I just made this cake and it is suuuuuper buttery and full of flavor. It's very dense but it's perfect for what I need it for. You don't need to shower it with simple syrup since it is already super moist and sweet. This is my new favorite vanilla cake recipe.

Thank you. I made this and it turned out amazing. The best cake I have ever made. The potato starch makes all the difference. One tip that might be useful for some. I used 3 x 9 inch Wilton round pans. I used cake strips on two of the pans and omitted the cake strips on another pan. The layers that used cake strips were perfection. I did not have to trim the sides. The pan without the strips were crusted. Cake strips with this recipe is unbelievable.

That's so awesome to hear RVC! Thank you for the great feedback! We actually love the crusted sides. They're the most delicious part of the cake! Haha! :) But so glad you loved this recipe! Thank you for letting us know! :)

@@krazykoolcakes Thanks for the tip. I will leave it on. Also, I didn't have brandy so I used rum. Was still delicious. I now bought some brandy for my next cake. Please let me know if you have an email so I can send you photos the next time I make a cake. Both of you taught me how to make a vanilla cake, tort a cake, fill it, and ice it with buttercream. So I’ve made this cake a few times now and it has been perfect and such a hit. I just made it again yesterday, but instead I made a marble version. I took 1.5 cups of the batter, separated it into another bowl, added about 4 tbsp of cocoa powder, about 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and three in some chocolate chips. I gently mixed it all together. Then I put the plain vanilla into my pans and equally added dollops of the chocolate on top. Then I very gently swirled it in. OMG...another level. So freaking good!!

Hello, I'm. making this cake in a 9 x 13 quarter rectangular sheet pan do I use just one batch or should I double the recipe? Do you know how many cups of batter this makes. Thanks so much for all your help. I really appreciate it.
@krazykoolcakes4 жыл бұрын
Hi Janet! Thank you for the question. I would definitely double it. The sheet pan should be filled halfway so when you're pouring use a spatula to spread it out nice and even and if you start going over the 1/2 way point, you know to stop. You shouldn't have a lot extra. I hope that helps! :) One batch typically makes 8 cups of batter. I hope that helps. :)

Thank you so much Janet! So glad you've enjoyed this recipe and the video. Very kind of you! If you'd like to make three 9" cakes that are a nice thickness then I would make a half batch more of the batter and fill your pans more than half way. That should be just the right amount. @krazykoolcakes7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Aleksandra! Glad you liked it! I would recommend baking 3 individual layers as we do in the video. This cake is nice and dense. Still super soft and moist but is "strong". Having said that, the higher you make this cake, the more chance of the cake "sinking" in the center. When you bake individual cakes like we do, they come out fuller and straighter at the top so you really have to do very little torting. I hope that helps. :) Plus, we've tried it. LOL. :)

Hi I’m new to baking, I hope this isn’t a dumb question but is it kid safe? Since it has brandy?

Thanks you guys for sharing your cake recipe, I've always admired the texture and height of your cakes on all your videos. I can't wait to try it but just what is the purpose of the brandy? If I don't add should I increase the half and half?
@krazykoolcakes6 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome Lydia! Thank you for watching! The brandy is just for some added flavor. If gives the cake a nice deep flavor. You can completely omit the brandy without having to add more of any other ingredient. I hope you enjoy it! :)

Buenas noches, puedo usar la harina de trigo all purpose y brown eggs? Y si los huevos son medium size, cuantos debo usar? Gracias y bendiciones.
@krazykoolcakes5 жыл бұрын
Hola Lisbeth! DTB! :)

I can’t wait to try this cake but I have 2 questions... I only have salted butter would this have a huge impact on taste of the cake...should I cut back on salt in dry ingredients? I also only have 9 inch pans...hoping to make three layers will double this recipe work?
@krazykoolcakes5 жыл бұрын
Hi Nancy! You can buy unsalted butter at the grocery store. Be sure NOT to use salted butter. If you follow the recipe it will come out just like this. A double batch will work perfectly for three 9" cake pans. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. :)

Hi I really love watch both of you baking and the recipes are wonderful. I tried a few of the them already thank you so much for sharing, my question is what's the best brand of potato starch please, I see different brand.
@krazykoolcakes7 жыл бұрын
Thank you K Lewis! Glad you enjoy our tutorials! We usually use 2 different brands. One we purchase from nuts online.com and the other is called Bob's Red Mill Potato Starch. This 2nd one is the one you can usually find in specialty stores like whole foods or sprouts, sometimes even in regular grocery stores. It's very inexpensive even to order online. But, having said all of that, any brand will pretty much do. :)

Dear Krazy Kook Kakes- So excited to make this cake recipe. Your demonstration and presentation was enjoyable and yet skillful for a successful , delicious cake. Question: Can this cake freeze well? I have found freezing has captured "moisture" into many of my cake recipes. Thank you...
@krazykoolcakes6 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Morinaka thank you so much! We are very happy you liked this tutorial! I personally never recommend freezing cakes. I find that it diminishes the fresh texture of the crumb. This cake refrigerates very well for up to 5 to 7 days. I hope that helps! Thank you for watching! 💕

Hi! First, just want to say your videos are extremely helpful and thank you for them! I want to try this recipe but I have a few questions. First, can you make different flavors out of this such as strawberry and lemon? Second, is it possible to make this cake a few days in advance and freeze it to keep moisture? Or how would you suggest keeping moisture? Third, I watched your video on stacking cakes and I wanted to know is it ok to ice your cake, add dowel rods then pop it in the freezer overnight or should the dowel rods be added after the cake has thawed? I wanted to check on this because I wasn't sure if adding dowel rods before freezing the cake would ruin it? The last question, is it ok to stack frozen cakes or do you have to wait till they are thawed?
@krazykoolcakes5 жыл бұрын
HI Stephanie, Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoy our tutorials. First of all, I don't ever recommend freezing cakes. Freezing cakes doesn't "keep" moisture. It actually dries your cake. This is only a vanilla recipe. There's a lot of good strawberry and lemon recipes here on KZbin you can make. We usually bake no more than 3 days before delivery and we only refrigerate. Again, no need to freeze your cakes ok? :)

Hi l am one of your subscriber do you take your cake out of the pan about 5min after bakeing while it is still hot
@krazykoolcakes5 жыл бұрын
Hi Helen! Thank you once again for being a subscriber. :) We take the cakes out of the pans after they've assumed room temperature. It takes much much longer than 5 min. Just touch your cakes and if they feel cool, it's safe at that point to take them out. Hope that helps. :)

Thank you and God bless you for this. I have been waiting for this recipe all these years. I'm in Nigeria and I am not sure I can get the potato starch, is it something I can make? I found a recipe on how to make it. Although it was in a liquid state. Also, can I substitute the half and half with regular full cream milk? Half and half will be quite pricey and hard to get in Nigeria. I appreciate you both.
@krazykoolcakes7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Adeola! I hope you enjoy baking it and eating it! Potato starch is readily available. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding it. You definitely want it in powder form like in the video. I wouldn't recommend any substitutions of any kind. If you do, then you wont' be making this recipe. :)

Hi there, what size pans do you use?? 3" deep, 2" deep, and what is your normal cake height?? do you use 3 cake pans for every cake??? thank you so much
@krazykoolcakes7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandi! We usually use 2" cakes pans. Once our cakes are torted, dammed and filled, the height is typically 5.5". Once iced it's closer to 6" in height. You're very welcome!

HI Amelia! Thank you so much for watching our videos! Glad you like the look of this vanilla cake (not sponge), LOL. :) For just one 11" cake pan (3" deep round) I'd be safe making a double batch of this recipe. You may have some batter left. Hope that helps! :)
