It's always the uncomfortable things that give us health. Cold shower Better diet More sleep Meditation Positive mind set and so on Just shows how far away we have drifted from our natural state because we seek comfort due to what we see with other people and TV etc

Another benefit I experienced (I don't know if I'm the only one) is that my flow state really improved. Whatever I'm doing, it has not to be something I especially enjoy, it coud be something as simple as going to the supermarket or even watching a KZbin video, I'm so concentrated at doing it, to a point where times seems to pass so quickly. Even sometimes I think it's been only a couple of hours but actually it has been four! In a KZbin video you have this option to slow it down or speed it up. Well, my life is like it has been speeded it up X2. In my opinion that means that I'm enjoying life more than before, because only in good moments is where we experience that time flyes. Before starting WHM this flow state was something that happened to me once in a while, now it's happening more oftenly.

It would be nice to understand the relative importance or impact of all of these methods. I know they can work in tandem, but which on its own is most powerful for health benefits? There are only so many hours in the day, and you might be better off focusing on some more than others, including: 1. Diet (including fasting) 2. Breath work (SOMA and WHM) 3. Cold Therapy 4. Cardio exercise 5. Muscle/strength exercise 6. "Energy" exercises (Yoga, 5 Rites, QiGong, Tai Chi, etc - admittedly some of these impact strength)

yes agreed, however I think it is possible to work them all through the day without too much effort...i do...ill be creating a program which will help with all that. For me Breathwork comes first, since its psychological impact helps you do the rest...

Hello Dave, I wanted to say that I appreciate your videos very much, your factual honesty and your straightforwardness. Thank you very much. I have some questions; maybe you can help me: - Is there a maximum of IH dosis beyond which the training gets dangerous? I do a daily 6 to 12 minutes of IH periods ( WHM/Soma, my SpO2 going down between 60 and 89). How much would you think I can do to get a maximum of benefits without danger? - Are there recent scientific studies of this kind of IH self training? Thanks a lot for the answer. Keep up the good work!

HI Jean, thanks for the kind words and the question. Firstly I should state the following, whilst I am trained as a Breathwork instructor, I am not medically trained, so my ideas and advice here are based on my own experience, please remember we are all different, especially from a physiological perspective. So in answer to your question, have you read the pubmed report 'The Therapeutic Potential for intermittent hypoxia, a matter of dose'? if not, do, its worth the read. Secondly, i personally do regular (not always daily these days) bouts of 20-30mins of breathwork in the morning that includes IH. If i want to go crazy then on the occasion i might do an hour (the soma awakening session is an hour by the way). I have not ever had any ill effects from doing this and i have retained a healthy mind and body, since my start in 2017. I dont yet know of any further studies, however this is another one thats worth a read, indicating the use of IH in the medical industry: post.health.ufl.edu/2018/12/03/when-less-oxygen-heals/?fbclid=IwAR1V_8os99uU0XGgs7QXIIVibtjtlRj1UMZP8oMDYdQknr-vP1DBDwm1wnY

Thank you for your help Dave. I know the articles but I am looking for a more recent article concerning kumbhaka. The one that I find best is Dr Prakash Chintamani Malshe' s "Nisshesha rechaka pranayama offers benefits through brief intermittent hypoxia" published in 2011, but that one you probably know. Nothing more recent concerning the implications of breath suspension seems to have been published since then. Stay safe Jean

Blessings. Love finding your channel. Funny you mentioned the gender disparities. Perhaps you are correct but you possibly should know that there is a completely different and seperate WHM worldwide group specifically for Women ONLY. Most of us came from the ‘standard’ WH group and found it extremely ego driven, competitive and appallingly sexist. ( I don’t include WH himself) . So once again, as in many levels of history and society, there is a very large enlightened, group of women who support and succeed without the need to belittle or compete with others. There are thousands who hack the ice each morning with an axe to practice our cold therapy etc...

Hi Dave. Thanks for your informative videos. I am starting on WHM and I am doing about a bit over a minute hold on breath. ( First round about a minute. Second about a minute and a half. And the third, I usually drop back to a minute. ) If I just stay at this beginner's level, instead of trying to lengthen my hold time, am I getting most of benefits? Or should I force myself to increase my hold time to get more benefit? I am more focused on doing this everyday than trying to force myself too much. What is your advise? Thanks.
@EvolutionofDave
@EvolutionofDave 3 жыл бұрын
Hi James...yes never force it...ive personally not focussed on breath hold time...you will get the benefits regardless of time. Obviously if you were training as a free diver then it would be different but so too would the type if breathing technique... and in fact getting to 4 mjns with a free diving technique isn't too difficult. If I were you...just focus on making this a regular exercise...try soma breath too if you haven't already...mix it up...experiment with it...but don't push it...good luck

This is very interesting subject for me as I have been doing soma for around 8 months now. I've completed the 21 day protocol and looking at the instructors course. How ever I felt the need for a change up so the last two days I have done the WH method. Amazing results but it does feel strange to do so much mouth breathing when in soma it may be done but in small doses after a build up of nose inhalation and mouth exhaling. WH definitely is very energizing but do feel that my heart rate is faster during the day after WH but I did do 9 rounds in one go 😂 maybe why. What's your favourite out of the two methods and do u think they both have the same benifits? It's a but confusing I need to read a bit more into the WH method it's new to me where as I've done quite alot of soma. Will say I feel super charged today and super present in my mind I think WH method gets you quite quickly into the present moment
@EvolutionofDave
@EvolutionofDave 4 жыл бұрын
HI Sarah, yeh i thinik 9 rounds is a bit excessive...both WHM and SOMA offer the same breathing benefits from the intermittent hypoxia, so if you prefer one over the other thats fine, since youll get the same results from a physiological perspective,. However, when you apply the isochronic tones and the guided meditation from the SOMA you get a few more gains...if you try a 4-5 round soma then you see really interesting results too. The WHM is obviously cold therapy and yoga too of course, so there are extra bens there too....im still one for mixing it all up...depending on time constraints and mood...thanks for the great comment...Dave

Hi Sarah. I am the opposite. I have been doing Wim Hof breathing for a few months, and I like it a lot. I recently discovered SOMA, and I like it better because of the music, and the guided meditation aspect which was missing from WH. It might just be that we are both exploring new things, and dong that tends to be more interesting until we grow accustomed to it?
@Springfeild4
@Springfeild4 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Dave Thanks for your thoughts and knowledge I’m just beginning to learn about the wim hof method and your insights are a good addition to the wim hof site and I have not yet looked into SOMA but I will on your recommendation thanks ! Just a thought I wanted to share on perhaps why more men engage with the method than women I think it’s a deeply rooted biological need to challenge yourself. In tribal times a pregnant girl would leave the tribe in labour and endure physical extremes that she may not survive if she came back she was celebrated Males had initiation rites that the may not survive to become a man. The menstrual cycle offers a monthly opportunity to endure sometimes extreme pain. So women have pain and discomfort programmed in their biology. Perhaps just a complete in researched idea I had.

Any thoughts on people with low pressure and breathwork? I hear much about how good it is to lower high BP but what about people who have low BP to start with. Could it go dangerously low?
@EvolutionofDave
@EvolutionofDave 3 жыл бұрын
Well i always have to start this with - I am not a Dr and this is only my opinion, however no i dont think it would make it go dangerously low. My wife has POTS, a condition that causes an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system and subsequently her blood pressure goes both up and down. Breathwork has been shown to harmonise the autonomic ns and bring it back into balance, which is why my wife has started to practice this. Its worth stating that its the gentler versions of breath work that would work best for someone with those conditions - so the slower 4:8 breathing pattern for example and of course, no force on either inhale or exhale

HI Leandro, I think its more a case of tolerance, ive personally been ok at -10C and I know that Scot Carney climbed Mt Kilimanjaro with Wim Hof which would have gotten to at least -20 or so.and Scott didnt have a great deal of training prior.....Wim is a different beast altogether, since he's done Everest as well, but he has acclimatized for most of his life...so he's not normal.
