzt1011 жыл бұрын
:) The applying of soft force does not reflect the durability. So. to prove the real durability, you should apply full force in short time period. Nevertheless, this knife reliability was proved through many hard use tests and results are published by some russian members of russian knife community. Please refer/ This knife is 100% reliable and i going to purchase one.
@CoonassJedi11 жыл бұрын
Since when has the spine of a single edged knife been good at cutting? Second, while it is a nice data point, these lock strength tests arent as important as people tend to think. For the things folding knives are made to do, their locks are more than adequate. Even a knife like this or a Recon 1, there is only so much you can do with knives that size so it doesn't make sense to have a contest about how many hundreds of pounds a folding knife lock will hold. It should never need to hold that.
@jellzey11 жыл бұрын
Why not do the same test to a few commonly know knives? Spyderco Endura, Kershaw Blur, hell put a Sebenza in there if you want to make a point.
