My apologies - couldn’t help but laugh out loud at your derailments, love the commentary. Glad the Intermountain car was not a write off. But I’ll admit, I’ve broken my fair share of couplers over the decades, but never have I sheered an axle!! 😂 As for a derailment, a 35 car RoadRailer makes a mess - one car derails, they ALL derail

@@EvanstonSubThere was a story in TRAINS magazine a couple of years ago or so about a Roadrailer train (Don't remember which railroad, but I was under the impression it was a western RR) that experienced a derailment of a single trailer, but the event only became known after the train had arrived safely at its destination. How? Somehow the trailer had bumped along the ballast at speed for quite some distance before re-railing itself either at a switch or a grade crossing.

Been there! Human error is always a big factor especially when you are trying to railfan and run trains at the same time.

To have so little damage at the helix with concrete as a landing pad is miraculous! I had a loco take a dive onto plush carpet once, and its body sustained a lot more damage than that. Don't let it happen again, get some guardrails installed.

@@EvanstonSub Nope! It’s N Scale, lower center of Gravity. The 2 Gevos probably outweighed the 3 EMDs. Broad curve on the flat. There were a few N Scale Bruises in the Gevos. All injuries too small to attend to… 😷🚑🏥

That's why we have PTC on the rails to prevent accidents like this. Going to have to launch an investigation to see why the crew was running on the mainline not using their PTC.

PTC is in addition to CTC. Basically, stops the train if the engineers make a mistake and put things in peril.

Nasty - how often have we had similar upsets? I've never had a wheelset break like that, but one of my Bachmann Branchline (UK prototypes) wheel sets caused a similar spectacular mess once. The wheelset had two metal wheels, separated by a plastic axle muff. The muff gave way at one end, axle broke and the breakdown gang had a mess to clear up.

Do you have checklist/criteria for when you bring a new car/locomotive onto the layout. What do you check prior to a piece of equipment being “blessed” to run on the layout? Many modelers have different things they check, wanted your take. Do you really shoot your vids on football Sundays?

your comment is VERY close to real life... railroaders are subject to suspicionless drug testing... as recently as 1979, there was a CONRAIL case that made it all the way to the supreme court... the court ruled that railroads did not have to negotiate with unions prior to imposing mandatory employee drug testing

The plastic engineer died and I'm wondering who's going to provide for the plastic engineer's children - is there a Go Fund Me for them? We have to think of their education and their futures. (I might quietly introduce myself to the plastic engineer's wife - after a fashionable grieving period of course. We wouldn't want the children exposed to any kind of gossip, you do understand).
