Everyone comes here to talk about Bernie talking to the goths... but can we just acknowledge his body language at 20:38 and throughout his conversation with that guest. He, without hesitation, shares the microphone with her when she makes a reach for it, completely allowing her to lead the conversation and ask/answer questions. The other guests on episode did not make the same reach for the microphone - so this just shows how naturally good willed he is, to instantly pass the power to someone who wants to speak and give them a voice. I rarely speak about politics but I think this shows he would make such a good leader. He is in touch with people and has been for years. Go ahead and watch Biden or Trumps body language, and see how conniving and unnatural it is.

'Affordable' medicare for all? It's even less affordable than the affordable care act and it would costs 30 trillion in 10 years.
@jaredprather8060
@jaredprather8060 4 жыл бұрын
@@aj7978 Simply inaccurate. Single Payer healthcare would cost at least 3 trillion less than the ACA over the next 10 years. And that info comes from the Koch brother, a conservative source, so the real difference would probably be even more favorable because conservatives have reason to show biased results. Moreover, even if Single Payer did cost slightly more, the societal benefits of a healthier, happier society would increase economic welfare and efficiency. We spend tons of money on curing the populace that would be better allocated to preventative care that would be provided by Single Payer that isn't provided by the ACA. Not to mention that small businesses would no longer be required to provide healthcare to employees. Ultimately, Single Payer is both cheaper than the current system and it will provide better economic results than the current one.

That was so cute at the end when Bernie interviewed the little girl whose mother ran for alderman and Bernie gave this adorable child credit for giving her mother the idea for a theme park in Burlington that was just too much! Also, interviewing those two golf / heavy metal teens was a real flash back for me being a hardcore rock and roll teenager back in the early 80s even though this was a little later I could relate to this. This man has a heart of gold and has devoted his entire life to public service and truly is a public servant not just in the job to line his own pockets if anybody does not believe that they are on another planet in in an alternate universe or simply out of touch with reality. If we don't make Bernie Sanders president then we should hang our heads in shame the rest of our life...Bob M.

Bernie Sanders back then spent time mingling with the people and fighting for them and 30 years later still does. Union rallies, community shows, speaking with people directly. policies that support people and benefits their families, NOT just the 1%. -medicare for all -get money out of politics -free/more accessible public colleges -fighting for minimum livable wages (Bernie Sanders was the one responsible for getting Amazon to increase it's minimum wage for its factory workers) -inalieable voting rights -1% billionaire establishment to pay their fare share of taxes

This video clearly shows how Bernie is an extraordinary political leader, and a person who respects others. Unlike most politicians, Bernie took the time to LISTEN to the people, to the voters. Bernie did so with respect and interest in what the two youths thought, liked, and felt. He asked them about the significance of their dress style (something that was relatively new, uncommon, and different back then in 1988) and he asked them about their views on government and their education (where they went to school and how they liked it). It is remarkable that he let them speak, and he listened. He did not cut them off. He did not interrupt. He did not try to push his political views on them. He listened. How many politicians do that? Bravo Bernie! Bravo Mike (and young woman with Mike). It is also cool that Mike is a Bernie supporter today, for good reasons.

I lived in Burlington all-too-briefly in '17 and I went to the mall a lot when exploring the town. It was two levels and kind of maze-like, but that was only because it was being renovated at the time. (I haven't been back since, but at the time I really wanted to take in the ~aesthetic~ before they changed it lol.) The underground was kind of dark in places and the stores got a bit more unusual as you went further and further in-there was a massage place that seemed to specialize in feet and an eyebrow waxing salon 🤔 Man, I really miss it in a way. It's crazy to see how busy it is in this video. At least the streets around it are a super lively outdoor shopping street with some cool local stores and galleries, so it makes me feel a it better for enjoying the dead mall vibes.

Keep in mind that after the Soviet Union dissolved, there was this massive wave of anti-communism that came afterwards, some justified and some not, and the neoconservativism of the 80s and 90s imagined that public is bad and private is good and privatised by ideology. So anything the government did was "socialism" and therefore bad

They were really on point given their age, location (small city, not NYC), and not having the Internet to deep dive into this stuff. They identified as anarchist and (non-authoritarian) communist*, criticized the Soviet Union and the other Leninist/Stalinist style countries. I actually wish Bernie had gotten more into a discussion with them but I assume maybe he was being cautious as if he started agreeing and getting too into ideological talk, his political opponents could try to portray him as some sort of "anarchist/communist/Marxist" undercover punk deviant, while his show seemed more about talking about issues the poor and middle-class faced and solutions with the purpose of getting people to vote in their best interests rather than based on hate, fear, and distracting wedge issues. *What most people think of as communism now is Leninist/Stalinist-rooted totalitarian state capitalism. Lenin and the Bolsheviks and those that supported them were afraid the revolution would be destroyed before they could implement actual communism and didn't think Russia was advanced enough, so they came up with the idea of the "party of the vanguard" leading the way and protecting the revolution while it prepared to make the transition later on. It's debatable if that would have actually happened if Stalin had never gained power, but the countries that modeled themselves after the Soviet Union were heavily influenced by Stalin and how he ran the country and later Mao as well. Basically, all the countries thought of as "communist" are just in that first stage and either call that communism (it's not) or don't but still call their party communist, which is just as misleading. Capitalist countries know these countries do not appeal to their citizens so they play along, calling them communist/socialist/left as they know this will scare many people away from any form of socialism.

That's by design. The capitalists control education funding, and the last thing they want is a well-educated electorate because such an electorate would realize how badly the capitalist class exploits the rest of us. By controlling education, capitalists control the future. To create a better tomorrow, we need to take the reigns on education today. And Bernie is the candidate who can get that done.

I'm a conservative but I always liked Bernie, although I don't agree with his overall political ideology he has his heart in the right place. I believe he honestly wants to help people and wants the best for everyone, but sadly in our current political system the two party system is designed to coerce people to pick a side, fight the opposition regardless of the positive changes they make and defend the complete titheaded ideas their party does, often embarrassingly to it's constituents. In an ideal world is beliefs would make sense in reality but sadly best intentions mean nothing. Bernie is very important in American politics if (but certainly onlu) for raising particular questions and creating a dialogue over very real issues. I just wish him and the entire left never focused on minorities and identity politics. It's a very cancerous tactic politicians use to placate their base and misdirect tensions and valid questions away from their own shortcomings and lies. Too bad there isn't a third position in politics...

Bernie's biggest accomplishment is shifting the Overton window in the US to the left. Which, when you consider stuff like the Red Scare, McCarthyism and the cultural opposition to socialist ideas, is a pretty big deal.
