I absolutely LOVE and appreciate those small snippets out of the whole convos since I rarely got the time to listen to the whole episodes.

Ever since my kids could talk, part of our bedtime routine has been asking each other "What was something that made you happy today?" We ask our kids and our kids ask us. Every single night.

I do this with my kids too. I love the idea of them falling asleep with a positive thought/memory.

'delight' is like a 'gratitude surprise'

Morning gratitude list helps me shift from the anxiety/edge of panic mode, release drops of oxytocin and it's grounding me in this real world. It works, whatever the name and what you thinking/saying without even practicing it 😊

Thanks for sharing that. My mornings/waking up have been very hard lately. Probably especially because of going through depression. Anything to try might help.

"thank you for delighting in him even though he's dead several years now" struck me as a sentence lacking in delight lol

Delight is a Buddhist practice called " sympathetic joy" where you rejoice whenever you see an act of virtue or anybody happy and rejoice in that.

I still prefer greatful & gratitude. Feels more permanent & reinforcing.

☺️ “delight” sounds like “positive thinking”, noticing the positive, good or happy things and learning to focus on them more than the negative. Writing down the positive things/delights does seem like a good way to train ourselves to be or think more positively.

Delight word is so so better than gratitude. Gratitude journalling seems so cringe

Whatever, I get what they're saying but still, sorry ..."delight" sounds just a corny to me as "gratitude."

Maybe the answer is in the corny things 😄

Maybe just focus on the practice not on the term 🤷🏻♀️

Corny sounds delightful to me ❤

I can see it being that way. It could probably be substituted for calling these things a treat (like the phrase “what a treat”) or just “good” or even “so good”. Whatever feels right.

I think you’re focusing on the negative😜….. maybe delight in the fact you have a cell phone that works and has internet connection and you can listen to this clip😜

I don’t believe this. Happiness is from mental freedom. Free from needing to be accepted, free from the internal “shoulds” and full acceptance of how things are with no resistance. Then you’re ready for gratitude. Simply starting by writing down three things you’re grateful for won’t do much imo outside those 5 mins you write those down.

New term, old practice/ philosophy. Word salad HS.

🙄 The Ignorance. Most Dharmic Religions have a formal gratitude practice. The semantics are irrelevant. These practices are thousands of years old.
