Ironically Jurgen Klopp (current Liverpool manager) and Ange Postecoglou (cuurent Celtic manager) look like they've both used Shankly's insight here as their fundamental inspiration and outlook !! Hence why the fans ,the clubs and the 2 cities they come from continue to have so much in common (Andy Robertson LB of Liverpool , and whom has supported Celtic all his life, would be the 1st to agree with this)

I remember watching this interview when it was first broadcast. Shankly was asked what it was that made Jock Stein such a great manager. This was part of his answer. Btw, for what it's worth - re: best Celtic player. Kenny Dalglish ( my fav ) , Jimmy Johnstone and Henrik Larsson - in that order.

Bertie Peacock Captained Celtic to our greatest ever result over Rangers in the League Cup Final in 1957. Bertie was a Proud Ulster man and as far as I am aware also a proud Orangeman. It never stood in his way to Captain Celtic. He played in over 300 games for Celtic and wore his Hoops with pride. Some folk would do well to remember these things before they spout their pish. God bless wee Bertie and all who stepped over the divide to play for Celtic. Stein ,Dalglish,McGrain,Provan all top men.

Shanks was not catholic , his funeral service was at st marys' church west derby village and it is anglican/c of e .It was a mile or less from his home . catholic/protestant never came into things with shanks anyway , football more important that that .

@PauIsixsmith Stein was a protestant too. Does that make him 'an orange bastard'? Liverpool may have Orangemen roots, but they've moved on from that. Rangers on the other hand, haven't - that's why they're universally despised. I like to think that many of my fellow Celtic fans, are bigger than this sectarian nonsense. Celtic is an open and welcoming football club - to ALL religions, nationalities and ethnicities. Besides, speaking as a socialist, its all of us or none, tim or hun.
