A person just messaged me without even asking for email but this person was very adamant on sending a courier to my house to pick up a $2000 laptop and pay via bank transfer with printed receipt. They were purchasing from Victoria while I was in NSW; why not just purchase similar priced laptop in their area without paying for courier. Plus they refused to send a digital receipt and would not let me ship with Australia post. I have seen way too many people fake a receipt and the next thing u know they will over pay and get all their money back, file complaint that item never arrived because u don’t have proof of them receiving it or they just didn’t pay u to begin with. Always do drop off or in person meet up, if you want to ship the item make sure you post it with a company you know will provide you with tracking number and ask recipient to sign as proof.

Two things to protect yourself on Gumtree. Make them pay you in person from their account to you. Bank to bank. Not Paypal. Secondly to prevent fake cash. Go with them to the cash point and make sure you see them take out the money before you hand over any item. NEVER just handover the item to them without checking and counting the money is not fake. Even if it is a sweet old lady! If they are genuine they wouldn't mind this.

The reason you get scammed on Ebay is because Ebay allows it. People do it because there no accountability, no punishment and nothing stopping them from doing so. They will just change their name, address, phone number and be on their way to commit more crimes.

Thats correct i know a man who got scammed 10 grand on ebay years a go eBay wanted nothing to do with it as he direct deposited the money in to the scammers bank account, but the scammer lived in the UK not Australia.

PlainLuke Bought a UV Pen to check, if it’s real it won’t show and if it’s fake the note will turn yellow where you write the pen. Worked for me

Some of these fake PayPal emails will also have a genuine shipping address with no dodgy links, they just essentially want to get your item for free. Someone tried it on me but I saw it a mile off luckily.

how on earth can you get scammed on gumtree lol the only way that could happen if the buyer asked you to meet at his location, BAD MOVE, GUMTREE IS A JOY TO SELL i simply ask every buyer to meet me out side my local train station kebab shop. if you accept cheque bank transfer etc etc anything other then cash you are the fool
