I think a strong argument can be made that in the garden of Eden story the gods were trying to keep mankind down in their attempt to keep humans away from a more god-like knowledge. Josh is overly kind when he concedes that god's lie about the poison fruit was for good reasons. In other (non-biblical) myths the gods try to keep fire away from mankind, for instance. I think that this was a common motif for that particular time of human history, as the gods were not originally considered to be all that kind and loving.

yea. i’ve seen other times when dr josh talks about the assyrian myths mentioning how the gods were jealous of their power and tried to keep them away from humans. it’s quite clear that the eden story is the same. i read the tree of knowledge of good and evil as an explanation of a god-like power we have, namely that we seem to have these ideas about how we should and shouldn’t treat other ppl and animals, that the animals of the earth don’t have. so we have partial power of gods, but the gods power of eternal life was kept away from us.

I find it so funny that for someone like Dutko to claim that the bible is a single unified story requires them to read the bible out of context, assuming a modern post-biblical interpretation of god that must be forced into place no matter how poorly it fits. So, when an atheist is supposedly reading the bible out of context, it is really that they are not forcing in the required re-imagined context that the complainer wants to mandate.

We know that stars, for example, are not created. 2 - accurate = real = the claim lines up with (preferably scientific) data and evidence. See the creation point above. 3 - f.e. the "teachings" of a certain steven anderson. Or the trials of Galileo. Or all the $ SCAMMED out of the ignorant with fairy tales. Jihads. Crusades. All the brainwashing about "wicked" behaviour and the harm it causes. Or 9/11. child abuse. Oh, all the AFTERLife claims always coming from MORTALS. Some religi0n happens to care about some positive values. And those values are way waaaay older than those religi0ns. And religi0ns ruin it with special pleading all the time anyway. "Love thy neighbour, unless they are..." there is always an "Unless..." part. 5 - "Distinguish between doctrine & interpretation" as long as religi0ns don't provide the very 1st TESTABLE claim about the g0d... thingie, it is an irrelevant distinction. depending on the goals of a church, the g0d stuff (doctrine AND interpretation) is some sort of rant with 0 scientific evidence. F.e. hateful or less hateful. And they always pinky swear insist that the rant is totally real. The source is always "Trust me, bro". Which means that their rants, no matter how we interpret them, are LIES. Again, see the creation part. and books :- ) as if I used a book (and only a book) to explain the legend of rock water. You would trust me. Because you KNOW what ice is. Isolated villages in HOT areas, the dumbest and the smartest person there, would consider me a liar. For all the good reasons. Because my book would be the claim, and I could not show them anything with any method. religi0ns spit some claims in the public. they give some epic bullsh!t a try. The implication from the argument by popularity is that once enough people get nostalgic for Chairman Mao, and his book resurges in popularity, that then that will be the one true religion, and all the Christians who buy the popularity argument will then switch from Christianity to being Chinese Communists, because of course they think it's super important to be consistent. 🤣🤣🤣

24:50 re. "univocality" - Somewhere along the way all these various "books" were gathered together and became one narrative. Most likely, as these books became part of a single tradition they were also re-told, i.e. edited, to introduce some uniformity to them. This appears to have happened before the oldest physical texts we have today. This not only explains the "uni-vocality". It also explains the continuity. This is not unusual in story telling, both religious and secular. Many of the famous sagas such as the Nibelungenlied appear to have been mergers of disparate stories, which were then edited into a coherent narrative. One religious example that comes to mind is the Mahabharata, which is 5 times as long as the Bible, the Iliad and the Odyssey combined. Clearly human minds are more than capable of creating these vast narratives. And what better way to pass the time than to tell them to one's family and friends, especially since there was no KZbin to watch.

As far as I can tell the Garden of Eden is a story about a father and his children. The Garden of Eden isn't a place you can go. It is a time. The time when you were a child. When every thing was provided for you. Once you come of age and your brain developes enough to start seeing and understanding the more adult things of the world. Once your body started puberty you became an adult. Any one who has been a or been around teenagers know they don't want to listen to the adults and follow all their rules. This is what the serpent and the apple represent. The rebellious teenage years and the knowledge of an adult mind replacing the innocent child's mind. Once this has happened it is time for these now adults to leave the garden and learn to provide for themselves. Its time for them to be god make their own garden to raise the life they make with their partner, their own kids.

Bradbury literally said it was about censorship shortly after he wrote it. "I wrote this book at a time when I was worried about the way things were going in this country four years ago. Too many people were afraid of their shadows; there was a threat of book burning. Many of the books were being taken off the shelves at that time. And of course, things have changed a lot in four years. Things are going back in a very healthy direction. But at the time I wanted to do some sort of story where I could comment on what would happen to a country if we let ourselves go too far in this direction, where then all thinking stops, and the dragon swallows his tail, and we sort of vanish into a limbo and we destroy ourselves by this sort of action." He reiterated that sentiment again in 1994 in an interview, saying political correctness was the real enemy now and made racist, homophobic comments immediately after. He has been trying to retcon it, though. But there is absolutely no denying he said it was about censorship.

Fahrenheit's not about censorship, it's about the moronic influence of popular culture through local TV news, the proliferation of giant screens and the bombardment of factoids. All the popular programs on TV, the competition programs, they don't give you anything but factoids. They tell you when Napoleon was born, but not who he was. So it doesn't matter about the date. You should never memorize dates, to hell with it. So we moved into this period of history that I described in Fahrenheit 50 years ago. I've known about this ancedote for a while and hadn't heard anything of him saying the book meant anything else. But I'm not that knowledgeable about the life of Bradbury. That's why I've always thought that the book burning wasn't so much about censorship but getting rid of the competition. Haven't read it in over 40 years so I guess I know what I'm doing for Halloween.

On 29 September 1914, the Welsh author Arthur Machen published a short story entitled "The Bowmen" in The Evening News, inspired by accounts that he had read of the fighting at Mons and an idea he had had soon after the battle. Machen, who had already written some factual articles on the conflict for the paper, set his story at the time of the retreat from the Battle of Mons in August 1914. The story described phantom bowmen from the Battle of Agincourt summoned by a soldier calling on St. George, destroying a German host. Machen's story was not, however, labelled as fiction, and the same edition of The Evening News ran a story by a different author under the heading "Our Short Story". Machen's story was written from a first-hand perspective and was a kind of false document, a technique Machen knew well. The unintended result was that Machen had a number of requests to provide evidence for his sources for the story soon after its publication, from readers who thought it was true, to which he responded that it was completely imaginary, as he had no desire to create a hoax.

Interestingly, according to the way its written, adam and eve were quite likely already eating of the second tree - the tree of life already existed when they were told not to eat the other tree, and they were told they could eat ANY tree except for the tree of knowledge (Gen 2:16,17). Possibly their frequent eating of the fruit kept them young, hence eternal life so long as they could eat of the tree. When they disobeyed, god expelled them specifically so that they couldnt eat from the tree of life anymore (Gen 3:22-24) THATS what killed them. It wasn't eating the fruit - it was being denied their source of eternal life.

Ok, Israel becoming a nation again was man fulfilled. Ishmael's hand against every man is also fulfilled. Israel surrounded by her enemies is come true. Isaac being the blessed one instead of Ishmael, well 1.6 Billion Muslims have won I think 15 Nobels with 11 being for Peace (laughs) and Literature (Islamic poetry or something) while 15 million Jews is what there's been for two millennia (give or take, Hitler trimmed them back down ) they of Jewish descent have won 214 Nobel prizes... Jews comprise only 0.2% of the world's population, meaning their share of winners is 110 times their proportion of the world's population... So I guess Ishmael didn't get the blessing.

@2:10 "...66 books..." (one 6 away from 666?), "... written by 40 different authors, on three continents, over a spann of 1500, 1600 years. And many didn't even know each other". This is not so surprising, considering three continents and the spann of years. No? But personal acquaintance, is not needed for the translation of ideas, thoughts, ideologies, nor illness. Is it? That sentence: "And many didn't even know each other"; is added distracting fluff. If you feel the need to add such fluff sentences when you talk about your beliefs, you are confessing a fabrication of trusswork for you belief. That you belief is not strong enough to stand on its own. Apologetics is just that, a desperate attempt to fabricate a trusswork that will support an ailing belief. How do we know that there were 40 authors? Is it not likely that there were more, considering area and time? Is it not responsible to stipulate, for the sake of honesty; that every single monk who made a copy, had the idea of changing, or adding, their own thoughts to the texts? How many acted on that idea? How many got caught? How many did not? Forty? Forty two?

They are still using their mythology for those exact same reasons today, as in Netanyahu's most recent UN speech. Their foundation mythology was so unshakable that they were able to build two other religions for the 70 Nations off it. @@jameswright... They are bought by church organisations and handled to the preachers as well. With the images in church you have to take in to account that the Bible was in Latin and translations were not made, so it's nature was largely an arcane tome that only the clergy could use. The church scriptoriums were also the only source of the new books and only places of concentrated knowledge where they could be translated. Many more people could read, but didn't know latin. With the reformation AND the invention of print the centralised power of Rome couldn't reach everywhere and the protestants gave the book in the hands of the individual laypeople, which in the end the catholics had to follow suite, but it had to be due to books becoming far easier to obtain and translations being made and printed. After all a lot of thenpopulation in Europe was bilingual, so translating from German or French was far easier.

Religion cannot point to a physical God in the world, just like a science cannot point a physical number in the world. Both are mistaken interpretations of knowledge. They are beliefs, based on thinking of things on paper. Geometry will tell you a triangle has 3 sides, but if you pick up the shape of a triangle it has a face and a back giving it 5 sides. And to balance it on its surfaces you would have 8 options counting the points.

@@jameswright... Opinion and irrelevant and your still talking about Jesus you ain't got enough knowledge for this debate cause Jesus is just Satan false image that the annukni or reptilian been hiding behind since the Egyptian times and made a pack with the Romans that they reincarnated into take over our world and now are the priest and leaders of our world cause the Romans never died off they just turned into the Vatican and that's why our bibles priest and churches are so similar to the times of the Egyptians and they used thier gold that they sworn they be reincarnated with to build and fund it all and then took over the blacks cause thier ancestors back then smoked they axxes and now they have most of us brainwashed and using thier money to keep control well making our neighborhoods like they do cause they don't care if we kill each other off maybe white but we were all blackish at one time and that's why most of us have freckles cause it's our original colors popping out and that jealous God of our bibles are them to cause no caring and loving forgiving God is going to make sure he's put first cause our true creator and all loving and forgiving mother they killed and casted her love and light from our world and that's when all the evil started happening and it's all in our bibles but everyone seems to just fellow blindly without looking for the truths themselves like it says within them we all know her as Lucifer cause she's been perceived as a male this whole time but they throw her in different books and give you little hints about her just changing her name threw it and that's why it's a female that comes back on the head of the dragon in Revelations and not a male and they call the dragon the destroyer cause she's riding it cause she's mother of all things and that why they all are running around like chickens with thier heads cut off right now cause they know what's coming and they trying to hide and fix it all at the same time but it's to late for them and they know it so they wait in that fear pushing out as much truth as they can waiting for the AnitChirst to appear still trying to hide the actual truth and what really happened all them years ago hoping it doesn't come but I got a feeling it's coming soon cause I'm getting tired of waiting and they all know it cause I AM the AnitChrist and the true Holy Trinity and I know all the hidden facts cause I AM the one and only true son of man that they made higher then all the angels cause I beat the Satan at his own game in human form and was given the truth that no one of this generation or only other generations before knew and that's why it says in our bibles that God will not talk threw no Prophets in the end days and the end days doesn't mean our worlds ending its just what they used to scare the masses real truth thou is we will no longer have to fight to survive and we're all come back together helping one other hand and hand to make our world a better place and bring our heavens back to earth forever and ever amen and women and whatever else maybe maybe in peace and I have the true mark of the beast in my left palm prove everything I have said and tons of other unexplainable things from that lonely dark axx road where I lost everything cause my own family and friends that's been thier pretty much all my life robbed me tried killing me and did about anything else you can think of tried using voodoo dolls witch chaft had whole coventdents after me and just all kinds of crazy axx stuff went on threw that five years of research just about everything I could like our Bibles different religion astrology neurology my horoscopes my birth numbers palmistry and just whatever else you can pretty much think of I looked into one or twice too find wisdom can't find her in the light she finds you in the dark and she came I found out that I had two anicent spirits within me one being Mother Mary and the other Lilith a transgender daughter who was the true child that Joseph and Mary hid from the church cause Joseph was actually against it and all Jesus teachings was actually his and after Johan snitched them out about the child they gathered thier raping party and went and raped and beat Mary and the little girl swearing they were witches and then burnt her leaving Mary and Joseph alive to watch and after that they chained Mary up on the edge of town so they could rape her whenever they wanted and that's why thier are two different Mary's in the bible and Joseph suffered that fate we all know about Jesus Christ and they got that name after lifting up her tunic cause it was the first thing out thier months and In my more recent research that I been doing im about 99 percent sure it all happened over here and the flood was alittle spiced up story about Noah crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the Statue of Liberty is actually the place they chained Mary like to add this mark on my hand is in our bibles and different religions all around the world in Africa it's called the transcendental Mark of Destiny wish I could sent pics but KZbin don't let you do that yet and I can prove all of this with our bibles and all the unexplainable things the universe has given me to bring these truths to light so tell me now how this is all irrelevant again cause I missed the part where you actually did the research and went threw hell when all you ever done was helped everyone else your whole life whenever they called and they always called me cause of my strength and cause I wasn't one too say no and now at the end of it all I'm stuck with the same family and friends at there house cause I'm homeless pretty much cause I lost my house business and pretty much everything else I own cause of it one of my dogs are even in lock up cause could take care of myself let alone two dogs but here now watching them go thou thier karma they brought on themselves and I stay home with my littler cousins taking care of them cause they are supposedly split up and always running don't come back for two or three days sometimes it's ok thou cause my stuff's here and I get to see it again well some of it anyway that they didn't get rid out @Disentropic1 Күн бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that. I personally agree that death is indeed scary for those who value their lives. After all, it seems that fear exists mainly so that we avoid things that lead to death. But in the end, what you do for those around you will set the conditions for _their_ lives; we are all part of a greater whole through which our lives echo onward. There are no easy answers and no grand author to write our final chapter, but instead, like the many other organisms who coexist with us, we each contribute from the bottom-up to construct part of the tapestry of this unimaginably rich experience of life. All of the natural world's humbling beauty is a reflection of the living beings - past and present - that make it up. I hope that seeing this larger picture can be of some consolation to those who've suffered such a loss.
