Honestly, even if Roost allowed you to keep the Flying typing so you're still vulnerable to Ice and Rock, there just aren't enough powerful answers to a Gen 3 mon with Roost. In an era without Stone Edge or physical Ice Punch, Flying is just too good defensively.

Tested it out in a tournament. We were at a point where even the finalists made a gentleman agreement to play with the other changes of the tour, but ban Roost for their BO5, as Zapdos/Skarm/Salamence would have been in every teams.

​@@merouln700 We put changes by weeks. W1 was Rotom-Wash and Abomasnow (with Snow Warning). Rotom was really interesting, offering a lot of new CORE's possibilities, and Abo had a very interesting coverage to deal with the metagame. W2 : Bullet Punch, Heatran, Roserade and Vikavolt. Heatran was of course very good, Rose was a nice Spiker with Sleep, and Vikavolt was actually crazy good, dealt 43% to Lax with Modest Magnet, while threatening Celebi with Bug moves. W3 : Krookodile, Avalugg with (with Body Press) and the Resist Berries. Berries were cool, the rest was whatever. W4 : Empoleon, Hippowdon, Bronzong, Choice Scarf. All of those were not regarded highly, but provided another sand setter, as well as some solid Steel options. Scarf was added to spice things up, as we got closer to POs. W5 : Magic Guard, U-turn, Technician. Basically, Zam/Clef, and Zor update. Also helped Mon like Flygon, which then actually ran Scarf sets. Rachi, Bi, Dos and Tres liked it too. W6 : Rhyperior, Greninja, Shed Shell. Rhyperior kinda cool, Gren had nice options, and Shell was very specific, mostly Heracross or Tran. Skarm wants its Lefties. POs : Diggersby, Hydreigon, Roost. Broken shit, just thrown a bunch of things to test, we all didn't like it, but played one or two games with Dig and Drei, no Roost tho. Looking back, while I'm doing another edition soon, I won't add back Technician/Turn/Scarf/Roost this time around, as they center the metagame too much, or denature it in a nasty way imo.

I’ve got some healing move ideas: -Cauterize: Heals the target based on their Fire vulnerability. A Fire-type status move that also cures freeze. A Pokémon like Abomasnow or Scizor who’s doubly weak to Fire is healed to full HP, a Pokémon like Snorlax who takes neutral from Fire is healed by a quarter of max health, and so forth. -Electro Drain: Xurkitree’s signature move. An Electric-type status move that heals the user by the target’s Sp. Atk stat, and lowers the target’s Sp. Atk by 1 afterwards. Think special Strength Sap. -Healing Crystals: A Rock-type status move that heals the active Pokémon of the user’s team by 1/16 of their max HP at the end of every turn, for 5 turns.

I'd be interested in seeing how Blissey would play if it got Final Gambit. It'd effectively be an 0HKO move once per battle making Blissey a pretty great wallbreaker but Blissey gets so much value from sitting on the battle field surviving the battle and statusing so I wonder if it'd even run it.

Roost makes the user lose it's Flying typing for the turn, so would it not become vulnerable to Spikes afterwards? I guess the more relevant question is: do spikes only activate the turn a Pokémon switches in, or do they activate the first turn a new Pokémon makes contact with the ground? I've actually never thought about this before so I don't know the answer, especially not in a Gen 3 context.

they only work when a pokemon switches in. at least that’s how it works in current gens. i don’t see why the same thing wouldn’t apply here. like from a coding standpoint (i don’t know much so maybe i’m wrong) i assume spikes checks for ground immune on switch, if not then it applies damage.

If you're losing to stall, pack Belly Drum Marowak/+ Hariyama with agility Zapdos. Fucks em everytime. Their mons are often only as fast as a Milotic which is 198 speed. That's the same speed you need to outspeed the meta with an agility. Yama and Wak can both get to 199 speed to outrun Milo and outspeed the meta. Blissey is a common switch in to Zapdos, so you just agility when you have advantage. BP to Yama on the Ice Beam / Seismic Toss/ Toxic, Wak on the Twave read. They'll run to preserve their Bliss or hit Yama for not enough damage to kill after a Drum. Win game, no hazards needed.
