It's awesome that you are starting to bring awareness about this approach to mental health. You can interview Chris Palmer, he's awesome at explaining why a Keto diet improves mental health.

I believe this However many already med injured here and yes often displaying such disorders Would love you to give some anecdotes of clients you’ve met who have been severely injured who have reaped benefits, who seem to, arguably, more inspired than many of those who have the more major mental disorders Thank you

Hi @Dr Josef very interesting video. Fascinating how much diet can impact mental health. Question: What are the risks of ketoacidosis using this approach?

Keto is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute... but also realizing mid-air that the airplane never existed, gravity is a conspiracy, and you're actually a bird that forgot it could fly. So, here's the deal: I’m over here yelling, “Jump!” God’s over here double-yelling, “Jump!” Infinite love is doing cartwheels, holding a big neon sign saying, “Jump!” And you're like, “Wait, but what if I splat?” And I'm like, “Bro, spoiler alert: there’s no splat. There’s no ground. It’s just freefall, forever. Like an endless roller coaster, but without the nausea and overpriced souvenir photos.” Still, you're clinging to your imaginary airplane seat, thinking, “But what if falling forever isn’t great?” Which, I gotta say, is the most human thing ever. We’d rather stay in our imaginary airplanes of fear than risk falling into the infinite trampoline pit of love. But eventually, you jump. And it’s terrifying. And amazing. And you’re screaming for like the first eternity. And then it hits you: “Wait… I can’t hit anything!” And then you’re just falling, laughing, and yelling back at the airplane, “Why didn’t anyone tell me sooner?!” And God’s like, “Dude, I literally told you. Like, 17 times.”

I’ve been on a keto diet for about 6 weeks. Ranging between .8-1.2mmol and I’ve never felt this good. Best energy levels I’ve ever had both physically and mentally, I feel incredibly satiated, and I don’t know how to describe it but I feel more resilient too. Excellent!

Can someone explain to me since when bipolar and schizophrenia are "one group"?? This sounds to me like: "helps patients with atherosclerosis and prostate enlargement" If I am schizophrenic, paranoid, mentally disorganized and hallucinating, how would that put me in one pool with someone having none of those symptoms but experiencing mood and motivation swings, which I don't?? Or someone with severe eating disorders? There is still so much discrimination going on in psychiatry it feels. Up to the very point that: medical ketosis has been discovered already a 100 years ago. For "those" with epilepsy. Why? Let me guess: because it's neurology department, not psychiatry. In psychiatry, such research, such trials, seemed to have been unwanted. At the time, high dose insulin injection shock therapies were popular instead, for "those schizophrenics". These were also very "promising" trials, 10 years after which electro shock was it. Lobbying, instead of real science, has a very grim history of horrible abuse and human violations in psychiatry. We have to work through all this legacy of emotions and stagnation, both on doctor and patient sides. After 100 years, research finally "begins" for "those mentally ill". You know, "those". Bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, you name it, "those" people. The result categories that are presented look like children's criteria, "had less depression", "reported less anxiety". Yes, yes, it is all a start, and "very promising". I wonder what is so hard to simply do it, instead of lobbying for possibilities? If people could do it on thousands of patients with epilepsy for a 100 years - WHAT IS EVERYONE WAITING FOR? It seems that, for "all those in psychiatry", it ... was not... worth the effort... Until now. 🌻🌻

Keep in mind that psychosis is present in both schizophrenia and some with bipolar 1. There actually is a lot of overlap of symptoms
@kevk741
@kevk741 5 сағат бұрын
You have to get neuropsychiatric symptoms like chronic akathisia to understand the overlap. I know lots of people using diets like carnivore & keto to help lessen symptoms. They also use fasting. My belief is these are all versions of dopamine regulation issues. Some are down regulated on top of being deregulated. You can get so injured, especially by medications, that you become intolerant to nearly all pharmaceuticals. That’s why most of my friends with chronic akathisia have turned to keto & carnivore.

@@kevk741hi Kev Have you had many friends with good results? I’ve gone carnivore for the second time (3 months the first time and no change but still tapering an ap-last drug of many) with chronic and acute akathisia amongst a plethora of other symptoms Jordan Peterson was in lion and even that didn’t protect nor heal him. So f’en desperate, been years

I believe the underpinnings are that these and many other conditions including atherosclerosis, prostate issues, depression, arthritis, even autoimmune conditions are all inflammation/insulin resistance/metabolic, and that keto can reduce this

Thank you. I am considering a keto diet for my bipolar disorder. My concern (and my doctor's concern) is how the diet affects lithium levels. I assume the goal is to get off lithium, so how is that transition handled?

These guys have many videos on YT. Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Eric Westman, Dr. Exkberg. Watch a few of these and many others will come as mentioned. Also Dr. Jason Fung has written a book called "The Obesity Code." It covers the nuts and bolts of the hormonal theory of obesity but at a laypersons level. I'm an n=1 and getting into ketosis changed my life for the better.

I think getting thoroughly checked for parasites is the answer. Keto seems to work because it starves the parasites of sugar but it is detrimental to the body long term.
@kassi4837
@kassi4837 13 сағат бұрын
Yeah I think it would be a genetic anomaly for it not to be hard on the body long term. I think addressing metabolic issues are important but that we need new ways to get the same results in case not everyone tolerates this long term .

@@kassi4837there is an adaptive phase, at the beginning stress hormones increase and even the blood vessels lose some of their elasticity, but as time goes on the body returns to normal. If you do a search for "keto diets affects on blood vessels" and "keto diet affect on stress hormones."

Studies conclude that there are no necessary carbs required by the human body, there are necessary fats and proteins but no carbs. The human liver actually produces carbs as needed from protein and fats so they are not required to be consumed.

I have a theory. Since most of this keto diet and other diets come from the US, a place where people eat so much processed food and other crap. When these people decide to start eating proper food, when they start cooking their own food, they start feeling better. They feel better not because of the keto diet, they feel better because they stopped eating all the crap. I bet they would feel better being vegetarian too, as long as they are eating whole foods.

@cmmv1992

You are certainly right about improvements by just removing junk food, because it will improve in some way the metabolism, but the ketogenic diet is not simply eating cleaner, it changes the main source of energy to fat, by doing this, insulin resistance stops being an issue to successfully get energy to the cells (brain cells in this case). You can pick a book called Brain Energy by Christopher Palmer and get a better understanding of this, his simplified explanation is that Mental disorders are metabolic disorders that affects the brain. Worth the read.

I don't think a keto diet would help mental health, I think a diet with a balanced mix of fat, protein, and carbs, combined with light exercise like going for a walk now and then, can improve mental health. The keto diet works by getting the body to burn fat instead of carbs, and that just never seemed natural to me. Just avoid excess sugars and fake sugars, eat carbs like grains and fruit/veggies.
