Thanks for reviewing a lower end trim level! I'm tired of seeing all the Plat/1974/Pro reviews. I'm too poor to afford any of those. Lol

I prefer a base model. All it needs is some bigger black wheels and tires. U have analog gauges that won’t go down like all the digital clusters. Plus u save 20-30 grand in unneeded options.

After 3 weeks and 1000 miles on my 2024 Tundra (I Force 3.5L, TRD Sport 4x4, Sport Premium package, Crewmax, 5.5 bed) consider the following: Pros Electronic steering is great, tightens at highway speeds, looser at low speeds Transmission very smooth Excellent power at low RPM, Sport mode is truly something that will get your attention 19.2 MPG average over a mix of highway and town Quiet at highway speeds Seats very comfortable Transfer case shifting very smooth (4H, 4L, etc.) Materials seem to be good quality, seats, molding, trim, etc. Handling is very, very good for a truck (steering, cornering) Cons Had to refit a piece of the window trim that was loose from factory, unacceptable QC from Toyota on this 22 gallon gas tank is a loser - Toyota really screwed up with 22 gallons being the base tank size Radio does not mute when using Apple Car Play for voice messaging, music/radio keep playing HAVC controls are not ideal, hard to see in the daylight On fan speed 3 and above there is a whistle noise from the defroster Auto start stop must be disabled every time you start the truck, should offer a way to permanently turn it off Cannot comment in reliability or durability in just 1000 miles.

I would just go with the TRD off Road package but upgrade to either the limited or platinum, I would go with a mean off road look as well as a luxury off road pickup

In 2007, I bought a new Tundra SR5 double-cab 4x4 with the TRD package for $29,250. About ten years ago, I installed a cold air intake which bumped the 5.7L V-8 from 381 to 385 hp, and added about 1 mpg to the original 17 combined. It now has 240K miles. The 2024 version of my truck costs at least $20K more, has two fewer cylinders, only about 5 more hp, and gets only 1-2 mpg better gas mileage (if the "claimed" mileage actually turns out to be actual). Most of the "improvements" seem to consist of electronic doodads that I somehow managed to do without for the first 30 years of vehicle ownership--it is possible to drive a truck in reverse, even with a trailer, without a backup camera. I hope the new Toyota turns out to be as durable and reliable as mine, but I have a hard time seeing what all the extra money buys over its 17 year-old counterpart.

Not to mention the new SR5 has no power seats and no power in the back of the console for rear seat. And no pull down armrest in the middle rear seat. Pretty bad how they downgraded that model.

Yes, Toyotas are much more expensive now. But the twin turbo v6 in the Tundra was only used in the Lexus LX prior to the Tundra. So it’s been battle tested in a 100k SUV. Toyota only goes with reliable and proven drivetrains which is why they are in service across so many models for a long time. This drivetrain will be no exception.

Appreciate your input...I have a 2021 Tacoma right now and I'm looking to get a full size truck.. From what I'm seeing with the price.. I can get a fully loaded 2015-2021 tundra V8 Or I can get a base newer 2022 tundra...not really sure which way to go..planning to keep this truck as long as possible.. Also not sure about the durability of those twin turbo Not sure which way to go..the older tundra is durability king..for sure but the newer one has al the modern convince..

rear seating looks tight. With that said I would go with the SR5 double cab short bed and add an aftermarket 3: lift with 34 to 35" tires to really give it a look. I would black out any chrome as well.

It's a double cab.....F150s supercab,GMs double cab are all the same....tight. It's all I buy,I'm more interested in hauling stuff in the back and need the 6.5ft box. Adults that sit in the back are short trips. Great storage for me. As of 24 Ford won't let me build a supercab the way I want so I've probably driving my last F150.

Here in Canada the Tundra SR5 averages out to $60-64K while overstocked ram dealers are pushing 1500 classics with the Hemi 5.7 out for $52-55K. Toyota dealers out our way are basically running off of a Build-to-order only platform and barely stocking vehicles.

I just pucked up an SR5 in solar octane for 58k. But i came with the convenience package and the TRD off road package. So far the truck is pretty beast. Im just trying to figure out more of the festures since its a long learning curve for me since ive been driving a 2007 gmc sierra and its also my first 4X4. My only complaint so far is the truck could have had a little more leg room in the back. I understand there's two intercoolers for the turbos so you need that room up front. The truck pulls pretty hard and it rides very well. I just hope this truck lives up to the toyota name of reliability.

I also just got a new 2024 Tundra SR5 with a ton of features and packages for $58,453 (traded in my 2022 Tacoma TRD Off-Road). I was waiting for the 2024 Tacoma Sport, but I was 89th in line and who knows how long it would've taken. This will be my 6th Toyota truck since 2011 and they have great durability and resale value.

This is exactly the type of truck that I will be cross shopping with mid-size trucks to tow our small camper and to haul camping gear. Do I go with a more mid/upper trim midsize that prices in the mid/upper 40s or opt for a more capable but more basic 1/2 ton? Great review. Thanks!
@dantimber
@dantimber 8 ай бұрын
Moderate towing? Get a 1/2 ton, whatever brand you like the best.
@deanmay338
@deanmay338 8 ай бұрын
@@dantimber our current camper (Casita 17 Freedom) only weighs 2,900 lbs loaded, so any midsize truck can handle it. However, we have thought about a larger molded fiberglass camper that would range from 4,500 to 7,000 lbs GVWR. If we decide that a “larger” egg camper is in our future, we will definitely do a 1/2 ton truck.
