Everyone always says this should have been a replacement for How Bad Can I be, but consider; HBCIB is used earlier in the film as the Once-ler creates the company. It establishes him as slightly Naive but egotistical, having that same Pop tune that we got. Then, sometime later, The lorax sits him down, tells him to just stop. Then, we get this track to play. Not only would it better help illustrate the scope of the Once-ler's actions, but could also act as a soft reprise of HBCIB, showing how he leans further into his use of 'Survival of the Fittest' as a justification to his actions. Also, the "Who cares if some things are Dying" would hit harder due to a similar sense of escalation.

Imagine the Oncelerfandom if this was the actual song of the film..
@ethanrapp69983 жыл бұрын
Realistically it wouldn't exist because in THIS song the Onceler's actions are entirely built on selfish desire, instead of pressure from his family. He's much less sympathetic, but also a lot more believable, with his reason for expanding the company being "I need a bigger office, and I need a bigger chair". The Onceler Fandom came into being because they made him too lovable, the movie largely ignoring a big part of what makes corporate CEOs so detestable. It's not that they're in denial about the morality of their actions like "How Bad Can I Be" suggests, it's often that they just DON'T CARE.
@TheAmorable3 жыл бұрын
@@ethanrapp6998 No no, but a lot of the Oncelerfandom was made because the Onceler is extremely cute (I guess???) and I can’t say his looks would ever change and plus this would simply be more fuel for like.. cringy “I’m not like other girls, I love the edgy Onceler cuz I’m just as edgy” energy type stuff. Sure it started with him being obliviously likable in the current rendition but I refuse to believe it was because of that and that alone, and not also the fact that everyone thinks he’s cute
@ethanrapp69983 жыл бұрын
@@TheAmorable I mean I guess it's a good point. I can think of several characters in media that people like because they're despicable, but fun to watch asshats. (Reaver, Bill Cypher, every classic Disney villain, ect.) Still, a fandom that understands that a character is definitely a villain and why, as opposed to one that defends the actions of a character representing inexcusable, serious, REAL issues, seems much more preferable to our current reality.

@@ethanrapp6998 True true, reminds me of Claude Frollo from HoND. No one liked him. ESPECIALLY for his defense of the cruelty of the church and the idea of genocide. People often criticize this movie for giving the Once-ler a face and giving him more of a background, which is completely fair, but this song goes to show that this reinterpretation of the character had the potential to be good if only they had committed to the dark tone shown here. If this were the Once-ler we would have had, I think people would have been much more willing to accept it deviating a little from the source material.

@steffen89826 ай бұрын
I can't remember where or who said it, but I've seen a few YT comments that suggest a really interesting idea for what they could've done. In the beginning of the movie, the Once-Ler is shown in full, with a face and everything, just as he is in the actual movie. However, over the course of How Bad Can I Be (or in an ideal world, Biggering), we gradually see less and less of his body, until by the end of the song, it's just the gloves, just like it was in the book. I feel like this would achieve the best of both worlds - Giving him a face and a body at first would show that this could indeed happen to any normal person, then by the end, the lack of any identifiable or visible face displays the notion that power corrupts, and that people's values can be eroded down by greed until they aren't "just" a person anymore, they are the corporate monster. They are the problem.

there are very few songs in this world that really pull me in deep with its meanings and instrumentals and this has got to be on the top of the list. seriously. every change in the backing vocals and instruments and the final bridge just all comes together and you can feel every single movement in the song. i don't know if i'm even making sense at this point but holy shit does this go hard. the last notes at the end being light and soft contrast with the rest of the song and it works so well because you're kinda being pulled back to reality.

@@poptartcatz4032 On your last point, someone did make a storyboard of this song and as it comes to an end Once-ler finally looks at the destroyed valley with a look of horror and realization of what he's done.

and it’s JUST A DEMO. imagine if it was allowed to be a full fleshed version

_Yes, "Who cares if somethings are dying" slaps hard. But, "I don't wanna hear your crying" slaps MORE harder_
