The right things: 1. Salascilic acid (face wash, cream or strips) followed with moisturizer 2. Prescription retinoids like Tazorac and Differin 3. Sunscreen!🧴

Well said. I agree. Love Dr. Dray. I txt my mom sometimes after watching Dr. Dray and tell her about what to use on her face... she’s now using cerave pm and also will be using this cerave night cream with peptide soon. And I’ve been using cerave pm too. And since I’ve been watching Dr. Dray, I’ve lost my VIB status at Sephora because I haven’t wasted money there for a while now. Thanks Dr. Dray!

It was kind and sensitive of you to add the part about emotional health and that how our skin appears can affect our happiness. As a child I would go to bed and pray that my skin would be clear by morning . It cleared but not until I was past 50 years old! I had tried everything and throughout those years I had at least 6 courses of Accutane. Finally I became gluten free , and also my hormones decided to bring me out of puberty and into menopause and .... ta da - clear skin. I wish I was gentler on my skin and did not try harsh evasive and scaring “ remedies”. This is why you are so good for to offer honest sensible approach to healthier skin and emotional well being.

Hahah I myself have battled acne since I was 13. I remember I had fever once & and I prayed to God that I’d wake up with clear skin the next day. I’m 21 now. My skin is so much better. It’s sensible not to interfere with the skin too much in our teenage years. I have tried a lot of things but I think time will make it better since oil production ceases.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! You are one of the most honest and humble youtube doctors I’ve seen. I can tell that skincare is your passion and even after a long day at work you are also working hard at educating the public. I love that you don’t push any Uber expensive brands and make it known that you don’t have to break the bank to take care of your skin. I’ve started to realize that all the youtubers/celebrity dermatologist that do review these expensive products are trying to sell them to the public when in reality they look as good as they do due to other cosmetic procedures and fillers. As a 22 year old, no one has ever emphasized sunscreen as much as you and that is a tip I will always follow thanks to you. Love love love your channel! Thank you!!!

Hi Dr. Dray. I learn so much from you each week. Today I learned that I am really doing the best I can for my skin. I had thought about light therapy and facials to help with my mature skin. Your videos are so much about taking a conservative approach to skin care and common sense. There is so much talk on you tube suggesting that we need this or that to preserve our skin from aging. I think that quite often we could possibly be doing harm by listening to non professionals. Can't wait for next week.

I have the same problemmmmmmm. Most of the blackhead targeting face washes and whatnot are way too drying/irritating to be used on my poor, red, dry skin :( What has seemed to be working for me is First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads (I use them every other day instead of daily) followed by the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. IT Cosmetics Makeup Removing Balm actually cleanses enough of the oil from my face while removing my makeup that I don’t follow that up with any kind of cleanser. If I did I think I would get way too dry. I use the Hydrating IT Cosmetics “Your Skin But Better” CC Cream as my foundation on days I want to cover the redness and it seems to actually be helping my redness over time. It has SPF 50 and it doesn’t oxidize or smell like sunscreen at all. All these things combined have actually loosened my blackheads up to where they can be extracted with a blackhead tool (before no matter what they would never come out), so I think it’s helping to clear them up slowly. I don’t know whether or not extracting is counterproductive so I don’t typically bother with it, I just pointed that out to show that they do seem to be “dissolving” in a way. I’m also decently convinced my current routine is preventing new blackheads from forming which is nice.

I’m an esthetician and I have to disagree about the facials, they are beneficial, and informative for people learning about their skin, what to use, their skin type, etc. I work with organic products, and know skin conditions and contraindications just like dermatologists do I’ve never irritated anyone’s skins. I’ve had several clients with massive improvement since coming to me. 🙂 I love your channel, you are super informative. Love hearing stuff from different perspectives.

Pharmaceutical grade products are strictly regulated and must have many clinical trials, tests and proven results to be named such. The financial piece that goes into such research and testing is enormous. OTC products are not regulated. They can claim anything they want on their label as long as one ingredient in the formula claims to assist symptoms/instances at some level. Do your own research. Dr Dray has some great advice, but I cannot agree with this one. From a “Face Washer.”

It's sort of freeing to know that aztec clay mask doesn't do a whole lot hahah. I've had that under my sink for YEARS purely because I thought it might suddenly be the holy grail for my skin. I can finally part with it hahah.

I used the bentonite ACV mask under my arms and it helped transition to natural deodorant without nasty BO. It’s amazing. And bentonite clay also draws the sting out of bee and other bug stings. Keep it around!

This helps. I have seen/heard of facials but am concerned about them. With a teenager in the house, we go through a whole bunch of products and theories and it starts to get very confusing. Especially when you see the acne/cystic acne and you feel you need to do something. But then nothing seems to really work. More scrubbing, less scrubbing, this ingredient, that ingredient, it's head spinning.

Great video... once again!! Thank you ❤️ Please could you do a talk on dermaplaning/ shaving the face. I would love to hear an educated video about it. Ive only ever watched “beauty gurus” talk about it and dont know how much of it is actually backed up by real knowledge.

I am addicted to you Dr. Dray since I have discovered you recently. What is extremely demoralizing to me is that many of the products mentioned are not available where I live... I do not have access to any of the Cerave products. Do you think it would be possible to focus on other brands as well?

I actually use apple cider vinegar on my face as a toner and it has not only reduced my acne (I suffered from hormonal acne) - it has helped reduce redness and makes my skin feel soft. Also made my dark marks/hyperpigmentation to go away quickly.

I am a Licensed Esthetician and we do more than just wash people faces. We transform people skin just like a doctor can. We just cannot prescribe meds like Accutane and use deep peels unless were under a doctor. But we are able to use the same skin care lines, lasers, light therpy, Hydrafacials, chemical peels, microdermabrasions, etc..

There are some similarities on the surface. However. You don't have a medical training so no, you don't have the same capacity and knowledge in science when compared to a licensed, specialized doctor. You can be very clever and good at your job, but these are the facts. You're not the same (and that's ok).

Hey Dr Dray! I’ve been using differin for about 3-4 months and I’ve seen a huge improvement in preventing breakouts around the chin area. I have not seen a difference at all in blackheads. I suppose I’ll start with Zapzyt. Thanks!

Hello,Dr.Dray! Thank you for the informative video! I was wondering if you could make a video about what to look for in hair care products and what to avoid/gimmicks. I know you are very minimalistic when it comes to hair care, but I'd like to know what ingredients are actually 'efficacious' (in conditioners for example). Thank you!:)

Hi Dr. Dray, I was one of those curious ladies, and purchased the charcoal blackheads nose strips. What a mistake, my nose got so red & irritated. Never again. Unfortunately, there's some you tube DIY videos out there using PVA glue & activated charcoal to make the nose strips. Yikes! No thanks, I'll pass. Love your channel. You give very informative skin care advice. Keep the videos coming.

Sooooooo helpful, like always! I'm as confused as my chin. I'm breaking out and have blackheads. All this is new to me. At 60, I had hoped I would be done with this phase. Yes, it could be hormonal but I think, in this case, it's from products (specifically, cleansers). In any case, what do you do if, in the same little area, you need BP and a BHA to solve different problems? Use them both at the same time? Alternate days? Cry? Having dry, sensitive skin (or so I thought) makes any solution tricky. I can barely tolerate 2.5% BP....What's a girl to do?

My doc told me the number one cause of adult acne and blackheads is dirty sheets and pillow cases. Since im lazy, i switched to white sheets so im forced to wash them at least weekly or they look really gross. White has a way of showing you what comes off your body while you sleep, ewwwww (i swear i shower every night). Started making sure i keep on top of it and it cleared my face right up.

hi! love your dry humored educated videos! I just put on my glasses and saw 10 blackheads on my face. I dont have the funds to buy many of the aha etc that youve mentioned. I have dry to normal skin. my pores arent big but get clogged, the rest of my skin is normal to dry im in my late 40s,. COuld I use Clean and Clear to wash , as Benzoyl has worked in the past on cystic pimples... and the Aveeno gel moisturizer you mentioned in the other video? I just want a simple routine. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Andrea, this video is very complete and informative, I liked a lot you´ve talked about the emotional impact of this type of presentation of acne, especially for teenagers, they are very fragile, and their image is very important for them. I have oily skin on the center of my face with black comedoes on my nose and white comedoes on my chin and retinoic acid has improved my face a lot. Congratulations.

I use Evan Healy red clay from Whole Foods or Pharmaca and it is mild and reduces redness while gently absorbing oil. I tend to apply with a brush. It doesn’t strip the oils excessively and keeps my hormonal skin less greasy.
