When I was a young man in Inverness, Billy appeared there in one of the two theatres (one of them, La Scala, if I remember right - it was a long time ago - doubled as a cinema) The Corries were on at the other one. We could only see one of the acts, and most of us took the rare opportunity of seeing The Corries live , leaving Billy’s gig sparsely attended. Sorry Billy . I heard Billy swore never to perform in Inverness again. I moved down south soon after and I don’t know if he kept to his threat.

You’ve got that the wrong way round mate, Fred Dagg recorded a modified version in 1976 of Billy’s original in 1974, so if anyone was “ripping off” the song it was Fred i’m sorry to say
