The color of the egg yolks have nothing to do with being in Asia. Eggs in the US can and do look orange and taste wonderful. It all depends on what the chickens eats and their breed. My next door neighbors has 10 chickens and the chicken's egg shells are green, brown and Easter egg... all of them have orange yokes that are much better than grocery store eggs.

Idk if it's the same in the whole Europe but here in France I've never seen yolks that are so bright. Like just today I ate the eggs from my uncle farm and they were yellow. I've never seen orange yolks. For me I just feel your eggs are radioactive or something 😂 Also in French "yellow" and "yolk" is literally the same word. Like are you feeding your chicken with uranium or what ?.?

@Erin Loven It has become practice in some Asian countries to feed chickens marigolds. Marigolds contain a chemical called carotenoids which gives the petals a bright orange color. When a chicken eats the marigold petals the yolks of their eggs become orange colored too. Marigolds are not likely for flavor though. Different types of bugs and vegetables matter will strongly help with pleasurable flavors.

Common way to get those nice dark yellow yolks is as simple as feeding chickens Marigolds. It's stupidly simply to affect the yolk color, like to get that really orange-red color you can feed them pumpkin, tomatoes or chillies.

Not really true; simply have your homegrown chickens eat what naturally appears to them as food in the grass and around the garden. I have personally observed that when chickens are left to their own choices of food source, their yokes are robust and color, delicious and flavor and the strength of their shells is suggestive of their overall health. When we choose eggs of chickens who lay healthy eggs as the source of our breakfast or other meals, we benefit from the quality of their natural choices. As a result we have better quality eggs which nourish us in a manner designed to more heartily strengthen our lives.

on the topic of egg yolks, color of the yolk is directly tied to the chicken's diet, specifically carotenoids. If the chicken's diet is full of carotenoids (a pigment found in orange/red things such as tomatos, pumpkins, corn and a lot of shellfish), the yolk will be more orange. It does not necessarily have a large effect on flavor. It's like what happens when you eat something wtih an artificial blue/green or artificial red color and the color of the #2 changes.

The Okonomiyaki place was our favourite, along with a really good Izakaya that was just around the corner. People think that its the chicken that makes the yolks more orange. It kind of is because its what you feed the chicken. So in the USA if you wish to have those nice orange yolks you raise the hens at home. You feed them a diet rich in carotene and or rose merigold etc and you treat them cleanly and nicely and you have orange yolk. Chili and paprika also help but dont worry about burning their mouth as they dont have those receptors. Do not wash the damn egg then its also shelf stable lol

FYI, the entire list of meals is: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Supper, Dinner, and Brenner. Some people call Brenner 4th meal, but that's just Taco Bell propaganda. The most well known Brenner was actually made famous by St. Nicholas. Every December 25th he would celebrate, traveling door to door, eating a variety of cookies and drinking copious amounts of milk. It was dubbed his annual Yule Brenner.

Mikey - as many are saying, it really is what they eat that defines the color of the yolk, or at least I'm convinced of it. I lived on a farm for about 25 years, as a sort of 'gentleman' farmer, if anything. I knew real farmers, sometimes worked for them, so I know better than to think I was much of a 'farmer', but it was 30 acres of different sorts of pastures and woods, surrounded by at least another 200 acres before you would find a fence, and certainly not one that would stump a chicken. I always had a flock of between 12 and 24 hens, and 2 roosters. Mostly, they ate all the bugs they wanted and whatever else chickens peck the ground for, as they were truly free-range, every day, from sunrise to sunset, in lush surroundings. Yolks as orange as a sunrise, no matter the breed, no matter the rest of any other conditions. Guaranteed.
