The manga for that Red Ranger isekai made me change my plans for The Last Horizon. A specific plot point in Red’s backstory (no spoilers) was exactly what I was going to use for Raion. But he did it first! I had to rewrite Raion’s history so people didn’t think I stole it, but I wept bitter tears.

To give receptionist girl credit, her logic is actually pretty sound. As much as being a high tier adventurer is basically free money, its unstable, has no benefits, the jobs are based on other peoples whims and needs, people can easily fucking die, you get essentially no privacy because you're basically a celebrity, etc. She's a receptionist because its exactly the opposite of those things. Stable, decent pay, benefits, retirement package, and i think she also likes the uniform.

Right. If she becomes a famous adventurer, her quite days will be immediately over. She'll have tons of people bothering her about joining their party, challenging her to duels, asking for mentorship, etc. And worse, if she gets too much fame, she'll get the attention of the government/powerful people that will try to try to "make proper use of her talents." She 100% sounds like she doesn't want nothing to do with none of that shit. Just do her 9-5, clock out, reap benefits, and enjoy her private time. Being a self-employed/independent contractor doing dangerous work, and worse, getting famous for it.... is the opposite of everything she wants.

In the manga you got those three panels decomposing the movement where you can see that the guy barely has time to move as Sakamoto is just unraveling his weapon and punching him. In the anime, it's like a blink and you miss it moment where it looks like the gun was just destroyed when the guy was hit. The voice acting is perfect, the animation is surprisingly really nice, the story looks interesting and the jokes lands everytime... It's amazing and I really recommend it !
@Kolumbidae12 күн бұрын
It actually looks pretty damn good too, and manages to make cute, clever use of even its less animated sequences! Which it isn't even actually _lacking_ in to boot, with multiple cuts right off the bat really bringing us into Claire's/Kenzaburou's headspace or emphasizing the sheer elegance of her OP cheat skill from another world, Professional Salaryman. Even the most basic instances of them had me giggling, and I was in tears by the end of the episode. It's downright precious and I can't help loving almost everyone so far, with those I don't not having had enough focus for me yet. Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan treads comfortably familiar ground in between Kenzaburou's comically inept attempts at villainy being hardcore Dad Modeing at the heroine, or the classic attempts to bully or therwise flaunt ostensible superiority really being ways to uplift others and help them grow as a result of that Dad Mode, yet it's so slick and has such strong comedic timing that it could do all that for all I care and I'd be happy. (To wit, I know for a fact that it won't, and I'll leave it at that.) The chemistry is believably precious, to say nothing Anna's increasing infatuation bringing its own sort of misunderstandings; specifically the good kind, wrought either through coherent contrivances, how the characters actually exist and are in lieu of needing to establish a joke so that a punchline can be made, or both. I'm all in on this one, I really hope more people give it a chance. I really really dug I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History recently (which I am so thankful Mr. Basement Man pointed out in the video), on the subject of akuyaku reijō works given the anime treatment, despite its... uh, frankly painfully bad animation for an animated work. If I didn't love Villainess Ojisan for multiple reasons I could be feeling pretty bitter about a show I wish got a treatment even half as good as this is already, and which I can't help but feel got passed over as a consequence of subgenre uptick - despite not being nearly as actually saturated as what he pointed out in this very video - alongside painful animation, despite being a thoughtfully constructed and surprisingly heartfelt story that much like this one really recognizes the genre space it works in to tell a story of making the best with one's best. Take this as a tacit recommendation too, for anyone willing to stomach the caveats and interested in Dad's Been Reincarnated!, aside from select other complaints (mostly about Duke Seeker) I do think it'd be worth the time.

The thing with akemu md is that, as far as the 3 episodes so far they are actually pretty solvable for people who have some medical knowledge. I am not a doctor but my sister is and my mom was a nurse. I have been expsed to ALOT of medical stuff, and while the first 2 EPs were a bit esoteric, i was able to call the reason for EP3 mystery as soon as the actual video was shown. So the mysteries are currently solvable by the viewer, which imo makes or break a mystery story. But it is definitely geared to people with some medical knowledge.
@UltimusNovus12 күн бұрын
*spoilers for episode 3* Really, the mystery was really obvious in the third episode. I was rather baffled how these doctors didn't think 'epilepsy' the moment a patient reports experiencing neurological symptoms as a result of watching a video.
@esorb133412 күн бұрын
@@UltimusNovus EPISODE 3 SPOILERS I think it's because the doctor learned about the video in the context of it being a "cursed video." A patient saying that she felt a bit strange after watching a video is different than a patient saying that she was cursed by a video. Especially because they were teenagers, and so their words might not have been taken seriously due to their youth and the fact they were girls. The mystery itself wasn't too hard, but that's because the audience didn't disregard the most important clue. The most important thing about the episode was not that Takao was so smart for figuring it out, but rather that she'll investigate any possible lead, no matter how frivolous it seems.
@elizabethmcwhorter344512 күн бұрын
@@UltimusNovus it actually makes a lot of sense, because the head of the psych ward has a persistent habit of immediately jumping to a diagnosis, and then outright refusing any evidence that might contradict her conclusions. we actually saw this in the flashback, where her response to getting called out a misdiagnosis was to ban the student who called her out from the psych ward. this is a problem that is *extremely prevalent* in the medical field. near where i live the oncology head at a hospital in a neighboring city got canned for pulling the same shit for decades with his cancer patients, including providing chemo to a man he never actually biopsied who never had cancer in the first place, and *euthanizing a 15 year old with severe mental health issues*. as for house waifu, between not having consistent access to the patient and also being an actual goddamn professional, it makes sense that she'd hold off on verbalizing her own diagnosis until she had concrete evidence
@Qualjyn12 күн бұрын
Episode 3 requires a frankly absurd level of suspension of disbelief. We could plausibly say the head of the psych ward just jumped to conclusions, sure. But the correct conclusion is so obvious many viewers with no medical training were able to make it. But neither of the two girls did. Or any of their immediate family. Or any other staff in the psych ward. Or anyone else who had a mysterious accident, or anyone in their orbit, or any medical professionals who treated them, or any journalist who covered the rumors. It's too implausible that nobody at any point made the connection, when the connection was THIS obvious.

@@Qualjyn what's obvious to one person may not be obviousus to another. I was only able to pick up on it because I've had multiple friends/classmates/coworkers with seizure disorders, including being in the room when a classmates had a seizure with extremely similar symptoms. Wow! I was expecting Sakamoto Days’ anime to be the next Jujutsu Kaisen, especially since the combat in the manga is as well coreographed as in the JJK manga. TMS should have put more work in this anime. I mean this is the same company that made Lupin the Third: Goemon's Blood Spray. And the was expecting that level of animation here :/

The power of friendship has always been one of my favourite tropes because ‘finding strength and peace through love and community the end point of main character character arcs so the only real difference between a Kamen Rider Fourze and a Shinji Ikari is that Fourze was enlightened first

Okay this convinced me to watch Medalist. I was on the fence for that one and yeah, seems good. Also happy to see Honey Lemon Soda feature on the list. A good shoujo romance is always nice change compared to the more typical highschool romance aimed at guys, because it's just nice when the main boy is actually desirable in some way. Not unheard of in shounen/seinen either, but in those series it's typically enough that the guy is not awful, which often means he's just kinda bland.
@Commenter83912 күн бұрын
If you like the Medalist anime, I highly recommend checking out the manga. The anime left out a lot of stuff that made the emotional beats hit harder. Plus the art is absolutely beautiful and I don't think the anime quite does it justice. That said, the anime is also a good watch on its own, quite a miracle considering the studio behind it
@AlmaWade-nc3cy12 күн бұрын
I couldn't get into it, because it follows the exact same character tropes of every other shoujo romance I've tried. Shy helpless MC who gets picked on is saved from a life of loneliness by a handsome (emotional unavailability as a bonus) jerk who randomly chose her as a person to be nice to. And shounen romances have tired tropes too, ofc, can't deny that even if I wanted to, but most of them at least try to be funny about it. The shoujo romances almost always try to appear dead serious about everything that's happening and that kills my enjoyement when it's the exact same characters everytime. There are only like 3 exceptions that come to mind that made the tropes barable, either by being funny or by being set in an otherwise interesting world. I've seen and read a lot of romance stories aimed at women and I just don't get the obsession with emotionally unavailable dudes that have only one face expression with an occasional smile. Sorry for the rant, I'm just frustrated that HLS turned out to not be any different in how serious it's trying to be and had to vent it out somewhere.

I thought Elf-san already had an anime and I was late to the party when I went through the whole manga during the holidays! Nice! It's a very cool mix of fantasy and slice of life. They go to legally distinct Disneyland at some point! And the main character isn't super OP, has a fun mobility based build, but he is underestimated a lot because he looks younger than he really is in the other world. I'm also reading Red Ranger Isekai and that story just GETS what makes a good Sentai battle! The villains are basically Monsters of the Week with powers you need to puzzle out the rules to before you can defeat them and it gets pretty satisfying.

Every time there's a major oration in Flower and Asura, I watch it, rewind, close my eyes, and just listen. The effects might improve it, but the oration is still stellar. I also really like how the flashbacks to A Tale of Perishing has thicker linework and just... hits the aesthetic of older anime. Maybe not perfectly, but it def tries, and that's appreciated.

Holy crap. I gotta thank you for the recommendation of Zenshu. It's gorgeous, funny, and sweet. I absolutely love it. One thing you missed that the artists absolutely deserve all the praise for is designing all the fantasy characters with a touch of that 90's style vibe, just like the would be in the anime she watched as a child. That's such a great subtle touch.

My wife never watches anime with me but I was watching Houseless Dr. House. We both called out that the detective was definitely Colombo even down to the mannerisms. Zenshu was shocking good. I didn't know how they would pull the premise off but they have such a good take on it. Also you have to love that they shortcut all of the fantasy tropes and then add personality to those tropes. You like the character and give them depth so so fast.
