I have a Guide Gun and yeah, they let you know when they go off, but not bad. Have a 92' Trapper in .44 mag. That carbine, with it's short barrel, lower weight and steel butt plate has some surprising punch. Love the 92' action. It's a good looking little rifle. This .500 is pretty.

I have 9 lever actions. None in S&W 500. 45-70, 44 mag. I have 2 S&W 500 Mag. X frame revolvers. One long and short. So I was thinking hmmm, that would be cool to have a lever action in S&W 500 for the collection! Took a look! Holy batman! That is one very expensive rifle! :) Might be hard to sneak that purchase past the wife! ;) Awesome review though! Thanks Hickok45!

The ATF does grant exemptions for firearms over 50 cal if they are for "sporting purposes". But the way the law is written it's they "can" exempt them, they don't have to.

Smooth bores are under different rules. I believe rifled barrels in shotguns used to be illegal. A smooth bore barrel on a handgun is illegal. Crazy rules.

f5tornadeau. I got the Marlin about 6 months ago and the only issue I ever had with it is the front sight post was way too high. Shot 6 inches low with the rear ramp sight all the way up. Sent it back to Marlin/Remington and it shoots just fine. Runs ammo without jamming, Leverevolution and some hard cast 405 grain rounds. Smooth action after cleaning it well and working it a couple dozen times. Marlin now days is a risk unfortunately but I hear from multiple sources it is getting better. Glad I took it. I hope your Marlin gets worked out, have you tried checking for burs or rough spots in the action ?

My comment has nothing to do with this video however, While watching "The NBC Nightly News" coverage of the event in Las Vegas, there was a short clip of Hickok45 talking about converting semi-automatic weapons to fully automatic. They made no mention of most responsible way Hickok presents his information. I hope this is in no way becomes detrimental to this channel but if there is some blowback, please support Hickok45.

I always enjoy watching it in Japan. It seems that Ruger commemorated M1 Garland type 44 Magnum rifle, but I'd like you to report it. I like the Ruger VAQUERO® model very much, Lever action is also nice, but if possible, I would like to join the hunting area in combination with M1 style gas auto rifle.

I know this is not a precision rifle and a dumb question but how does it keep its rear sight zeroed if its attached to the bolt? I would expect it to slightly shift left or right after each cycle of the bolt?

You probably do albeit minimal given that it is iron sights are much more prone to user error. Personally, they would have been much better served copying a Marlin or a Henry action to allow for some conventional scopes/shooting.

A close friend of mine owns and shoots a revolver in .500 Magnum and early on discovered the tendency of certain types of shell casings to "stick" in the chambers at first. Many, many rounds later that tendency has pretty much disappeared. His revolver is one of his favorites for both "swamp" deer and boar hunting as the round (w/Barnes bullets) provides for excellent accuracy and one shot kills. And by the way, you have very nearly convinced me that I "need" a Big Horn Armory .500 Magnum in my little collection of hunting rifles even though I have yet to find or purchase a "JM" stamped Marlin in .45-70.....Decisions, decisions.....

I have owned my Big Horn Armory model 89 500 S&W magnum lever action rifle the "Spike Driver" along with my S&W 500 magnum revolver. Well, BFR Big Frame Revolver has come out with the newest most powerful handgun in the world 🌎 the 500 Bushwhacker. They talking to Big Horn Armory about making a 500 Bushwhacker in the Lever action rifle. I'm going to have to purchase both of them when they hit the market. The 500 Bushwhacker is twice the length of the 500 magnum and it's twice the power of the 500 magnum round. It also has a recoil twice as strong as the 500 magnum. Twice the power can you believe that. Ok I'm wondering what would be more powerful whose gonna take the King of the Lever Action Rifle the 500 Bushwhacker or the old 50-110 Winchester? That 50-110 Winchester round is twice as powerful as the S&W 500 Magnum so is the new 500 Bushwhacker. I want to see a comparison. 😊

more than a few calibers have a "sporting cartridge" exemption through the ATF. Including but not limited to, the .550 magnum (based on the .460 wby mag. case) the good ole' .577 t-rex, .600 and .700 N.E.s and a wonderful 'little' cartridge which is also available in a lever action, the .50 Alaskan (which puts the .500 smith to shame)
