Fried Pickle Challenge!
• Best Fried Pickle Reci...
Y’all are in for a special treat today because we’ve got a special guest in the kitchen. She’s been practicing her fried pickle recipe and we’re going to have a fried pickle throwdown to see who can stand the heat and serve up the best fried pickle.
Enjoy the video!
Kent’s Fried Pickle Recipe
Vlasic Dill Pickle Spears, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon buttermilk powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup warm water
1 cup all-purpose
1 tablespoon (or to taste) Red River Ranch Original Seasoning, or all purpose seasonin
Cornmeal
1. In a small bowl combine buttermilk powder, baking powder, cornstarch and water.
2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and seasoning.
3. Pat the pickle spears with a paper towel.
4. Dip in the wet mixture, then dredge through the flour mixture. Repeat.
5. Roll in cornmeal.
6. Fry at 350- 375 degrees F. until golden brown. Cool on paper towel or wire rack.
Smokey Honey Sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1. In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients together well. Cover and chill for 30 minutes or until ready to serve.
Shaylee’s Fried Pickle Recipe
Large Kosher Whole Dill Pickles, sliced into thin rounds
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon (or to taste) Lil’ Red’s Seasoning or all purpose seasoning
2 eggs, whisked
1 cup all-purpose flour
1. Generously pat the pickles with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
2. In a small bowl combine the bread crumbs and seasoning.
3. Dredge the pickles through (in order): eggs, flour, eggs, breadcrumbs.
4. Fry at 375 degrees F or until golden brown. Cool on a paper towel or wire rack.
Cool Ranch Dipping Sauce
1 packet ranch seasoning
Sour Cream
Milk
1. In a small bowl whisk the ingredients together to taste and to desired consistency.

I think it’s awesome that you’re keeping the kids involved in cooking. Like you mentioned, so many would rather be in front of the tv in stead of learning a skill. Keeping them encouraged and feeding their excitement is the way to go. Thank you. God Bless you and yours~Lisa

I'm all about encouraging kids to get involved in the cooking process. Especially kids who take an interest in it. My nieces and nephews love to help me in the kitchen when they visit. Personally , I think they just like to help lick the cake spoon ;) . But in all seriousness I enjoy watching them work together as a team. Laughing and having fun in the process of cooking & baking. And I agree that food brings people together and also builds good memories. Good Video Kent!! Best line from it: " you can back away from the table now"

Now I'll have to try this. One thing I know for sure, I will use Claussen brand pickles in the grocery's refrigerator case. They have more crunch and better taste than any I have found in 7 decades of pickle fandom. To meet halfway between these recipes, I will buy the whole kosher dills and cut them in slices about 1/2" thick. I will deep fry most of them, but reserve a few slices to experiment with in my air fryer.

I can't begin to explain just how happy this video made me. Shaylee killed it with the chips instead of spears. Living in Idaho you learn cooking, frying, boiling and just plain heating canned or pickled food and lemme tell ya girlie you got it right with simple batter and let the ingredient under all the batter speak for itself mmmhhhmmm. Gramps is awesome and pops is OK, there are two types of people in this world... bread and butter sweet and salt brine dill!
