Yes, $16,000 a month alimony is a lot of money, especially in the mid 80s. But Dan’s law firm was making something like $150,000 a month profit, IIRC. I’m sure he devised a way to hide some of his assets. What Betty did was horrific and wrong. She is a narcissist herself. But she also clearly suffered from years of narcissistic abuse at the hands of Dan. And Linda was no saint either. If you treat people poorly, it will come back to bite you in the bottom (Thank you for letting me vent!)

They don't go to their exes house, enter without permission, and shoot the ex and the new spouse in the back while they are asleep in bed. There is no excuse for her behavior except that all she cared about was herself. She exacted revenge and punished her children in the bargain.

It would have been so much better if Betty had taken her considerable brains and talents and made a life for herself without Dan. Some of the jurors were holding out for manslaughter and others for murder 1 with premeditation. I would have voted for murder 1 because these murders were obviously premeditated. Agreed. Granted, all three of them were not the nicest of people, but I'm sad that no one gave any real thought for those children: they just wanted to win. Terrible. I do believe that they loved to antagonize her, but all the nonsense between them (ESPECIALLY the murders) should not have happened. Plus, for all the times she cursed him out on voicemail and vandalized his home, did it ever occur to her that this is my children's home and lives I'm ruining? Therapy does work. I feel for the four of them. I know they're all in their 40s now with their own lives and families, but I can understand their respective viewpoints. The younger son and younger daughter (Rhett and Lee) want her out because terrible as the crimes are, they probably feel that's their only parent left and that she's not a threat. I appreciate that the new series has approached the story from a different perspective than the Meredith Baxter shows did. I went through something similar, and it truly makes you insane. The things that Dan Broderick did to this woman, and the fact that he had control of the whole legal community in San Diego made it impossible for her to get justice. Do I think they should’ve been murdered? Of course not. But I can understand where his behavior pushed her over the edge.

The reporter doing the voice over left out the fact that Betty had not only put Dan through law school but medical school also (whilst she also continued the small task of raising their children also). I find her story tragic. I saw a short video where she said that she was actually happy to be imprisoned, and not struggling the way she had been for years in hair marriage and separation to Dan. That’s striking and sad, that she found more comfort being behind bars than free, out in the world, and able to make her own choices. My mom retired from the prison Betty is at. She only worked on the woman’s side for about a year then was transferred to the men’s. I asked her is there anyone you’ve met while working that you feel sorry for and she said Betty Broderick so I looked her up. She does deserve to be there but it’s still a sad story.
