When I first moved here I had a $220 1br condo in a highrise then I found out I could get a 2 br house for about the same price. I then realized I didn't need all that and opted for a nice clean one room thai apartment. Its always quiet because most Thais work long hours and rarely home. Good cheap food abounds. I use a rice cooker if I choose to cook and bought a 1500 car that runs great and the air is Ice cold. My total expenses for a month are around $300usd. I have my clothes made by a local tailor and have never had a problem here over the last 3 years. And Thai people are just very grounded. 1

@Pepeekeo8083 жыл бұрын
Second hand scooters break down. A rented one "never" breaks down. If there is a problem with your rented scooter, you get another one. There is no "down time" while the scooter you own is being repaired. You are not responsible for repairs or maintenance. Avoiding these head aches is worth the price of renting a scooter.

What I noticed in your home is you don’t have a gas stove. You can purchase a stove and ask one your acquaintances to give you a gas cylinder. Even induction stoves are better than the electric cooker.Your bum gun is choked. Poke it’s pores with a safety pin or needle. Buy an ordinary cleaning acid bottle and clean your toilet appliances and washing sinks (ceramic )with a little acid on a brush. You can employ a char-woman to clean your utensils and sweep the floor. But don’t leave any valuables or cash outside.

@jimmychhakchhuak32572 жыл бұрын
Yes, 14800$ US is too much indeed. I think 167$ US (12000 INR) would be a fair deal. As for the scooter and AC, it's a total rip offs. You can get an average scooter (like shown here) or even better in 12k-20k price range and also for the used AC for 300$ US (24000 INR) is a bit too much considering there are new ones available from (1999 INR) onwards. Probably some commisioners involved here and there. The best thing about India for a normal foreigners is that a 400-500$ US can get them to a luxurious lifestyle here in North East of India or in the east (West bengal) where everything is 10-25% cheaper compared to the south or North even on the same regional context. NE rural areas are more affordable/cheaper than Northern/southern rural areas and same goes for the urban areas aswell. All in all India is one of the fastest growing nation and also most affordable and budget friendly country when it comes to Purchasing Power Parity despite the GDP per capita or even to an extend and consider nominal GDP it's still very affordable to live and settle. Just for example a loaf of bread here cost 20-50 rupees while in the US or the EU or UK it cost 5$, 4€ and 5£ respectively. 150 rupees equivalent of 2$ can get you a full meal while western countries full meal ranges from 10$-200$ even for a roadside vendor on cart or a normal restaurant.

Kerela ,Delhi, Goa and many other places have good health facilities. Some places in rural areas of Maharashtra like ganpatipule and Mahabaleshwar r also good. Why dont you google pay or make online payment to rent owner instead.No need to withdraw huge amt cash and carry cash in person which might be risky.
@roja74269 ай бұрын
However, I don’t think the whole of India would have the same prices for rent, etc. you should mention what part of India you are paying for these things. In that way if one visits that part of India they know what to expect.

Thinking about India. I was raised by a southern Indian family. Are you able to buy prime cuts of beef in India? Considering the cow is a sacred animal.
@bjenks4 жыл бұрын
Some states eat beef, like in Kerala and in the Northeast. I haven't seen any prime cuts
@SharkFishSF3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. But where he lives, it's Tiruvannamalai, a sacred city, so meat is kind of taboo, but available in muslim areas. I get good organ meat from nearby muslim neighborhoods, it's good price.

Hi Benjamin, hope you're doing well :) I appreciated your video, super informational and I especially loved the tour of your house! I will be moving to Pondicherry soon and was wondering how you found this house, or ways to find houses for rent in Pondicherry. Did you go through a broker, find it online or simply walk around and look? i would be very grateful for your help on this, thanks :)
