@@Uathe It may work just fine inthe U.S, the dutch including myself (especially students) have the tendency to go into quiet lecture mode when we try to really pay attention to the story. Live listening to english can still be a bit more tricky than OL. I can just rewind it on here but I'd be trying to pay attention in that room. That's why some stand ups think it's not working but in actuality the dutch are trying to pay attention. One australian comic even remarked on them laughing when they didn't get it, which is another of the polite things they do. I think there is a lot of things in the mix which make some people think this is an 'awkward' moment: 1. Dutch people don't really easily laugh out loud even though they think a joke is funny. 2. We do have the laugh short and shut up listen because we don't wanna miss anything or be the loudest in the room. (we don't wanna stand out negatively because people in the Netherlands WILL call you out for it in a harsh and honest way) 3. With the sex and pot tourism it is a very double negative feeling we experience. Because we are not proud at those two things and they overshadow what else we have or could be known for. 4. Since we are a small country which just has usually less to offer for material we kinda have a 'sigh response' to these kind of jokes being introduced by people who are not related in any way to the Dutch culture. See it as an over-exposed response and not that a joke didn't land or we don't like such jokes, more of a 'I've heard this one yesterday, the day before that and last week' so it just has less of an impact. I do really love Gainmarco Soresi! But as a Dutch peron it is kinda sit through the sex and pot jokes to get to the good parts of the show! Again not saying it is bad material just overly exposed to those kind of jokes!

I'm not surprised at the lukewarm reception of the happy ending segment. Amsterdam residents (at least the type that goes to a show like this) kind of look down on sex tourists, especially the ones that seek out clandestine sex work. Wasn't at the show, so this video is all I have to go on, but it honestly felt like you mistook the city's international reputation for its local culture in this case. No love lost, though!

Most people are tired of tourists only talking about weed and sex work here so I get why you didn't get many laughs on those topics. Next time try to get a feel for your surroundings and talk about a couple weird buildings or interactions you've had with natives while you were there. I think there is something shameful about paying someone for having sex with you, knowing they don't have any desire for it. I would feel so bad if I was having sex with someone who doesn't want to. I don't care if it's their job, I think it's a very sad job and I don't want to participate in that. There is something terrifying about this amount of capitalism. In my country and my moral, sex is not something you should be able to pay or sell, just like organs, blood, gametes, love or friendship. It's something about humanism and the limits we shall put on money.

If sex workers have more rights, they can get on to more jobs, but some people (very few) have actually said that it can be a fulfilling job if they are respected and have a lot of choice. I think in an ideal world it should be up to the person, and it's the society's duty to make SURE their dignity and safety is not jeopardized because they engage in sex work. Also, it is unfortunately some people's last resort to get out of some really bad positions. Ultimately it's the workers who need the support the most.

Lots of people enthusiastically choose to go into sex work and enjoy it because it can be fulfilling on top of keeping them financially stable. @elizabethhatesyoutube
@elizabethhatesyoutube 11 ай бұрын
@@FirstNameBunchANumbers "lots of people do it enthusiastically" does not really fundamentally change the moral issue. if it's wrong to sell and buy sex, it's still wrong if everyone involved is happy about it. a person's body and intimacy are not or rather should not be products, ful stop imo. doesn't change that sex workers need certain protections or that for instance in the united states it should be decriminalized but these are material, practical policy issues that are in my opinion separate from the moral dilemma that is the sex work itself.

Sex is not always about love or an intense emotion. Sometimes it's just a need. Sure, many sex workers mostly do this job because of some kind of trauma or desperation but it's a job. Don't see anything morally wrong with buying or selling sex. It's just like a service.

Some European people don't laugh even when they find something funny. I know it's strange, but I think in some cultures, especially ex-soviet places they were taught not to show too many emotions. This is in someone else's words who's from an ex-soviet country. Anyway, I lived in Europe for a bit, and when I would tell a joke or when I laugh, i'd ask why no one else was, and they'd say oh we didn't? It's funny. I really enjoyed that, I didn't realize that I didn't laugh. They can mask themselves really well without even knowing it. I'm sure the crowd enjoyed your show, whether they laughed or not. I'm from a non ex soviet country and I would say that that's a thing here as well, so probably has nothing to do with being ex soviet. Also like the other commentor pointed out, netherlands and germany aren't ex soviet countries either. There is some other reason why many europeans don't laugh, perhaps because in some cases it can be considered inconsiderate so that kind of gets stuck even when it's ok to laugh. Meaning that laughter is often loud, people can get paranoid about who you're laughing at and a lot of people can see displays of emotion as inconsiderate to people around them (including PDA). This is at least my experience in my country.

@@lauralvw8445 I didn't know Americans did that. I mainly heard people from Europe when I was there for 3 years tell me about the damage communism has caused to locals who still carry out some of the communistic culture today. I've been to Germany, Czech Republic, France, Italy, and I've chatted with people from Austria, Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. Lots of people are pretty frozen there and don't have a great sense of humor. When they saw how cheerful and smiling someone is they think they're drunk or stupid. It's a cultural thing. You just don't smile in public or they'll think you're weird. Not everyone is like that. I'm a teacher and I was teaching Czech students something from a British English File textbook and they had a page on there describing the same thing I'm talking about. There was an audio file of a couple, one from England and one from Russia and they talked about how you just don't go around on the streets in Moscow smiling or saying good morning or hi. It's frowned upon by some people.
