Assalmu Alikom people! Greetings of peace,
It is our first night in Osaka, Japan and we decided to try Koryu, a three star Michelin restaurant that focuses on Kaiseki style dishes. This is a short travel video that focuses on the dishes we got to try at Koryu.
Kaiseki is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner with small dishes that are served. The multi-courses will usually have seafood and meat courses. The seafood is typically sushi and a grilled fish and the meat course will showcase the best type of beef, Wagyu/Kobe
To book the restaurant, the Westin hotel in Osaka booked our reservation two months in advance! Since we are Muslim, we asked if they can order Halal kobe beef and they said yes! They also said that they can serve us a dinner that is only seafood. However we wanted to try to Kobe beef and that was great they could get a Halal cut for us.
This was our first three star michelin restaurant and we were definitely excited to try the food. The reason it is a three star michelin is because the creativity Chef Matsumo has to execute his dishes. For example, the sashimi Meguro tuna was paired with a suvee egg yolk that was soaked in a sweet soy sauce. Imagine trying red tuna sashimi with an egg yolk!
The kobe beef was also marinated in walnut and grilled over charcoal right in front of you while you are eating the other courses.
The dessert was very simple and delicious, and the whole experience was unique and not too heavy. They have a lot of different non-alcoholic drinks available that they always refill. The service was great, they explained everything in the dish and the pace of the meal was perfect.
Y&S Rating: 4.9/5 - I would have gave it a 5 but I think the congee could have been a bit better.
It was a great way to start our first night in Osaka and the food only continues to get better in Japan!
