I’m 37 now watching this for the first time in 2023 and I was her age in 2000 and cringe much Howard stern was emphasising on her age and his sexual intentions it was awkward. I discovered the smashing pumpkins at 15 the same year I became a Marilyn Manson fan and they’re both my favourite bands. I just can’t fathom how rude his American fans were to him moving in a different direction in 98. I have never understood the hate from a vast majority of SO fans that expected a copy of a copy of a copy of their first three albums. That’s not fair on the artist and it’s actually incredibly selfish as a fan to think that way and have that expectation of your idols. As an artist myself I admire, encourage and respect change as this helps us grow as artists and as human beings. It’s a shame Billy copped so much BS from those types of fans. I’m about to buy my first electric guitar at almost 38 years of age but f*ck it! I’m doing it. I already have basic skills with drums, acoustic guitar and piano so I’m up for this new challenge. I saw the smashing pumpkins 2 days ago at sandstone point Brisbane in Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 where I live and it was undeniably the most amazing soul searching experience I’ve had in such a long time. The last time I saw them was sound wave 2015 and I caught Billy’s guitar pick. Ive been playing my acoustic guitar with it since I saw them and my god I’m so inspired. Billy is a music genius. I love how his mind thinks and his creativity with his music. Keep doing what your doing mate.

He didn't predict it, he was just aware of it. As the 90's went on and grunge clones like Bush were being pushed things did get very stale. It's not true that there were no amazing bands anymore, but they were no longer being played on these so-called modern rock radio stations or on MTV. I mean, the mid-to-late 90's had incredible albums that are all now considered classics released by Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Converge. While at the same time fucking Limp Bizkit and all that bullshit was getting all the mainstream attention. I'm no snob and I enjoy all kinds of music and can see talent where it is regardless of whether or not I dig the band (i.e. Korn) but a lot of that Nu-Metal was shit and had no real substance. Billy was reacting towards the coming of that whole thing, and I give him credit for it. There are amazing "rock" bands still making music today, but you need to find them. Beach House, Kurt Vile, Ty Segall, and Converge (still!) put out interesting music that pushes rock forward.
