Dad was in Kirkcaldy Black Watch RE WW11. His Platoon was at Dunkirk . I wish I knew more. All I know is on arrival from boat to shore, he was sat on a Sergeant's shoulders carrying rifles. I can't imagine what that must've been like, felt like, under constant fire, seeing so many of your fellow Regiment and others, shot, bombed, killed, badly maimed. Dad's Regiment also helped build the Bailey Bridge? Love n miss you Dad. Thank you and all the other brave Black Watch heroes who gave and still, give their all, for the freedom of the People of Scotland, the United Kingdom and The Wider World. 🌌🌎🏴💜🙏

Not one person, in the crowd, here on KZbin or anywhere else has any real idea what these soldiers have seen, experienced or have to deal with for the rest of their lives. My Father was a Sergeant in the 1st Battalion, Black Watch, during World War II, his Brither, James was a Sergeant in the 5th Battalion Black Watch. He was wounded and captured at Caën and spent the rest of the war in German POW Camps. My Father escorted War Criminals to NÜRNBERG for trial. Just shortly before he died he saw quote "Aw the boys" waiting for him. Love, Peace and Light.

The referendum is just that, it honours the men of the Black Watch and all fighting men in the Scottish regiments, that their suffering was not for nothing. Al bagu Bra

"watch is where the soldiers principally raised from Angus (Dundee) , Perth and Fife "watched" over the Highlands" Mind thise places are where the regiment was principally raised in later times but originally it was raised in the Highlands itself. Mostly from the clans Campbell, Grant, Fraser and Munro. A good history is given in The Independent Highland Companies by Peter simpson.

I viewed a video of the Black Watch homecoming about 6 weeks ago and was surprised and disappointed by the vitriol generated. As a Scotsman, I take quiet pride in the achievements of our armed forces, remember these young folk give up many of their freedoms to defend our right to ours. Perhaps these simple tributes uploaded by enthusiasts, are not the venues for vehement attacks on our servicemen. Could you find it in yourselves to desist? Scotland the Brave!
