Bigger tyres and larger wheels also mean more rotational weight. Extra rotational weight slows down the acceleration significantly, especially for engines with not a lot of torque. It is so much more than just "some extra pounds (or kilos) in the car". Besides, semi-slick tyres are usually extremely heavy. There are some models that contain a lot of metal in their tread and technology. So usually, the tyre gets even heavier than the rim. And the further the extra mass is from the axis of wheel, the more significantly it affects the performance. Good vid tho!

Thats right,in spain we ride on the Mrk24 255/235 17” and on Mr2zz 235/215 17” or some 235 square,what you lose in punch,gain in grip and a much more docile behavior

@ivan_b2810 ай бұрын
Did you try 205/225? Would probably be equally fast, a 245 tire doesn’t perform as good on a 8’ rim.
@feral4mr210 ай бұрын
@@ivan_b28 no, only had those sizes. My track aw11 runs the same tyres and sizes but 8" up front with the 225 and a 9" up rear with the 245. Ar1's seem to have a narrow shoulder, fit the 8" rim without bellow, on the 9" extremely flush with the rim lip.
@ivan_b2810 ай бұрын
@@feral4mr2 oh then that’s fine, a 245 on a 9’ isn’t optimal for max performance but works good. Thought you had the 245 on an 8’, since you didn’t mention the 9’s

I found the 17" 215/235 combo maybe a bit too much for a stock 2zz, handling obviously makes a big difference compared to 15" 205 square, but the lack of mid range and the extra 5~6% longer ratio is also pretty much noticeable. A remap easily helps with 10-15hp on that range so maybe it can help to overcome that. For a stock 2zz I think the 15" 205/225 combo would work really nice for street/track use, but tyre choices in 225 are very limited in 15" in (s)pain
@2zz98 Жыл бұрын
It depends on wheel cross section tough. I run 17 205 40 which is pretty close to stock ratio.

In Your older video with TechnoPro Spirit visit, shop owner said that they run 15" 205 front and 16" 225 rear for street use and 16" 225 front and 17" 245/255 for track. I have a couple aw11's and a spyder. 205 square with ease, though run a offset like +25 if you like a flush look. You can also run similar size tyres to what's mentioned in the video. Both my spyder and one of my aw11's share the same set of wheels, 15x8 +32 with 225 45 up front and 245 40 up rear. Granted these are nankang ar1's that seem to have a narrow shoulder for the size. My track aw11 runs 15x8 +25 225 45 up front and 15x9 +35 245 40 up rear. Same tyres as other set of rims.

prev owner of my car swore only 205 would fit on kosei 15x7 in some hyper-common offset for mr-s (sorry don't remember. but it's "the one" everyone gets). this is on an 01 with Fortune Autos. Now it almost seems pretty far fetched. You sure you don't also have anything else you may have forgotten about? (arms? extensions - such as spacers - etc) I just can't love a bicycle tire on a mid engine sports car. If i could run 245s I'd be so much more visually satisfied and in the future I may be doing the monocrat kit should I be lucky enough to purchase it by the time I can afford one. really hate the look of a 7"

At a complete loss to know what to put on my 01 car. I was thinking of doing a staggered set up like the face lift cars (15" X 7" EB38 front) + (16" X 7 EB38 rear).
