@@BrianTheCameraGuy Thanks again Brian. One more thing... Your Record Setting advice (at 3:48 in video) shows different settings to mine - mine has the six following options: 50p 50M, 50p 25M, 25p 50M, 25p 16M, 100p 100M, 100p 60M Any suggestion which you'd recommend?

This is because you are in PAL. PAL gives you 25, 50, and 100. NTSC gives you 24, 30, 60, 120. I live in North America so I need to be in NTSC. It all has to do with household light bulbs and their flicker rate. If you are in Europe then being in PAL will help with the light bulbs that you use. It prevents flicker in your videos. If you are in North America or Asia then you want to be in NTSC because the light bulbs flicker at a different rate. I would search the internet for the difference between NTSC and PAL to find out what is best for your location.

Wow Brian, you laid it all out! I'll buy an A6400 or 6600 tomorrow to shoot myself piano/singing from the corner of my tiny music studio. I use Logic Pro X for audio, Godox UL150 for light, and FCPX for post. I look directly across the piano into the camera [6' or 7'].The area covered is about 4' high x 8' wide with only a foot remaining behind myself and the corner wedge. I don't shoot stills and the camera will never leave the stand. Question1]. Can I control on/off/record from the Sony remote app on an Ipad and remain seated for back to back takes? 2]. What single lens should I get for a wide angle art approach and 'bokeh'? 3] Will autofocus/ eye tracking work in 4k video? 5] Can I get by with an A6400 and spend the diff on a great lens [ a prime or all round zoom]. I watch repeatedly and appreciate your wealth of generosity. Cheers and HNY from Vancouver!
@BrianTheCameraGuy2 жыл бұрын
1) You can buy a remote for real cheap. Here is a link to the one that I use: geni.us/BTCGa6400Remote 2) Hands down best lens for the a6400 or the a6600 is the Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens. You get a great low light performance and the bokeh is great. I still have this lens and use it all the time even with my full frame cameras. Here is a link for that lens: geni.us/BTCGSigma16mm If you want an even wider lens, then I would look at the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8. This lens is probably the best wide zoom lens for this camera. You will lose a little bokeh with this lens but you will be able to get much wider if you have a smaller space. Here is the link for this one: geni.us/BTCGTamron11-20mm 3) 100% the autofocus will work great and give you excellent eye tracking. It will be amazing using either of the 2 lenses that I am suggesting. 4) If you do not need stabilization, then the Sony a6400 is an amazing camera. I love using this camera mounted to a tripod. It has beautiful video and the flip up screen is amazing. Happy New Year from your friend down south! Let me know if you have additional questions.

The videomicro is a great little mic. You want to go into Audio Rec Levels, tab 2, page 2/9. Once you go in there you want to lower your audio levels so that when you are talking normal it just touches the -12. That is the peak you want when you are using your normal voice. This way when you get excited and talk louder you will not peak and ruin your audio. Does that make sense?

Omg you literally went over everything, even the mic! I have the rode micro mic and sigma 30mm lens. Looks like I have some of the basics that you are showing but I need to go over them (on a mission before my next recording) What’s the AF S/C for? I want to make sure the auto focus is on point especially for my hair content!
@BrianTheCameraGuy4 жыл бұрын
I thought you might like this video. That Sigma 30mm lens is really good. The next lens that I would recommend would be the Sigma 16mm. Gives you a 24mm look and allows you to get closer to the camera. Plus it might be the best lens for the Sony APS-C system. It is on my camera 90% of the time. As far as AF S/C, this is for auto focus Single shot (S) or auto focus continuous (C). AF-S grabs focus 1 time and then holds that spot. So if you move around, side to side or back and forth, than you run the risk of being out of focus. This mode is good for stationary product shots and mostly for photos. AF-C will continue to grab focus on a moving object. I am in this mode 98% of the time and 100% of the time in video. You want to make sure the camera tracks your movements so this is the correct mode when you are shooting something that moves, like in video. Any other questions?

I can tell you that the Sigma 16mm lens is my favorite lens with the a6400. I would get that lens over the 30mm personally. It is only an extra $100 US for the kit lens. It is not the greatest glass but it does offer OSS, stabilization and that can be helpful if you go hand held. I would recommend getting the kit lens too because you will have a zoom lens to start. Hey Brian, terrific video. Can I ask you if you ever noticed your background pulsing when the AF is on? I'm not sure whether it is a problem with my camera or instead the autofocus is so powerful and expecting movements that is doing that on the background (especially with lights). Is it just me or is a common issue? Since I'm basically gonna use it to make video of myself talking, I found useful to use the autofocus at first, and then when I'm focused then turning it off. But to be honest that's a bit annoying.
@BrianTheCameraGuy3 жыл бұрын

If I'm livestreaming to Facebook, KZbin, Linkedin and Periscope will it make a difference for 24 or 30 FPS? Thoughts?
@BrianTheCameraGuy4 жыл бұрын
Most live streams come in at 1080p to start. It depends on the look and feel you want. If you want more of a movie feel/look, then you would want to go with the 24 fps. If you want it to look more news or soap opera than you want either 30 fps or 60 fps. I am guessing that you are using the HDMI cable to bring the video to the computer. You should check to see if you have right now for your HDMI Settings. That is on Tab 5, page 4/7. I would set it to Auto, 60p, Off, Off, and On. Take a look at how it looks If I does not have the feel you like, then try 24p. There is no wrong or right answer as long as you like the way it looks.

You are welcome. I was probably going to do a comparison be the a6400 and the a7C. I was going to compare slow motion and custom keys.

Hi Biran great info man, but HLG 2 is great for he people don't know about color grading and color wheels, but I'm filmmaker and let me tell you the best PP to film videos in 4K 24 is SLog2 with Gamut 3 Cine because is perfect to not found any noise in the clips, you have to test and try it you don't regret it. Thanks
@BrianTheCameraGuy3 жыл бұрын
I will definitely have to try that. I was trying to make it simple for someone new to the system. Let me ask you, have you tried HLG3 and how does that compare to the SLog 2 settings you mention. I have tried to use SLog 2 but always found that my exposing the footage has not gone well.

I can't find your setting for "record setting". This feature only shows 25p 100M and 25p 60M. How to find it, Sir?#teamsony
@BrianTheCameraGuy4 жыл бұрын
You would need to change your NTSC/PAL Selector. That is locate on the 4 tab (the one with the brief case), page 2/7. You are currently set in PAL so depending on what country you live it it will make a difference. The lights flicker at a different rates depending on the country you live in. In the USA, we use NTSC, other parts of the world use PAL. Here is an article that gives you more information. www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/how-tos/buying-selling/the-difference-between-ntsc-and-pal.html#b

I’ve been using 4K30, but that’s just cuz my iPhone is my B cam and it’s doing 4K30.
@BrianTheCameraGuy4 жыл бұрын
That makes 100% sense. The only difference between 30p and 24p is the smoothness of the motion. Neither is wrong and a lot of people use 30p.

why in mine I only have 25p 100M and not 30p 100M?
@BrianTheCameraGuy4 жыл бұрын
This is because your camera is in the PAL setting. You would want to change to the NTSC setting on your camera. This gives you 24, 30, 60 and 120p in 1080 and 24 and 30p in 4k.

Why do we see your face more than the actual settings, you're just moving too fast and it is super difficult to see what setting you actually choose.
@BrianTheCameraGuy3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. I do tend to talk really fast and get very amped up for my videos. I will definitely slow down in the future.

I have to give you feedback. You went much too fast ... it’s so so annoying to stop youtube restart again.., constantly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Also you didn’t mention on tab 1 page 5 last item “ switch V/H AF area” .. it’s off on my 6400 .. it appeared to be on on your cam.. what should it be?
@BrianTheCameraGuy4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. I really like to talk fast, especially when I get excited. As far as that setting goes, I have mine set to "AF Point + AF Area". What other settings are you struggling with?
@pragmatist1654 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply.I appreciate it. There are many questions but one is when I select say a 4K video choice, I only have 2 choices, whereas KZbin trainers including yourself, had 4 choices. Why is that and can you trouble shoot that. Similarly, with HD I had less choices to select. I am having trouble with auto focus. I think I have turned it on where I should.. but I need guidance on ACTUALLY WHAT I DO TO GET IT WORKING. SHOW ONE EXAMPLE SLOWLY THEN ANOTHER AND SO ON It you saying ‘ here is how to ,,, and another different Thanks

I am not sure why your's would say only 2 options for 4k and 4 options for 1080. Are you shooting in PAL or NTSC?
@pragmatist1654 жыл бұрын
Brian The Camera Guy thanks Brian, I hear you, but don’t understand theses terms and what the effects are of making changes... and I saw a trainer make some millisecond reference to “ PAL and NTSC” This all relates to 4K ??? . But Brain, 1. where do I find making a change/s in the menus 2. What do I actually do? 3 why? and 4. What does it all mean? Pleased to hear back from you.
