It was kind and sensitive of you to add the part about emotional health and that how our skin appears can affect our happiness. As a child I would go to bed and pray that my skin would be clear by morning . It cleared but not until I was past 50 years old! I had tried everything and throughout those years I had at least 6 courses of Accutane. Finally I became gluten free , and also my hormones decided to bring me out of puberty and into menopause and .... ta da - clear skin. I wish I was gentler on my skin and did not try harsh evasive and scaring “ remedies”. This is why you are so good for to offer honest sensible approach to healthier skin and emotional well being.

Hi Dr. Dray. I learn so much from you each week. Today I learned that I am really doing the best I can for my skin. I had thought about light therapy and facials to help with my mature skin. Your videos are so much about taking a conservative approach to skin care and common sense. There is so much talk on you tube suggesting that we need this or that to preserve our skin from aging. I think that quite often we could possibly be doing harm by listening to non professionals. Can't wait for next week.

I have the same problemmmmmmm. Most of the blackhead targeting face washes and whatnot are way too drying/irritating to be used on my poor, red, dry skin :( What has seemed to be working for me is First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads (I use them every other day instead of daily) followed by the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. IT Cosmetics Makeup Removing Balm actually cleanses enough of the oil from my face while removing my makeup that I don’t follow that up with any kind of cleanser. If I did I think I would get way too dry. I use the Hydrating IT Cosmetics “Your Skin But Better” CC Cream as my foundation on days I want to cover the redness and it seems to actually be helping my redness over time. It has SPF 50 and it doesn’t oxidize or smell like sunscreen at all. All these things combined have actually loosened my blackheads up to where they can be extracted with a blackhead tool (before no matter what they would never come out), so I think it’s helping to clear them up slowly. I don’t know whether or not extracting is counterproductive so I don’t typically bother with it, I just pointed that out to show that they do seem to be “dissolving” in a way. I’m also decently convinced my current routine is preventing new blackheads from forming which is nice.

Pharmaceutical grade products are strictly regulated and must have many clinical trials, tests and proven results to be named such. The financial piece that goes into such research and testing is enormous. OTC products are not regulated. They can claim anything they want on their label as long as one ingredient in the formula claims to assist symptoms/instances at some level. Do your own research. Dr Dray has some great advice, but I cannot agree with this one. From a “Face Washer.”

Hello,Dr.Dray! Thank you for the informative video! I was wondering if you could make a video about what to look for in hair care products and what to avoid/gimmicks. I know you are very minimalistic when it comes to hair care, but I'd like to know what ingredients are actually 'efficacious' (in conditioners for example). Thank you!:)

Hi Dr. Dray, I was one of those curious ladies, and purchased the charcoal blackheads nose strips. What a mistake, my nose got so red & irritated. Never again. Unfortunately, there's some you tube DIY videos out there using PVA glue & activated charcoal to make the nose strips. Yikes! No thanks, I'll pass. Love your channel. You give very informative skin care advice. Keep the videos coming.

Sooooooo helpful, like always! I'm as confused as my chin. I'm breaking out and have blackheads. All this is new to me. At 60, I had hoped I would be done with this phase. Yes, it could be hormonal but I think, in this case, it's from products (specifically, cleansers). In any case, what do you do if, in the same little area, you need BP and a BHA to solve different problems? Use them both at the same time? Alternate days? Cry? Having dry, sensitive skin (or so I thought) makes any solution tricky. I can barely tolerate 2.5% BP....What's a girl to do?

I'm curious, so are estheticians worthless? That's what I'm getting out of this

No we do more than just wash your face. We also apply chemical peels, and microdermabrasions, Hydrafacials, lasers etc.. How dare she lol

That's what I heard too. I wish I had known before I spent thousands of dollars on education and licensing 😣

I think a certified and trained esthetician is great. But I know many here in my town offer facials and everything and they are absolutely not certified and trained

My doc told me the number one cause of adult acne and blackheads is dirty sheets and pillow cases. Since im lazy, i switched to white sheets so im forced to wash them at least weekly or they look really gross. White has a way of showing you what comes off your body while you sleep, ewwwww (i swear i shower every night). Started making sure i keep on top of it and it cleared my face right up.

hi! love your dry humored educated videos! I just put on my glasses and saw 10 blackheads on my face. I dont have the funds to buy many of the aha etc that youve mentioned. I have dry to normal skin. my pores arent big but get clogged, the rest of my skin is normal to dry im in my late 40s,. COuld I use Clean and Clear to wash , as Benzoyl has worked in the past on cystic pimples... and the Aveeno gel moisturizer you mentioned in the other video? I just want a simple routine. Thanks for sharing!

I use sunscreen everyday but why do I hear many people say we need sun exposure for Vitamin D, and they believe wearing sunscreen will hinder their vitamin D intake

Hi Andrea, this video is very complete and informative, I liked a lot you´ve talked about the emotional impact of this type of presentation of acne, especially for teenagers, they are very fragile, and their image is very important for them. I have oily skin on the center of my face with black comedoes on my nose and white comedoes on my chin and retinoic acid has improved my face a lot. Congratulations.

What moisturiser do you recommend for oily acne prone blackhead skin?? I use neostrata ultra smoothing cream & 2% salycilic acid and glycolic acid pads etc

I use Evan Healy red clay from Whole Foods or Pharmaca and it is mild and reduces redness while gently absorbing oil. I tend to apply with a brush. It doesn’t strip the oils excessively and keeps my hormonal skin less greasy.

TLDW: Don't try to do anything you heard would help, it doesn't work. you can try a cream called zapzit, it's effective but moisturize afterwards. OTC cream Differin is also effective treatment.
