The scientist vs engineer debate is stupid, they both have their own, very important separate functions. Without physicists, engineers wouldn't be able to create ANYTHING, since their work is based on physical discoveries and principles. Without engineers, we could know so many things about the universe, but we wouldn't be able to use it for anything. Both are very important. Let's all keep this in mind: None of them could create ANYTHING without the discoveries of mathematicians :)
@TheSLK666 жыл бұрын
Mathematicians provide the tools to understand any idea, no matter how abstract. Physicists apply them to understand our reality and provide answers as to why anything works, engineers learn from them to shape our reality and provide physical tools to further probe reality and aid physicists.

Theoretical scientists have no interest in solving practical real-world problems. The real world is boring for them. If their work has indirect real-world applications, that's a "nice to have". You can spin nano tubes into strands and strings, the problem is that they are not cheap and ultimately would need to be made like carbon fiber to serve as a strong structural material. However, radiation and exposure to vacuum might require coatings to protect it so it's not only more expensive but likely less suited for a part meant to sit outside the space station.
