I was looking at a 150 litre bergen, but with all the mods completed, I have well surpassed that litreage. Just need a sherpa to carry it for me now....lol

Cracking project there Bex mate!!!!! Been toying with the idea of getting one of my Bergens done my either JJ's or Dixies Corner. Like you say it can be one hell of an investment!! They pop up once every so often on eBay, the last one i saw went for about £300!!...I managed to get a set of DPM Dixies hip padding that you just slip on the Bergen yourself. I've added some DPM Pouches to the waist strap as well. I'm watching this one with great interest mate. Can't wait to see how you added the back padding. ATB Derek

Please do! With my doss bag on top (floating lid) and my bed roll stowed under the Bergen, and still its completely empty. Stove and rations outside pouch, basha outside pouch, wet gear in the top (radio operator) pouch, main chamber is still empty. Inner chamber in reserve for clothing and a 38 litre patrol pack full of preps...What's more all pre mentioned kit I have stowed, using just a 38 litre patrol pack, see how later in the year....all the best bex

@@bexbugoutsurvivor I have a few extra utility pouches I was thinking of using, great alternative, but this minimi pouch was a steal. My plan is to have a complete cold weather wild camping loadout using. PLCE webbing and NI daysack only. The main problem is the dos bag (current issue one) taking up so much space. I just needed a little extra pouch space for the basha and cold weather layers.

Sounds like you really need the floating lid option. With the doss sack in a compression sack, and the bed roll under the Bergen, would leave a totally empty pack. The doss bag under the floating lid is actually more comfy to transport higher up, than loose filling it (just not as fast to evade detection) If you separate the night kit (bergen) from day kit, (the patrol) the 30 litre sits nicely with the bergen. There is a patrol and bergen combo vid coming up in a few weeks, that could change you way we think....bex

I'm with you on this one. A basic hiking pack full of camping gear would actually be more beneficial for bugging out/being homeless. We don't see many homeless people with an over loaded Bergen, but viewers like to see the familiar, rather than reality of their situation. Still thats show business....lol

nice one Bex. im in the middle of having mine done too. had the shoulder straps done, mesh panels behind the rocket pouches, molly panels on the front and back of the pouches, a padded belt attached to the hip straps. like the extra pouch you had done on the lid, very useful, looking forward to seeing yours evolve mate. had mine done at troopers of colly.

The floating lid has made a huge difference to me, and the wider straps and back cushion is far more comfy than without. The Karrimor Predator is still in my sights too, I gotta stop collecting bergens....lol

Looking forward to this series of videos Bex. In my opinion you can’t beat an Army Bergen , yes they are heavier than civvy ones, but they are bomb proof. Recently got a brand new Mtp air support Bergen with side pockets for £100, way more Bergen than I need but at that price was impossible to say no 😁 all the best. Stay safe mate

i have modded 3 bergen's so far, its a fairly quick learning curve, i might have one done professionally at some point, but i enjoy doing little projects. Best thing i have found to sew with is braided fishing line, its pretty much unbreakable. Am pondering adding two more utility pouches at the moment, (just because i have them spare)

I love modding my own Bergens it has a calming effect, and the voices in my head telling me to kill calms down....lol If you want to try some waxed thread 150 denier, I'll pop some in the post for you to try. I think fishing line or para cord guts are great for field craft repairs. I will keep my eye on your updates on facebook (and them steal all your ideas, claiming they were mine)....lol Have a great new year....bex

Bergan invented the Bergans Frame during a hunting trip, when he reached his destination feeling stiff and sore all over from equipment and game rubbing against his back. His ingenious invention made Bergans a leading supplier of rucksacks, and we have been so for more than 100 years.....All the best bex

Following on from Bex reply.. the 'Bergans of Norway' pack was used at one point by British special forces, and over time Bergan/Bergen became British Army slang for the issued pack

Comfy sholuder straps, THUMBS UP! Is it possible to hand stitch into this material? Any tips on how best to stitch extra pouches etc so that they go on and stay on? Cheers.

i do like the mods but my bergen is green just looked there website site and they do not do that colour

You need to search for 80 pattern on line to match. I have just completed an olive drab Berghaus Crusader. Google up Silvermans and give him a bell, there are really helpful, ask for 80 pat webbing pouches/respirator pouch/hip pad etc ..bex

That's right mate, South Wales. Many serving soldiers use Jay Jays, who will mod up an MPT Bergen. Probably Dixys Corner would be better for preppers/survivalists/bushcrafters, who will mainly use DPM Bergens.....

Bex you can also get professional tailoring done on bergens by dragonsupplies.co.uk You could compare prices to Jay jays. On the dragon supplies website they have a pricing list for modifications. Example triple Ultility pouches and basha pouch £70. I'm going to stick with your videos on tailoring my own. When I bought my DPM bergen it came with a spare bergen that needed repairs. So I salvaged everything off it except the back spine and shoulder straps as they were knackered. It also had no back frame inside. I did not know the back of the bergen had charcoal blocks in. Found that out when I stripped it. I can use what I salvaged to add onto the DPM bergen which was in good condition off ebay cost me £30 both bergens. 👍🏻 🙂 🇬🇧

There are a few companies that will modify your bergen. The company in this video was Jay Jays....
