I've spent years switching from being a stomach sleeper to a (primarily) side and back sleeper. It's still hard to deny how comfortable it is to sleep on my stomach sometimes, but I have back pain waking up when I do.

Im a big stomach sleeper and recently started having neck problems but when I sleep on my back I get sleep paralysis and the demon stands on my chest so I just have to deal with the neck issues

I recently went from three thick pillows (whatever way I was lying) to one on my side and none when on my back, it's amazing the change it has made to my sleep.

I was staying in the same room in the dormitory with my friend who was studying physiotherapy. He told me that my sleeping position was very bad and that my body could not relax during sleep and that I would not wake up feeling rested. I followed his suggestions and learned a few more tips online. Now I wake up much more vigorous and rested. At the same time, my posture is in a much better condition than before. For example, for years I used a pillow that was too high for my body. More precisely, I didn't think this was important that much, but it was important.

To start I sleep on my side with a small pillow for my head, a long pillow for my knees and one between my arms to kind of hug something or my armpit feels pressured. Then switch to sleeping on my back and try to put a pillow under my knees and keep the one under my head. I’ve found out my hip muscles hurt a bit if I sleep too much on one side.

Generally I can't fall asleep on my back unless I'm very tired. I love the position similar to first aid recovery position on the side. Very comfy. ;)

A pillow that was too high was my downfall and I've done it for so long. As soon as I bought a thin 2.5 inch pillow for back pain my sleep got so much better

When sleeping on my side, I have the underneath arm not pointing forwards with the shoulder and chest being squashed, but laid out behind me keeping an open shoulder and open chest.

I sleep with my bed’s head and got elevated. It helps a lot compared to laying flat. I would always wake up stiff and unable to move.

Dr dear, kindly tell me what if I sleep with my forehead stuck against the hard cotton pillow and lying straight on my tummy. And I have many problems from head to toe I admit.

I was a side sleeper with a small pillow until I broke my shoulder this summer, and could not lay on either side. My surgeon had me sleep, propped up at first on my back, but I was able to slowly slide down over time, and am now so comfy I doubt I will sleep any other way. Not moving during the night, no aches or pain.

What about people who have sleep apnea and use CPAP. We are told to sleep on our left side. I have some left hip pain.

3:33 I lay that position most of the time, but it isn’t comfortabel for my shoulder there. I sleep with 1 arm in a 90 degree angle underneath my pillow and the other arm on top of the pillow. Unfortunately it’s results in sleeping arms when I wake up. I know it’s bad but there’s no other sleep position I feel comfortable in.

I can’t sleep on my back. I usually sleep on my stomach and on my sides. I use two pillows in my pillowcase because I can’t sleep with just one- it’s too flat but I’ve been having back pain from that because my neck is hoisted up a little. I’ve tried putting a pillow under my back which helps but I struggle to get to sleep. I usually go to sleep around 10pm to be up for work at 4:30am however I’ll usually actually get to sleep around 11/12am so I’m constantly tired. I just can’t find a medium

I tried sleeping on my back with my lower back pain, and I tried to put some covers under my legs because I don't have extra pillows, but I keep feeling that tension on my lower back and it kinda feels uncomfortable sleeping on my back with back pain... At least for me. What should I do in this situation? Also I can't really fall asleep on my side... That's why I opted for the position on my back. I found out I can sleep like that when I'm really tired but with this back pain or better power back tension it's kinda difficult...

just sharing our beliefs, in islam as a muslim we believe most people get nightmares while sleeping on their back is as people lay like that when they are dead and facing God straight like that the angel of death visits in your sleep.

Good doctor, knows his job. Of course, it says how to sleep properly, not how to sleep comfortably. And there are times when the right way you can't sleep. So you have to choose your own.

I prefer to sleep on my side. I have trouble knowing what to do with my shoulders. I have a tendency to fold my body lengthwise bringing both shoulders forward toward the front of my body. Also, my torso sags to one side (I'm thin)--is this okay or should I somehow prop up?

My back is very arched, and I can tell by looking at myself at the Mirror, my stomach is like popping out, and I also seen that this has a great effect on my workouts. Handstands has been a struggle, and when I’m trying to do military press, I have seen that every time I try to lift the bar, for some reason my stomach just likes to pop out making my back arch. I’m wondering if anyone else is having this issue. And I’m a big stomach sleeper. So I’m also wondering if this has an effect on my back.

Is there a way I can stop rolling around in my sleep? Sleeping me is more active than awake me so it doesn’t even matter what position I fall asleep in bc it’ll just change as soon as I’m out.

even if i fell asleep in another position i would still wake up laying on my stomach so it’s irrelevant since im not conscious in that moment,only thing i could do is to tie myself and repeat this for months until it becomes natural

Good advice, but on a hard mattress the hip bone may hurt if one sleeps on the side for a long time, especially women.
