Reviewers seem to like to test towing prowess at 55-60 for relatively short highway distances...ok here it is. But stay tuned for the real test, across country at 70-75 mph on the interstate.

Great review, thank you. We drove from Florida to California last year with our 2017 Tundra SR5 5.7L w/ new Michelins towing our 19’ Airstream (under 4,000 lbs loaded). Took I-10 West and mostly interstate 40 East home. We averaged 13-14 mpg at 65-70 mph. As to the break controller, when we were researching buying the Tundra I read several concerns and it bothered me being that this was a Toyota but in the 5 years of towing our Airstream we have never seen or felt any issues with it.

I love my tundra, I have a 4wd limited 2014, been towing my travel trailer about 6k lbs very well. I’m about to tow it from Southern California to Tacoma Washington and I’m sure it’ll get me there fine. I have 108, 560 miles no problems. I just wish I had that 38 gal gas tank, I had to add a brake controller also. I tow with S4 though per the owners manual

The only thing I'm not too fond of is the Integrated Brake Controller. It's works o.k. contemplating getting a Tekonsha proportional brake controller

I have a 2018 double cab. The mpg reading on mine goes the other way and is always about 1 mpg more than I actually get when I calculate at the pump. I need to find out if there is a way of recalibrating it.

Sometimes I do beeter than the computer, sometimes worse, but always seems to be within about 1 mpg

Are you towing in Drive or S4, S5, or S6? My 17 Tundra doesn’t barely know I’m hitched, I get 12 to 13 MPG towing my 2020 Escape 19 fibreglass travel trailer. An aerodynamic trailer makes a huge difference.

Towing the 4,000lbs Trailmanor I would get 12-13 mpgs and about 15 towing at 65mph. I tow in D, but got to S4 or S5 when I get a lot of incline/decline or gthrough the mountains.

Can my 2020 toyota tundra 2wd tow like that safely? Or do i need a 4wd?

Absolutely, very rarely have I put my tundra in 4wd when towing. You should have increased payload numbers with a 2wd. And, the increased hitch weight loaded to the rear axle will allow it be much more stable except for extremely deep mud and snow. The only time I would have stopped with 2WD in all my travels with a trailer was towing across TX during the 2021 Snowpocolypse.

How much is the lance weight?

I had two, 1995 GVWR = 5,700, but newer are 6,000 lbs. 2375 was 7,200 lbs

Where did you get the idea Tundra is 3/4 ton. I have a 2016 4x4 TRD and the cargo capacity is around 1,400 pounds, 3/4 ton are more than double my cargo capacity so no clue who told you differently?
