@@fartquaviasdingle7876 the tldr version is that Ireland was so poor back then that there was next to no livestock for food, so they relied on potatoes as their one and only food source. The Famine started when a disease that was called the Potato Blight got into the soil and would make any potatoes it touched straight up inedible. Since their food source went kaput a lot of people died and Ireland's population nearly halved. Cory isn't wrong in a weird way, it's not that the Irish then couldn't grow potatoes, it's just that the ground was in a state where it couldn't grow anything
