Pete, do you train your neck separately with a neck harness or neck machine? Or is the size of your neck due in part by deadlifting?

Thats light as shit for someone pulling 900+, most other guys that hit his numbers are 80-100 pounds heavier
@chrisliowknicksfan
@chrisliowknicksfan 7 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but that's blatantly incorrect. If you actually think someone like George Leeman is just Pete with just 100 pounds of fat tacked on, then that's your prerogative, but not one that anyone in the powerlifting community would agree with. The people in the 900+ club that weigh 80-100 pounds more than Pete are 'obese' in the same way that every single serious strongman competitor is 'obese'. There is a tremendous advantage to having an excess of bodyfat when you are going for pure strength, and that is without even going into the leverage and other mechanical factors influenced by weight behind a DL. Go look at 77kg olympic lifters and compare them with the heaviest class...once you start nearing the natural limits for strength and size, the amount of fat you need to continue making progress rises almost exponentially compared to the amount of strength you want to put on.
@chrisliowknicksfan
@chrisliowknicksfan 7 жыл бұрын
+jim jones jesus man, reading comprehension. where did i claim that fat alone would make you lift more? having a heavier bf helps tremendously in the strength building stage, which is why all the record holders and strongmen are 'fat'.
@viggowiin
@viggowiin 7 жыл бұрын
+jim jones The ones holding 100 pounds also have more muscle. It's easier gaining muscle and strenght with a higher bf. The body is just more comfortable at higher bf. Not saying obese or fat, but higher than 10-12

Never seen Pete do sumo, crazy times we live in. The directing could have been a little bit more on point, because when he is talking about feet placement or lat engagement the camera is pointed at his knees, quads or something like that, for example. Also it seems a little too focused on only one body part, when he is demonstrating the whole pull. Those are just my 2 cents.

@ryanturner8577
@ryanturner8577 8 жыл бұрын
+areMiller Lol what makes it incorrect? why does everyone think technique is always so black and white? unless you are a very low hip deadlifter, your knees are going to be slightly forward. The problem with getting your shins completely parallel behind the bar is that a lot of people become too upright in a squat position. When that happens you lose leverage over the bar. So pete is a little big of a higher hip puller, so his knees will be over the bar some to keep good leverage. That's why he says he pulls his hips through early, so the bar doesn't smash his knees. This allows a good bar path.
