I’m a Democrat. I DO NOT want to see the party moving in the direction of becoming the old GOP. I think we would appeal to many more people if we wouldn’t worry about appealing to people who weren’t inclined to support us, and move further to the left. Biden got a lot of things done. For example, the infrastructure bill that put thousands of people to work, and shored up badly needed public structures, especially roads and bridges. He managed us through a health crisis, the likes of which we hadn't seen since, as Trump himself put it, "1918." He passed a child tax credit, cutting taxes up to $3,000 for families with child or dependent family members. He passed the PACT act, which allowed veterans to access healthcare for conditions caused by exposure to toxic substances during their service. He rejoined the Paris Climate accord, and signed the Respect for Marriage Act, which meant federation recognition for same-sex marriages. ' None of which seemed to matter to the voters. They did not seem to note these things, even though the roads in their area are being fixed. (I notice this, mainly with annoyance at the proliferation of construction crews, but I realize that it's making our lives better). Nor did they seem to notice that more of them (or their neighbors) were working. That more factories have reopened in the US. That their children (and their neighbors' children) are a little better fed than they were four years ago. That less of us need to wear masks in public. But I agree with you about the grossness of political ads.

@JWinHD15 күн бұрын
The preemptive pardons are a really bad idea. In addition to the cons you discussed of the perceptions that accepting the pardon would be an admission of guilt, there are other risks. Since none of these people have actually done anything wrong, the pardon would have to be VERY broad, and if there were ever some future wrongdoing revealed by ANY of those pardoned (like tax fraud, for instance), the pardons would look really, really bad. On the other hand, if the pardons are not broad enough, and probably even if they’re overly broad, it wouldn’t stop Kash Patel (or whoever) ordering the FBI to investigate people, deeply compromising their privacy even if charges are never ultimately brought. The process is the punishment. Lastly, the courts still work: you still need to go to a grand jury for indictments, and you still need to convince a jury to convict. Now, a lot of money and time could be ‘wasted’ on defending yourself against even the most baseless claims. That means the solution is to let Trump attempt his prosecutions (because he will anyway) and come to the defense, legally and monetarily, of Trumps’ targets.
@titaniumteddybear15 күн бұрын
If Biden does issue a statement about the pardons then he needs to use video footage of Trump and Patel saying that they're going to prosecute people, as part of his speech. The viewers need to see, immediately, that he is not over-reacting. I know that presidential speeches tend to eschew "multimedia". But, given that we have high definition video recordings of these bad actors saying they're planning to act badly, perhaps it's time to get past that.

Disagree, people are going to see videos of Trump and Patel saying they are going to prosecute criminals (which is a lie), and then see Joe Biden pardon them before they go to trial, it will confirm Trumps narrative. In 2008, Indiana went Blue. In 2012 it flipped back Red, but elected a Democratic Senator. However the National Party was no where to be found. Indiana has continued to go farther and farther Red. What if the Democrats had stuck around from 09 onward? We can ask the same question with so many states. The infrastructure has to be there in some form in every state.

No one has every said this. Pardons are good when they are for people who are innocent of the crime they are accused of, when the penalty for something they did is exorbitant or when they are being unjustly saddled with trumped up charges. Pardons are bad when they help people escape accountability or prevent the truth coming out. The same thing has always been true and the pardon power has always had the same central problem that there are no formal limitations to prevent the latter kind of pardon

Ad saturation FAILS HARD: I cut the cord back in 2012, so it’s online or nothing for me. KZbin itself is the prime example. The ads are so onerous and out of touch (are we really in the midst of a stuck poop epidemic? KZbin ad servers think so.) that I finally broke down and paid for premium just to make the platform usable again. Same goes for political ads. I made my mind up *hard* January 6 2021 so all those repetitive ads and *all that spam in my message inbox* was wasted on me. Message spam, that’s a stupid idea. I donated to Act Blue. Appears they sold my info to *everyone*. That sucks out loud, guys. I ended up creating an auto delete shortcut that sent every message from a sender not in my contacts straight to delete and block hell. Now. If a yellow dog dem like me found the spam exasperating, what do you think it did to those who were wavering?

I also scan them to be aware of ballot initiatives or smaller local campaigns that I may not be as up to date on. I don’t use any cable and I mostly use KZbin premium, Netflix, and hbo. It’s 100000% worth it for me bc of the amount of time I spend on KZbin. I’m not active on social media either. I get my news through print news & Reddit and my commentary from KZbin. The email spam is truly horrendous. It’s SO over the top and ridiculous. They really need to fix that. What is a yellow dog democrat? I’ve heard of blue dog but not yellow lmao

I don't disagree that just saying "Hey, economic populism!" isn't going to make people sprint to the voting booth, but I think the same thing applies to any voter. Its always more complex than just making a token statement about policy. But when I say that's true for everyone, I think its extra true for moderates, because they have someone else competing for them. The thing about how no one is catering to the progressive left is that if someone does, they will receive all the pent up support. Look at AOC. Look at Bernie. Imagine harnessing all of that fervor and also the normal democratic vote. I'm not sure why democrats insist on moderates being a better target than progressives.
